I like the siding color contrast. It gives it character. It also contrasts with the smaller back house that's already in place. You are doing an amazing job building this yourself.

Tim, when you're paying what you are paying, I can see it must be a fair sum, you have one job, get exactly 💯 what you want. At this level of cost, there are remarkably few happy accidents. This scale of building needs a general contractor who reports directly to you.

WOW, such a massive job for 1 guy and a helper! So much I love about this structure; all the windows providing light and view from every interior angle, the red tin roof with the red doors are awesome, the copper flashing is very cool and I really like the darker battons(?)! Gives the finished look, just a bit more character. Going to be a VERY unique and striking mountain home!! I know it is a duplex, which is great for extra income, but if you ever have a growing family, the structure would be GREAT as a single family home, too! Masterpiece!

Looks super cool. Even though you had the guy help you a lot when this is done you can say, “I built this”.! Longtime follower here. Slightly negative here, but constructive curiosity: Are your neighbors pissed you blocked their view? Lastly, heed your Dad’s back problems. You are just like me, just get it done. Nobody to help unload the siding, no prob, just knock it out. However, you might end up like your Dad and I, a back surgeons dream. My back failed me at 59 and was life changing. Have to delegate all work to staff that entails heavy lifting. You have an issue already as I remember. Just be careful man, I regret all the things I did when I was younger, like: that job where the foreman would have me dig a hole and later say its in the wrong spot “fill it in”. Or all the other times I was like “awww, I’m fine, ill just do it myself”…. Anyway, much love from San Francisco.

Yikes! T-111 is $45+ a sheet here in the lower 48 . . . can only imagine what they're getting for that gold up there! :) My new favorite "siding" is 1/2" OSB with 1x2 battens screwed on (3/16" pre-drilled holes with coated deck screws) where the studs are. :)

I am a retired graphic designer from The Boeing Company and I have to say.....you gotta know your stuff at a company like that!!! No brag, just fact. I feel the darker battens give the contemporary "tower fortress/castlesque structure an homage to "English Tudor"....seriously. it also relieves the significant block of same-o-same-o color with the two buildings being quite a block of color. So, fari love everything about it. I believe there's enough "red" in the siding color to allow the doors to be red (can't be certain because I haven't seen them sise-by-side.) Sure want the door color to pull from the siding color. I think you pull our legs....there's more to you than you let on.

I am continually shocked and in awe of all the work that you two are able to accomplish in such a short amount of time. Ok, I am going to give you my opinion of how the two different colors look on the side of the house, I do not mean this in a derogatory way. BUT, I AM REALLY DATING MYSELF! Seeing all the scaffolding there with the siding and brown wood strips on the siding, I immediately thought of Elvis when he did Jailhouse Rock! LOL! I love what you have done. It is exactly like your personality, adventuresome, brave, a little quirky, loves to have fun, and it suits all the different things in your life that brings you happiness. I LOVE WHAT YOU HAVE DONE AND CONTINUE TO DO!!! I hate "cookie cutter" homes with NO PERSONALITY! Homes should be unique, just like every individual is unique and a master in their own talents, so should the home. Don't let anyone tell you any differently either! (I don't think anyone would have a negative thing to say about your home). I could use a shoulder and back massage after watching you two do all that work. I am so glad that you do take time out for yourself and give your back a break. Stay happy, keep warm, and keep accomplishing your dreams!

The battens match because it looks like prison cells otherwise. Board and batten works because it plays on the subtle changes that occur daily with shadow. As sunlight hits the facade, it creates definition in the area that sunlight and shadow meet.
