I like the idea of having a player controlled colonial nation. It takes some of the stress off of playing EU4 multiplayer by letting you play as a subject, but as a subject that can actually do some pretty significant things to help your overlord, who is more experienced and able to teach you as you go (or rather, you learn by watching him).

Did you promise to subsidize more money than the colonies would’ve made from trade? Is it because Dutch ideas give insane trade bonuses that you were able to do this?

You make way more due to diverting trade bonuses, each node the trade money goes through, the more money that’s added. you can do this with any nation in eu4 . And I subsidized my colonies more than they would have made in trade. I funded my colonies so hard they built up entirely in less than 70 years. Also I had burgundy ideas not Dutch ideas
