"The all new GR86 is another hit to come out of Toyota following on from the Yaris GR." No. It's GR Yaris, not the other way around. And you know it. And I know that you know it. And you know that I know that you know it...
Crazy how quick you need to react when you're shredding the ring... one mistake and you can end up having the worst day of your life. Great reaction and control especially considering the amount of different cars you lap. Props brother, stay safe!
Not sure if you read these Misha but I figured I'd link a classic for you and the audience! After watching this it really made me appreciate how much effort has gone into refining the track. Long live the ring! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jkQmXueWIio.html
I was the passenger on the second lap that Misha sadly didnt manage to film and also didnt want to do in the first place cause of the car getting to hot. I never drove fast vehicle and cant compare it to other cars but this little car is insane. Even though it doesnt have a huge amount of power it was insane how it just goes around corners. I filmed like 4 minutes of the second lap. If you like to, and Misha approves, i can upload it for you. Edit: Uploading it to my channel now
100% agreed on the verdict. Handling looks GREAT, judgding from the video some of the best I've seen - neutral, supple, stable, but still light / dynamic. You mentioned camber, but that would probably come at cost of streetability / straight line behavior. So out of the box it's probably the best balance for everyone. Brake upgrade (pads, fluid) for hard track use ofc. ESC really only did seem to kick in when needed.. I also noticed a slight regulation at 11:41. One mod that can never hurt, but doesn't have great price to value, is a switch to a LiPo battery. Less weight never ever hurts. It's ~500€ for on average ~15 kg weight saving.
indeed good to see the heel and toe in action.. clearly globs of fun this car, and a marvelous accomplishment (especially given the price point), it's tricky to drive fast that is clear also. would be great to hear some comparisons to other cars in this class when you debrief at the end. great video thanks Misha!
Ok that actually got my heart racing a little bit, awesome lap! After owning my GR86 for a year now and many track days, I agree this car is amazing. I am only just now starting some mild upgrades, been driving it almost stock for the past year (except for pads, fluids).
Most of the times when the brake travel becomes bigger it's brake fluid related. Pad overheat is usually detected when the pedal has to be pushed hard but the observed braking force is low
The ND drives much better around turns, definitely more sporty. The GR is good at being a daily too while still being fun, the Miata just felt more natural around turns
@@zevi2000 with how much body roll an nd Miata has, I’ll have to disagree. The gr86 is a more serious sports car. As evident with the better track times posted by the 86 compared to the Miata
@@ak740_ the GR has approximately 50 more horsepower, and is a foot longer. Between the added stability and the extra power it’s pretty obvious it’s gonna have a faster lap time
well saved: quote from gr-zoo VSC (Vehicle Stability Control) TRC (Traction Control) Brake LSD function - Holding the right Track button for a second or so enters Track mode. Traction control remains on but VSC is relaxed somewhat. - PRESS the left traction control button - disables traction control temporarily until you get to about 25mph or something (if you get stuck in snow or whatnot). - HOLD the left traction control button to disable traction control fully and also enter track mode....not sure if this also completely disables VSC or just relaxes it.
After driving the ND Miata with suspension mods and your GR86 you should do a comparison video. Times are great to compare but how the car feels is important as well.
Looks like a blast to drive! Also suprised by how the ASC sounds, it doesnt sound too bad for being fake engine noise. Wonder what you'll do in terms of exhaust upgrades and what the effects are🧐
@@egorlike1324 Same. It's pretty awful. It sounds like a blender lol. I turned it off, and the improvement was immediately noticeable. Installing and MRT Sport Touring Axleback brought the overall interior noise level back to where it was with the ASC enabled, but with real noise. Highly recommend that option for the price, but there are lots of good options. The HKS single exit catbacks seem pretty awesome too.
@@hatteras33 ah i see, might also be because it's a video that it's bearable. Never experienced real life. True engine sound will always be better though
Nice lap. Thx. Would be nice to hear about the stock power of the GR at the beginning -as we're used to in your videos. I don’t know such tings by myself.. “Tuning” of the car may concern firstly to deactivate this tedious hazard-lighting when braking hard.
Love your driving, also noticed based on the cars telemetry that you are either braking or accelerating, little to no coasting, benefits of left foot braking 😊
Some drivers are equally fast without it. Depends on the driver's preferences so many of pro drivers prefer to use left foot braking of course. Probably better for maximizing record lap times but shouldn't be too much difference between both. Well, depends on the demands of track too
I could smell the brakepads. Last time i was at nurburgring i had new discs and brakes they ware on fire after one spirited lap. Brakes are a must upgrade for any 86/brz that is beiing tracked
gr86 is a blast in your hands or any pro driver in general. to be honest, I havent seen the list of mods, that you are going to put on the car, but if that 6th gear is a bit of a problem, there are some aftermarket final drive options to shorten the ratio. I know you might know this already but I just commented anyways :))
Amazing footwork! I like drifting & racing but manual car racing just seems scary to me specially that I drive with left foot braking! But after watching you, I might rethink my choices haha!
great video, very nice to see you "breaking in " the car, cant wait to see it evolve! i'd start with the brakes, because you complained about them around the halfway point of the lap.
I think that GR86 just got a good taste of what you’re all about Misha. Round one goes to Misha. I’m not sure but I think I heard it just say it likes how you drive when Megi is in the car. “Brakes brakes, can we get some brakes please?”
Obviously brakes, suspension, ect are the usual must fixes, but compared to the GT86 is the absolutely massive torque dip gone? I remember having to do so many modifications to get rid of the torque dip on top of solving suspension issues for my friends cars.
I heard this one is pretty flat too, someone said in a video even the new MX-5's power delivery feels like a lot more exctiting. This is just one opinion tho, and I don't know the truth.
Thanks for GT86, GR86 traction info, sorry we cannot get GR86 here in the U.K. I see GR86 also still gets hot oil. Interesting to hear more about handling etc and after brake mods. Oh and that coolant must have been very unnerving.
When you drive so many aggressive laps, you are going to have these events, and you are probably going to crash on occasions... all the best crash because they push the limits. The problem of being as good as you are on the Nurburgring, is that you drive so quick, when situations like this arise, you just have to be lucky... and of course your skill helps as well to get you out of trouble. But really, your driving really only suits when all other drivers on the ring are also professional drivers. But please remember, you don't have to prove anything to anyone... your laps even if slightly slower and safer would still be as entertaining.
This corner entry was 20-30 kph slower than I usually do. Plenty of "oh shit moments" over the years, with plenty of saves, because there are always margins.
Id be curious for you to try a BRZ in comparison ! The Subaru has aluminum suspension knuckles and arms with a slightly different geometry . The most obvious would be the rear sway bar being attached to the chassis of the Subaru instead of the rear subframe on the GR86 ! So far amateur drivers that have tried both are reporting the GR86 being more and while the subaru seems to be more ! Nonetheless, very good video and amazing cars. We are so lucky that Toyota and Subaru are producing those affordable entry-level racers today !! What a platform !
I'm also curious to see how the esp is going to handle different wheels and different suspension. I'm not sure if my dacia dokker likes the different wheels and the shorter springs that i've put. Maybe it is because I'm trying to figure out the limit of the car. In fact, the esp slows the car down drastically. It is a true fun break. Sometimes, it is kicking really hard in which I find dangerous. Especially when I switch quickly from one turn to the other. Steering like you and correcting the line my dokker doesn't like that at all. I mean it is not a sports car which is clear.
Try to deactivate the ESP. On my car if i use it it kills the brakes. They are already overheated in Wehrseifen. With ESP of no problems with brakes at all.
Would love to drive one of those. I have the first year BRZ (2013) so almost the same car, and the first thing I did was update the brakes. Stock brakes can't handle a 15min session on track. And the TC is obnoxious lol, would be nice to see how much improved the newer ones are
1st time watching a full lap of really any track and I noticed cars who are about to get passed pulls to the side and slows down while flashing their hazards. I am assuming this is etiquette? Never been on a track or ran any auto X so I'm a bit curious
Ich liebe dieses Auto. Bin einmal Probegefahren.
can you get rid of brakefade on a light car with just a pad and disc upgrade? On my last track day i barely noticed any fade because I had better discs and pads at the front, but wondering how it would work on the ring.
Hi Misha! I was thinking about the camera filming the speedo, what if you place a camera on the sidewindow, or would that be in the way as well? I know that schmee does that sometimes
Mate I am going to buy one soon, can you please tell me any suggestions in terms of suspensions, brakes etc. I also wanted to use it for track days. What do you think about front and rear wing does it need more downforce, body kit and wheels radial 17-18-19” thanks in advance
cool seeing the foot pedals in this one didnt realize you used your left foot for the brake watching your driving has helped me get smoother in iracing haha
I would mount the gopro camera elsewhere to be honest. Maybe passenger seat and make to look to the dash to the left. And then in the edit zoom the picture in
how do you downshift and trailbrake at the same time? or do you first downshift and after that - trailbrake? How do you trailbrake during a short braking period? do you heel-toe and trail-brake at the same time?
"Mutkurve" has it's name for a reason already. That thing is scary even in all dry condotions! And now imagine comming around and suddenly having your wheels on a wet trail. 😳
Great video and lap! I might wanne buy a GT/GR 86 one day because the mx5 starting to feel a bit dated for me i would love something new. But with the pricing atm, so manny budget sports cars cost so much :(
Misha, the quality of your video is getting better and better. Very cool and fast lap. So immersive that it was scary in a couple of moments😅 Thank you for these feelings✌
Mischa you got to do a breakdown eventaully of only the G-meter in the front dash!!! would be neat to do a turn by turn breakdown between stock and modded of the cornering speeds and the Gs you encounter.... Dawaj
As for brakes, i reckon getting oem sti impreza brembo brakes will be the best budget brake upgrades... Easier to source and plenty of pad choices as well
Great vid as always Misha, and loved this one more as a '22 BRZ owner. Having tracked it stock @ Road Atlanta to get a sense of baseline was equally impressed with platform capabilities at 10/10's. The car is a poem at 8/10's mountain driving where it punches well above its weight. Agree oem brakes as well as 0w20 oil getting hotter than comfortable on track are achilles' heel... mb front camber as well as basically 0 camber in the front from factory. Can't wait to see how you go about modifying yours! tschüss :)
