You are lucky to have the silver-aluminum model...Unfortunately the black model is made out of plastic and feel really bad whenever you have to lift the laptop. Every single time I hear squeaky plastic and the whole thing feels like a chromebook. T480 is miles ahead in terms of build quality. T14 gen 5 in my eyes in not an upgrade, but rather lenovo's attempt to sell us a cheaper laptop only because of 2 RAM slots? Also, despite countless complaints on their forum and on reddit, they still soldered ports onto the motherboard and then bragged about repairability, lol.
aChair dropping a new vid knowing damn-well everyone in the discord-server are gonna find out solely through the Server's true owner reminding us to drink water (love your cinematography btw)
I absolutely love your content, its a shame about your subscribers. It's almost a ritual to me at this point. Your editing style to relaxing voice, its cozy and a vibe. Keep up the amazing work man!
i have lot of 2010s old thinkpad (all buy second handed) and they still rocking strong i have X220 (which used by my little brother rightnow) X260 and T440 (Dual Battery 24+72 wh for traveling mode) E430 (max upgrade dual gpu with quadcore CPU, 16 gb ram) for some editing with use handbrake n capcut my P50 for my main workstation (it can do almost everything smothly for rendering and video editing with Quadro m2000m and i7 6820QM) well, we miss that sturdy looking thinkpad in this generation become more slim in newer generation
What are you planning on doing when Win10 goes eol? I saw your Linux vid forever ago and you do have fair points but would you consider trying again in october 2025?
Most likely, I'll just suck it up and go to win11. There would be a higher chance of me going to MacOS rather than Linux if I really can't stand windows 11
i just got a t14g2, thankfully has all of the "legacy" things i care about with the kb, touchpad buttons and ports while being noticably fancier than a t480, and with a beefed up igpu
Please test a Thinkpad P1 gen 2 or 3 with an OLED screen. With a t2000 (1650 equivalent) it may be the best 450$ used laptop. Though you need to force the CPU at a lower than 45W power target to double the battery life from 4 to 8 hours.
Funny that you make a video on this, I feel like this laptop is cursed. The laptop CPUs that came out since this was released are so much better... Both HX 370 and Core Ultra Series 2. However, for both of those new chips RAM will not be replacable (in fact, on core Ultra Series 2 the memory is part of the chip), so T14 G6 will not be repairable again.
My T14 G1 (AMD) burns battery even when off (and in 'linux' sleep mode). I leave it off for a week and it's down to half. Lenovo's BIOS is clearly doing something when it should be off. Fully updated BIOS. Even leaving it overnight and you are down from 100 to 90%. Lenovo refuses to acknowledge the problem and always blames nonsensical reasons such as "drivers".
This model using Core Ultra 7 155U, and running Windows 10? I don't know did you just replaced the OS or what 😅. Well I did have Ideapad run Both Win11 and Win10 for difference use 😅
i wonder how it compares to framework, probably will be the closest 1:1 comparison it sucks that I'm trying to upgrade from my current daily driver and nothing in the market really satisfies me. Framework is probably the closest but they'll probably never do a lunarlake/strix refresh.
Still rocking my T-420 with an i7...I upgraded it to 1 2TB - 2.5" SSD, and 16GB of RAM...its running Fedora Linux and its kept up with my demands in regards to learning Python and Full Stack Web Development. I am in the market for upgrading it eventually....you say the T680 is good...I might have to check them out. Thanks for the info bro...
I've had about 5-6 ThinkPads and now an HP Elitebook, i just cannot get used to the FN key placement and yeah i know it can be changed from the BIOS but it still says FN on the key itself and always mess it up
My problem with Thinkpads is that they are too expensive in my country like for the same price I can get the thinkpad in this video with ultra 5 125U 16 ram and 512ssd or I can get HP Omen 16 with 13900HX and 4060 32gb of ram and even 1TB of storage like is it just too expensive here for it’s expensive everywhere else too ? I know HP Omen is probably nowhere close to being as reliable and longliving as a Thinkpad but does that really justify this price point ? What do they do to make this do expensive anyways
@@aChairLeg Yeah no I mean... one of them do mean something for *me* so... that's why I asked this question. I wondered if they were hand-picked by you or not because of that.
155U has a much weaker GPU than 155H. That's in contrast to AMD's 7840U which is more or less the same as the 7840HS. Also, the user-replaceable DDR5 is a decent chunk slower than its soldered counterpart, which, again, affects the GPU on these APU-based laptops.
Felt cheap, battery life was horrible, performance wasn't great. Maybe it was just me, but I really did not like that laptop at all. The T14 Gen 1 is significantly better IMO, but I've gotten somewhat picky with my laptops as I've started to use and rely on them more
You can upgrade the ram, unless the seller forgot to mention the BIOS is password locked and if you open the case itll brick itself. Because the seller also doesn't have the password.
Laptop landscape is a horrid mess for a lot of people right now. Windows(x86) laptops usually lack or suffer from one or more of the following: battery life, quality of screen, speakers, keyboard, touchpad, lack of high speed ports, poor chassis build, noise/thermals and repairability is often neglected just like Apple products. Apple otoh completely rips people off with ram and storage upgrades but their laptops are otherwise good quality and balanced machines with fewer major software issues like windows laptops suffer from such as high battery drain in sleep mode. Lenovo isn't helping the Thinkpad brand because for the price even Razer builds higher quality and performance laptops and that's telling something about your business model of not appealing to consumers at all.
You kids and your new fangled lipservicelaptops with what passes for repairability. The T440P is the last great ThinkPad. It is the definition of what Lenovo has lost and what it needs to return to.
the new thinkpads are worse build. we are using lenovo laptops for a long time now and they are getting worse and cheaper each time. they just break all the time you have to spend double the price to get a good product as it used to be in the past. and the cooling desing and fan courve is questionable
