few years ago got two x270 (i5 and i7), one spare for me, the other one (i7) for mom. works perfectly as a 2nd laptop. put nvme instead of the simcard modem, installed linux there. two batteries. all possible ports. charges via type-c. nice touchpad. touchpad buttons right under the keyboard are underrated - so convenient. runs all games from childhood: nfs u2, mw; gta sa, even minecraft is ok. ride bicycle with it in a backpack - literally don't care if i drop it. best second laptop so far.
Yes I got mine. Oh My. The amount of trouble is like. Should I stay with my Synology? I love the product. Not fast, i have lost 2 times the media as has erased twice the volume. 🤦🏽♂️i just add the Cache and improved a lot the speed of transfer. And yes I could bot find my NAS with my computer, but I went to the mobile, and yeap I got in. And see is there. I had a big remote session with them. But i am giving them a few weeks.
yes you should stay with your Synology tbh. Or build your own. There's too many red flags with how this NAS was advertised to people and I think if you want something turn key you're better off going with Synology or any other vendor. Or just getting your own. these things are dogshit lmao.
I switched fulltime to Fedora KDE about a 5 days ago. so still learning the robes but i have managed to use mostly compatible software and hardware so far. Main things i personally miss are apple music client with hifi options ( currently i run Cider and it works but only at 256kbit ) I had some issues with a steelseries headset where i couldnt get it working as i wanted.. ended up installing Virtual box making a windows 10 VM and handing over the headset so i could run the stupid steelseries engine and save the config to the headset. Outside of that Linux has been.. interesting.. some things are really nice while others are.. odd. Like HDR Gaming seems to work if you know how to but i can't get it working. it works on the desktop tho but not when you try and playback video it just gets dark and looks off.. ( KDE Plasma 6.0.5 for refrence )

If anyone still commenting here is curious about how the FX-8350 is doing in 2024 on a single game test basis, I have been recording test runs of many modern titles covering a few genres, and posting the videos. www.youtube.com/@TheOldGodFX/videos It's a mixed bag, but honestly it has less to do with the actual age of the FX, and more to do with just its design, and what developers are willing to do to optimize for its module cpu architecture. Even in proven game engines like UE 4 or UE 5, optimization for FX is not built into the engine, so you will having shining examples of games that run amazingly well on the FX-8350 because developers went the extra mile to make it work regardless, like Robocop Rouge City or Lies of P. And then other titles using the exact same engine that are doing poorly with cpu utilization barely past 60 percent on all cores, like Mechwarrior 5, Jedi Survivor, or Alone in the Dark. In general though, there are many modern titles that the eight core Vishera based processors can handle still.
i havent actually got it yet but i just picked up a gen 9 for 80 uk pounds with a single e5 2630v4 im planning on upgrading to dual 2697a v4 cpus the reason i went for it is because they are supposed to be able torun tesla p40's with a delta blower fan im working on projects that need as much ram and as much cpu and as much gpu vram i can throw at them im on benefits so cant afford all the nice toys people with expendable income get to play with but like you said someone with more tech knowledge and more demanding use cases such as trying to enter the ai machine learning deep learning web xr type projects im doing i think provided i can get a hypervisor like proxmox ve running with gpu passthru and the tesla hacked drivers im hoping this with a couple of p40s and maybe a frankstiened atx power supply to power the cards if i cant get the service pack firmware bios update to power the 1400 watt power supplys so they can power at least one tesla if not two i think for the average media server and gamer and youtuber its probably way more headache than needed but couple with this fact the specific use cases i have and the demands i have while i agree they are power hungry and overkill for 99% of the home user needs but couple with this a c7000 blade center with blades for 250 uk pounds this is the most raw power and promising way for me to attempt to enter the web xr ai ml an dl development and implementation arena so although i dont yet have my dl380 gen 9 i can assure anyone with intentions of doing anything heavy duty whilst struggling by on the basics to buy these tools that this device for me is the cheapest and best option for the avalable funds i have id say if you dont need it for specific use cases steer clear of rack and server hardware altogether but if you are trying to be the owner of your own development and projects with no use case t&c like you can do this you cant do that we support this but not that then on a budget if raw compute power is needed and money is severely tight like not having the money to build and replace shower gel before running out and eating one meal a day so as to plow as much money as you can into tech that little rich kids rubbish because they dont have an understanding as to why they actually need this kind of power if you want to try out this type of build buy a huananzhi f8d or f8d plus and build around the chipset but with newer components otherwise please do not buy these unless you have more money than you know what to do with have a genuine need for the raw compute power want to experiment with the cheapest possible way of possibly implementing some project with AI ML DL if it doesnt work the p40s will go in my future huananzhi f8d plus build which i cant afford cuz im constantly chassing as much raw power as i need so while a great video for entertainment its actually click bait really cuz all you are really saying is if looking for a general purpose home server stay away but if in need of raw compute power with the ability to own everything from code to hardware whilst scraping buy on disability benefits trying to get ahead with yesterdays ennterprise technology might be your best option i know its mine sure id love a top of the line thread ripper but for the price of one thread top of the line thread ripper i could get multiple compute nodes and if you are really lucky and determined and helped by nice people you might even get a blade center for 250 but you would have to convince the seller that your cause is more noble than their profiteering if this setup works for what im planning happy days difficulty doesnt matter so long as i can get up and running technical ability 28 years and counting and server knowledge absolutely zero but willing to feel my way through provided there is a glimmer of hope i may one day be able to buy something i have no knowledge of and then make videos saying its rubbish to the average joe yes its old rubbish to an old computer scientist on a shoe string budget it best bang for my buck
The 3700 with a current graphics card would certainly be faster than the 40 Core in rendering and co. Since most applications access GPU . It would be cheaper than 600! Been 😅

Acer nitro an515-52..... gtx 1050m 16 gb ram 250gb m.2 ssd 1tb hdd Even though can have a batter gaming laptop .... as a college student/gamer it'd kinda expansive and sometimes The only way to get a bit chipper Gaming laptop used , minty condition is on Facebook..... Yeah 😂
I really do have a bit of a soft spot for tinkering with old/budget hardware. (I haven't done much myself. Currently waiting for the delivery of a cheap ssd to pop into a Dell latitude 5500)
That 8120 might have seen better days or needed an undervolt with an AIO. 8xxx and 9xxx cpus need some love n tuning to shine. They're no masterpiece but still decent. My old 8350 build with just 4x8(32gb)@1333 +rx580 still can hit 3600 in r23 all day on stock clocks and is much more consistent/ case by case up a couple fps from your results with a lesser card. Also i feel a 256bit card like the rx5700xt or gtx1080ti would have made better use of the older pcie 2.0 bandwidth limits. Great vid tho 👌
It's still one of the camera I like the most though I sell it because I want to only keep EOS-1 series in my home after I get 1Ds Mark II which produced pretty much similar looking pictures but with EOS-1 control I like. However, it's already broken a few years ago and i don't know whether I can get a new copy of it with good enough condition.
The lid-latch was put on the frame because this Thinkpad laptop series has a built-in role cage. It is generally designed to be sturdy in case it is dropped or stepped on. The lid-latch ensures the screen is more likely to stay in a 'safe' position during falling or landing. (To my knowledge, nodern Thinkpads no longer include the role or drop cage.)
Older tech is cool. I got a Dell PowerEdge R620, 2xCPU, 144Gb RAM, 4 x 1.2TB SAS drives altogether around $410. I also got a Dell PowerEdge T410 for $50 then put 6 x 6TB SAS drives in it. I also found a Lenovo B490 laptop at my brother's office with no power supply. I happen to have an extra Lenovo X220 power supply and it worked. $29 for an SSD and got 16Gb RAM from old laptops and it's all good.
I love my 70d but it's value seems to be going down now with brands like TTArtisan producing super cheap high quality mirrorless lenses. You'll lose lots of money buying glass for your 70D nowadays.
Not me watching it in the exaxt same laptop... (btw I agree with everything except the keyboard. I personally LOVE trashy keyboards. Probably just me.) Also the fan problem, yk when it sounds like a plane is taking off, is probably the hugest issue for me all those years. I remember being younger and playing games secretly at midnight and my parents literally heard me BECAUSE OF THE FANS.
Did you ever made a comparison between Premiere and Davinci Resolve? Last time i edited in Premiere it was not good and Resolve did a much smoother job. Even without the use of proxies. So i think premiere could be your bottleneck and not your former Setup :D
