I didnt like the non linear format at all - it felt like a vanity project - it felt very scripted and full of cheesy “sound bites” - she seemed materialistic and self obsessed - I hated the format - her kids felt like props - I am actually a fan and from her hometown and first knew and loved her as a young French singer in Quebec - I feel for her but this felt like a HIGHLY controlled project and she came across as fake, over the top and insincere. Like she was acting. Like she was on stage. I don’t think she can separate herself. Also, I’ll say when she’s speaking casually in French it’s a lowbrow form of French - a little rough around the edges - bit I LOVE that bc it’s AUTHENTIC - but when interviewed in French she changes her dialect to sound more cultured. I wish she suis thé herself. A lifetime of perfection and highly controlled image onstage has overtaken her authentic self. Also in this day and age when so many are struggling to pay taxes, keep gas in car and food on table, the scenes of her shoes and warehouses of Dior wardrobes etc just seemed so fkn out of touch with her fans and the reality most ppl face today - stardom ruined her purity. Also, when she shops in Quebec City she has her people shit down entire stores ti the public so she can have total privacy and not be bothered by people including when shopping at toy stores for her kids - just another self centered self important celebrity. Ask the staff at benjo’s toy store in Quebec City if they shut it all down just for her. It’s sad she thinks her fans won’t still adore her despite her illness or not perfect voice. It would actually be more endearing. Idk / it feels like she’s playing on sympathy for attention now. I have severe autoimmune issues and I hide them from most ppl best I can - I don’t want sympathy or pity. Also it feels like she casually glosses over drug addiction. No doctor is prescribing anyone 90mg of Valium a day. I really wanted to like this bc I have such fond memories of her when she was staring out but it completely missed the mark in every way.

@faymfaym3137 Thank you for providing that background info on Celine. The film felt disingenuous, but without knowing her the way you do, I was just sensing something was off. I agree that she needs to drop the idea of being perfect and just sing if that's what she loves. I read that she is going to do some shows in Las Vegas soon, so we'll see....

How funny If you're not a fan of Celine you're going to get bored. 😮That is, where is the empathy and then it means that only when we like something or a musical preference does it lead to feeling bored by the pain and the legacy that an artist like her is leaving behind.

I suppose if you are entertained by serious and tragic stories, this would be interesting without having to be a fan of the artist. My point was that she dedicated the movie to her fans. They would be invested in her story more so than a viewer who had not followed her career through the years. I like Celine, and I was moved by the movie, but my close friend has followed her career closely and seen her perform live. She was very touched by this movie.

There’s a lot of people who don’t care for Céline Dion or her music saying that it was a really good documentary.
