There's too much stupid people, I don't care if it is a female protagonist as long as is done right, and knowing this devs, Sucker Punch, and how well they've done in recent years I feel pretty sure that won't be a problem. I expect the same quality as in Ghost of Tsushima if not more, I'm confident they will deliver. I played Ghost of Tsushima on PC, I don't think it has nothing to do with the platform, is just random stupid people with stupid complaints, I mean with only 1 trailer they can't judge anything, much less the quality of the writing or the protagonist.

I'm so freaking pumped for Yotei!!!!! imo so long as the story and characters are great I really don't care what gender or orientation the PC is. While I'm somewhat sad that Jin's story is over, I also agree that it's the right decision, it ended in a great place. Might like to see maybe one more DLC for Tsushima but overall Sucker Punch has absolutely nailed everything and I trust their judgement. I do agree that sometimes studios have a female or minority MC just for representation reasons and it seems a bit forced, but sucker punch has legitimately nailed every single game I can remember. I'm basing my hype off their previous works, and so far they've given absolutely no reason to doubt that it'll be in the running for GotY again

You know; the independent woman who don’t need no man and has no flaws whatsoever and is perfect in every way. @@shawnellesmith I'll say this. There are real concerns with how these games are portraying women and men for an agenda no one cares about our is inspired by. The strong female character role is played out when she is constantly a lesbian Or she is just perfect and doesn't need growth. It's bad writing because it doesn't reflect human reality, which is why they added women to their games as well as LGBTQ people in the game. However, just because a game has diversity or women, doesn't mean it's agenda based or DEI. I even think a game like assassin's Creed Shadows 10-12 years ago wouldn't be getting any flak because of how hypersensitive everyone is.

Thank you for expressing this issue. I’am a Ghosts of Tsushima player!! It’s crazy how people have these insane opinions about a woman protagonist. My first ever video I uploaded was a Ghost legend play through I got 1.4k views on that video. Woman, man, alien, green, blue, orange whatever This Game is fire!!! ❤❤❤❤❤. Thanks ehpic!!! I have never been addicted to game until now!!! People should just grow up!!! They are also deeply respectful of Japanese history and culture. I don't think they will jeopardize this good standing by flooding Yotei with western social agendas. I’m not saying that there aren’t 💩 head out there saying they aren’t going to play it bc it’s a female, bc I’ve seen them. That said, the bigger conversation I’m seeing are ppl that are just disappointed that this has turned out to be an Anthology series rather than a continuation. Most gamers have no issues playing as a female. There is a valid concern over the voice actress considering what we’ve seen over the years. For ppl to be using the whole “bc she’s a women” argument all bc ppl are disappointed that it’s not Jin. You know why you didn’t hear the backlash from those characters you mentioned? Bc Jin was a loved character that ppl thought they were going to make a series out of, and ppl were wrong. I will add that since Infamous, Sucker Punch has earned my trust. They have not disappointed yet, so there’s hope for this game.

To be fair, I have seen MANY hate comments simply talking about how she is a woman... NOTHING else. However, I totally understand the conversation of wanting a continuation of Jin's story... I truly do! He was an amazing character to say the least and I think it would have been great to have another round with him. But who knows, maybe SP knows this and will have some awesome nods to Jin or maybe even a DLC at some point allowing us to play him again. You never know! Like you said, they have not disappointed yet! Just sad to see the community write them off over a 3 minute trailer.

As long as the story is epic like the first one and the gameplay is as well, I dont mind. Only one that bummed me was AC Shadows because there were so many Japanese historical characters and the main character isn't Japanese. I love the Ghost of Tsushima/Legends community, best community I've veen a part of. On another note, I'll be so happy if get multiple main weapons to use like Katana, Dual Katana, Kusarigama, etc. That will be sick.

But I always found that one set protagonist/lead character makes for a more personable experience and better character development because they can put their efforts into that one character. Letting go of his honor and everything he believed in to save his home and his people. I want to see that chain weapon in the new game. Looks like it could be fun. And a musket? That's actually a very good point that you bring up Eve from Stellar Blade. That game was literally just released this year, and I heard NOBODY on the far right complain about that game having a female protagonist. But now, all of a sudden, they don't carry that same energy for Ghost of Yotei? That's just... confusing and wishy washy. Is it because the actress who played Eve isn't a Liberal activist like Atsu's actress, Erika Ishii? Because if so, then that still shouldn't matter, because at the end of the day, an actor has rarely any say, if at all, on what a game's story is or who their character is. As a company, Sucker Punch has full creative control, so what they say goes.

Love Laura Croft, Love Ellie, Love Chloe Frazer, Love Jill Valentine...and this could just be me but in terms of the history, women rarely fought let alone as samurai (if she is being presented that way) in pre-modern Japan. It's kinda the same problem with certain WW2 games having women be a playable soldier. Just kinda takes me personally more out of the suspension of disbelief, so its less about the actually disliking female protagonists. For me, it depends on how well the writing integrates those characters to their respective environments. Gameplay is going to be great no doubt, but I think it's more of a fatigue with just the general landscape film media and recent unrelated gaming titles have been being developed and advertised.

There was also no complaining in the first game with Tomoe? So other characters is fine, just the main one not? I personally dont think there is any reason to complain.

@@jealousy7883 Yes the main one not there's nothing wrong with women playing supporting roles especially in a samurai genre. Were the other's stories big enough for a whole game, or did they work better as supporting characters? Warrior women sure, but would a samurai story be centered around one? Not so sure. Some badass women work better as supporting characters that help the hero along the way that eventually get a small story that fleshes out their backstory. In many samurai movies, anime and manga this is the case. Same reason I like Masako and Yuna as a character. Just works better for me in this type of world-building. Tamoe was not as compelling as Ryuzo. Some stories fit into a genre, and the story doesn't quite work if the certain elements aren't met imo and that's okay, just depends on the writing and what kind of story they're telling, but I'm sure they'll probably be some great moments in the game.

@@moehasan7534 because it's very rare that a switcheroo works in having a better story or at least even a similar story. Sometimes it does happen in the case of Miles Morales but it's rare. I'll give a little example of why this is a red flag for story writing. Epic made a comment in the video saying it's 2024 and that is very true that the time that we are currently in is that 2024. The first game took place hundreds of years ago and the story writing reflected that time. This next game will also take place hundreds of years ago in the times will likely be written differently showing a lack of understanding of culture in the writing. I've noticed people using other characters as Laura Croft the tomb raider or Cassandra in assassin's Creed Odyssey. Laura Kraft uses guns and intelligence to overcome obstacles which works for the story. Cassandra is a demigod which worked for the story it made sense that she was powerful and can manhandle men. There's some people that don't want to be lied to and some people that just want to be engulfed in fantasy. This next ghost game may be great and I'm looking forward to finding out if it will or won't, but I understand it can be a good example is a Netflix show called Blue eye samurai. In this Netflix show centers around a little girl that basically grew up without a family and use resentment as a catalyst to her goal of overcoming wrongdoing. It works so well in that story. At first glance you may look at the show as a female pretending to be a man like a transgender but it is so not that. It's good writing and I hope that the second game gets good rating. So just to ensure clarity to the answer of your question of why is it disappointing when you don't know what the story is. It's disappointing seeing these red flags of bad writing.

The female side characters in Ghost of Tsushima were truly remarkable. They weren’t just the typical "strong woman" archetype that you see so often in the likes of Disney where strength is equated with being invulnerable and devoid of meaningful character development. Instead, these women were written with depth, flaws, and real growth, just like people in reality, or another way of saying that is using common sense... Ghost handled this with such nuance that if the lead in Ghost of Yotei happens to be a woman, there’s no doubt it will be done with the same care and respect. Think along the lines of Blue Eye Samurai, it’s about delivering a powerful character you care about, not just a superficial one to enhance "the message". I think the reaction from some of the fans is not because they just don't want a female lead it's because of what the likes of Disney, Amazon, Ubisoft etc are doing right now pushing their agendas.

They are afraid of their beloved series getting “Disneyed” which is perfectly valid fear by the way. Probably won’t happen but still. I think more people are upset about the fact that they didn't make a 2nd game that was a continuation for Jins' story. Where it was about the 2nd Mongol invasion which according to history, was way worse than the 1st one. Ghost of Tsushima was my favorite game, and I've waited 4 years for some sort of news to come out about a 2nd game, and then they show that trailer. It was disappointing for me, but whatever.

I get that! And trust me, I would have LOVED a continuation of Jin's incredible story! I had so much fun in the first game I could never put it into words. Thing is, the whole game was fiction based on an even that happened in history. The Mongols invading Tsushima is the extent of the historical accuracy of the first game. So honestly, we can't exactly expect for it to be some kind of history game. SP did an incredible job with the first game and I have all the faith that they will do the same with this one! They haven't let us down yet!

I was sad to see Jin's story not being because i liked him alot as a character but i was hyped af seeing a female mc. As a man, i usually pick women to play as in games because I'll never be one, games are where we can be things we're not. The only possible red flag i see is the va possible getting her way and pushing a agenda in the game, but there's no sign of that people should actually wait to see before jumping to conclusions. I also have some thoughts on them suddenly going this direction. Look at all of the beloved female mcs of gaming, where many of them were created beacuse people just genuinely wanted to switch things up from guys, or even some of them could of been for representation. Some can be because guys just love women like 2b's creation. My point is that we simply don't know if this mc was created because they simply wanted to switch things up, or to because people didn't like the idea of male mc. When the game comes out it should show why they've made the decision they've made but even if it's for my worst reasons, i trust the studio to make a good quality game.

I can see the backlash from 2 things. The first being not a sequel to Ghost of Tsushima. I and many others were looking forward to continuing Jin Saki’s story. But at the same time, Sucker Punch can turn this into a hopeful and better version of Assassin’s Creed. And I am really looking forward to that. The second that I and others can agree with is her political beliefs. Granted we all have different beliefs in politics and we all can have a respectful convo. Everyone has a butthole but they all smell different. Gross but true anology. Now, as long as they leave modern politics out of this game, and just focus on a game that is fun and what kept me and others going during covid, then this game will be great. Except in that case it was more about how bangable she was because they couldn't say its not "historically accurate" so they just found another way to attack a female character. People should be judging games on how good the story and gameplay are first and foremost. The fact that the protagonist in Ghost of Yotei is female shouldn't matter as long as the character is solid and the development of said character is satisfying. As of right now we have no idea how that will be. The game was just announced. Pandering isn't good but so far that hasn't been shown to be the case. I personally just want to play as a bad ass ronin. Male or female. So far I'm very excited for the next chapter in the Ghost anthology and maintain hope for this series. Keep in mind the opposite end of this spectrum is AC Shadows which seems to only care about pandering and most likely will fail because of that. I will support Sucker Punch as long as they make quality games with fantastic stories like Ghost of Tsushima regardless of the gender of the protagonist. If the game is at least close to as good as the first one I will support it.

We've had some really strong female led franchises in entertainment, and to discount something as "woke" just because there's a female lead, is highly reductive and immature. That said, this is an over correction to the heavy-handed activism of the left, and those with an agenda who have infiltrated the gaming/entertainment space, ruining multiple franchises. Hijacking, ignoring the lore, and insulting the established fan base. The sanity lies in the middle. If there's two people in a bed, and one keeps violently pulling the blanket, you can't say the person without blanket (ashy, butt naked, and cold, lol) is insane for yanking back some blanket. The dust is going to settle in the next 10 years, and cooler heads will prevail. This is a very fan service industry. If you hate your fans, or hire people who vocally hate their fans, you can't be surprised when fans no longer want to support your product. I have my views, but for this title I trust the developers. I'm just not oblivious to the destructive heavy hand used to destroy recent titles. And although I don't agree with ignorance, I can't say it's out of nowhere with their ability to recognize patterns. It would be best for everyone to just wait until more information comes out, don't say stupid things to the fan base like "don't like it, don't buy it" and give the studio some trust, as they are responsible for the masterpiece that is Ghost of Tsushima.

Yeah Ehpic we do need to talk...I know you want to sweep under the rug these genuine concerns from the community about the direction of this game after learning who Sucker Punch hired to act as Atsu so that it makes your life less stressful but these are important concerns nonetheless. Having this person representing SP, Sony, and the Ghost of Tsushima community is a serious red flag. It will be discussed and the game will be scrutinized. We love this franchise too. I have always wished games would give you a choice when it doesn’t really have an effect on the storyline because I just prefer to play as a male character since I am a male. This game is different because of the storyline. I have no issue playing a female because it’s her story. More power to her and to the real women this character represents in this culture. I hope the guys complaining about it don’t have wives, if so their wives should go find a man who respects and knows how strong women really are. In the end it’s just a game and no one is forcing anyone to buy it. Trolls will be trolls though. lol I’m sure I’ll get some just on my comment. Lol

I think they're mainly upset by the choice of the actress who they used for the character. She's an activist restard. So it doesn't bode well. Also if you look at this in a void, I'd agree with your take. But in this DEI infested world, this tracks.

I totally understand what you are saying. The fact that the actress has a questionable political past is interesting to say the least! Thing is, people are using that as an excuse to hate the game. We saw a THREE MINUTE TRAILER that showed nothing of any kind of agenda being pushed; which is what most comments that I see are mentioning. They think she has some kind of creative decision making power in this game and are talking about things that are "possible".. It's still so early and we haven't seen anything yet.

@@EhpicPlays true. But like I said, if you look at this in a void, you're absolutely right. Look at Star Wars, concord, assassins creed, etc. They all had a bad signs in the beginning in form of DEI. How many games would you need before you start spotting the patterns? Some people are sexist, true. But I think the majority of the backlash is because of what I described. They don't think the game is bad, they fear it is based on what's provided and the proven track record in the industry.

I feel some people are genuinely upset that the main character is a woman but I feel the majority are just scared they are gonna mess up the game like they have been with games in the past two years and looking into some of the people involved in the project especially the lead character actor they have a right to now I’m not saying it will happen I hope it doesn’t but her activities and other don’t exactly make my worries subside but we will see

It's not easy for some people including myself to accept female main protagonist. You mentioned Lara Croft, Ada Wong, Jill Valentine, Claire Redfield, Ellie, Aloy, Tifa Lockhart bcs they suited with their role and I don't protest it. What I don't like they made a role for a male, but they coerced it for female and vice versa. Kassandra didn't get the hate bcs there was Alexios to choose from and also Eivor female too there was choice for Eivor male. I'm hoping they continue the story of Masako or Tomoe and heard about Jin being hunted down across Japan. Ghost of Yōtei, Atsu then I considered she a ronin like Blue Eye Samurai then 🤷‍♂️

Man, Ghost is one of my favourite games of my entire life, its probably top 4 and i can't wait to put my hands in Ghost pf Yotei, all these guys criticizing the game that will be incredible by the simple fact that the protagonist is a female.....I mean bro, do you really like video games? Or do you care about characters? Because our protagonist right here is going to be fire 🔥

I didn’t have a problem with a female protagonist actually, I thought it was a nice change of pace. Also, I liked how the character looked but now I am worried that the game is gonna become woke

I don't get why ppl are hating on GOY, in my opinion a straightforward woman to be in the GOT sequel is a good idea. True, wokism is bad, but this isn't wokism. it's simply a change of protagonist sex, in this case a woman instead of a man, that is no reason to hate on the game and also think about the hot springs now😏
