i am done with Gryphon. watch the video to find out WHY! interested in a private consultation with me? email me at jayaudiolab@gmail.com for further details
Jay, I truly enjoyed the Pandora/Mephisto combination! I will Pray you find what you are looking for! Always follow your gut calls and don't allow double mindedness to take hold! Love your passion!
I realize after watching this channel that we all have a sickness. It’s upgrade-titis. Hehehe … Yeah … it’s a great channel. It feels more personal, more real …
Excellent discussion on your thoughts and feedback. Ignore the stupidity of people hiding behind their computer to upload insults. You have a unique high end audio channel. Keep up the great content!
I hope you will keep your Wilson's... classic gems and probably hard to find... can't wait to see what's next... thanks for all of your expert analysis!
I purchased a Diablo 300 for my new system and thanks to Jay i also got the VIP interconnect and speaker cables which i have to say is a great match. Driving a pair of power hungry Thiel CS 3.7s, bass is unbelievable with the Diablo 300! All of my power cables are Audioquest Firebird.
@@danlivni2097 They are my favorite ones, i've had several Thiel speakers since 1997. My favorire speaker brand even though they do not exist anymore. Jim Thiel is my all time favorire designer.
Hi Jay! I know it would have been too much to ask, but I wish you had the opportunity to try the DAC Kalliope in combination with Pandora and Mephisto ... In any case, thank you very much for your channel ever! I join Giuseppe's opinion. Greetings from Madrid
Great channel just subscribed, I would really like to hear your thoughts on ASR Emitter along with some Tenor Amps. It would be really cool if you could have some videos on setting up good budget systems for people getting into this hobby
Stepping into 2022 it’s funny how this video relates to the new Gryphon Mephisto Solos you now own and the Wilson XLF you just removed and replaced. We never really know the future.
Jay.. it would be beneficial to add the topologies used in these amplifiers for the output stage since it affects the character of the sound. Bipolar, MOSFET, VFET, etc… This would help narrow down the type of sound some are looking for. Many of these boutique brands are a mystery when it comes to details of the design. I enjoy the wide variety of amps and other equipment you review and discuss. I don’t have access to most of these brands locally and haven’t been to a hi-Fi show in many years, so it’s nice to see this gear in a user environment. Thanks!
Agreed, The engineering of the amps is generally left as a mystery, they are always opened up but no gain stages or output devices are shown. It's like talking about clothing and how it feels and looks but never talking about the material used to create the garment.
The title of this video scared the hell out of me, i thought there are some serious issues that the gryphon might have. The Essence stereo and preamplifier is the gear i am going to buy.
Jay, If possible - I kindly recommend you to give a try to YPSILON products. I have purchased Ypsilon Phaethon Integrated and it really sounds super close to sound like a powerful SET amplifier (I had 25-30 SET tube amps in the past). Recomended
its amazing how much time of your life you could save if you watch yuoutube videos in 2x the speed! Get the point twice as fast and get the point sooner, then move on! thank you Jay
Thanks so much for everything you do jay. you definitely get to play around with a level of equipment that i just dont think i get to ever afford. love the reviews and opinions im really impressed that you have strong opinions i often lament that when i go into a poorly run audio shop the guy there may as well be the netflix algorithm and dont really challenge me as a consumer. was wondering if you listened to the musical fidelity titan monoblock back when they were floating around. i never heard them but had that stereophile mag with them in there and was pretty in love at the time!!
I use 3 x Theta Citadel for the front channels of my theater set up. They are desktop computer shaped. Have to say, I'm impressed with them driving my Dunlavy SCV's. No complaints for the price.
The quality of the musical signal coming out of the source component defines the ultimate ability of a hi fi system. Every other audio component in the system merely passes on this signal with greater or less accuracy None can enhance or improve it. With that being said, you will probably never find an amplifier that completely satisfies you.
Thanks Jay for bringing all the Gryphon amps in your cave😊 Now its time to move on into the new chapter like Soultion 7 series or Lamm Industries or Audionet or Burmester to bring. Happy listening.🤘
Thanks for the Gryphon round up, I’ve been looking forward to it. It did take me a bunch of videos to figure out that the thing that looked like an air purifier was actually the Colosseum 🙂
Hi Jay. With all your experience with great amps, I was wondering if you've found a correlation between what you consider "good sound" and amp's damping factor. Some top notch brands believe DF is fundamental, while some other, don't really. Your experience on this would be an excellent stand point. Thanks!
The most recent edition of Hi-Fi News & Record Review reviewed the latest Mono Power amp and Pre-amp from CLASSE AUDIO. The reviewer was completely blown away by how good they sounded. Would you consider reviewing them?
Man, love this channel I've been into HiFi for 50 years and never herd someone talk with such conviction and knowledge the beautiful thing is Jay isn't trying to sell you nothing so he's opinion cares a lot of weight keep up the good work!
hello, have you own the Colosseum?I work with Gryphon since the mid 90´s,and steady for the last 9 years in a store called Ultimate Audio, did many shows with gryphon, and other brands that we represent and for me Gryphon electronics are still in the podium, especially if you have Rockport speakers. And BW 800D3 with Anthelion Evo is amazing match.
Terrific video! Very thoughtful introspect on your journey with Gryphon components and a very positive final note on your experiences with the brand. I was anxious to listen as I thought you had a bone to pick. On to different - not necessarily better - pastures....but who knows, a few jewels will surely come up along this fantastic ride. Cheers!
Hi everyone, I'm seeking some unbiased opinions. I currently own Sonus Faber Amator III speakers and have two options available to me. The first is a Gryphon Diablo with a built-in DAC, priced at 100k NOK from the dealer, which I'm considering. The second option, from another dealer, is an older Diablo 250 with RIAA but no internal DAC. However, it comes with an AURALIC ALTAIR G1.1 streamer/DAC and Nordost XLR cable for 70k NOK, making it the cheaper option. My question is: in terms of pure sonic performance and synergy with my Amator III speakers, which amplifier would be better? Would the older but more powerful Diablo 250 outperform the newer technology Diablo 120, or vice versa? I understand that in terms of pure synergy, the Gryphon Diablo with the built-in DAC might be superior, but it comes at a 30k higher price tag
Hello Jay, another terrific review of the Gryphon line. There is absolutely nobody who has done the sort of careful listening that you’ve done and then tried it with many top notch cables. I will never forget the Essence monos and the Magico M6 combo, wow! That was such a great combo, and for me, one of the best on your channel. Thanks for all the hard work in bringing to us this out there magical gear that the majority of us will not be able to afford, unless one of us wins the Lottery! So thanks a million for bringing us cutting edge gear, and pairing it up with other super quality gear. You’re the best Jay. Take it easy, and keep up the good work.
Jay, can I suggest a series on Jeff Rowland products? I'm curious to hear your take on JR after hearing the Gryphon, Boulder, and Pass Labs gear. Also, how about a review on some of Legacy Audio's top speakers with DSP, like the Aeris, V, and Valor systems? Again, I'd love to hear your thoughts compared to your Wilson's and Magicos. Legacy Audio is a brand with a long history that I think gets overlooked in the industry, and there aren't many reviews out there. Curious to see what you are getting into next!
I think Rowland makes better looking equipment. Really works of art, and I have always loved the sound and comparing to some of the price points out there represent excellent value.
I have B&W805D3, planning to upgrade the amplifier. I mostly listen to pop music. Which of the following amplifier would be suggested? 1.) Gryphon Diablo 120 2.) Hegel H390 3.) Used Classe CP-500/CP-800 Pre Amplifier + CA-2200 Amplifiers Appreciate any opinions
@@jaysaudiolab Therefore, Wilson knew that the resistor configuration was optimized for your gear and room upon ordering? They are in the rear for a reason, I would think. Perhaps it is optimized for the grand majority of setups. Please educate me J, or anyone else.
Ok, you're done with Gryphon.... Its all the same because nothing bettered the Boulder mono's with Wilson on this channel so far to date. Patiently waiting.
What I am hearing is that all of these extremely expensive components sound different. If the ideal is the "straight wire with gain" goal, then these systems fail. In a blind test where the price tag that gives you boasting rights is hidden, I'd bet there is a $20,000 system that sounds just as good as a $500,000 system.
klipsch is a live sound you can adjust them to your liking with an equalizer, without a doubt for home cinema I use them with a yamaha Class AB and a CROWN XLS1002 class D without any noise with a great sound there really is no reason to spend tons of money buying Luxman, Accuphase E 380, Gryphon Diablo 300 with a DISTORTION
Jay could you do some subwoofer reviews? I struggle with subs. I’ve done dual subs… Small subs to my current 15” single sub. Do you prefer to get sub signals directly from the speaker terminals or from sub outs via rca cables? Maybe you don’t even used subs for your music system and only use it for theater…
Try some REL's. High level inputs are going to match the main speakers much better than a LFE .1 RCA feed. Rhythmic I think has High level as well as KEF.
Jay you have been stellar with featuring Gryphon, the premier Danish amp manufacturer. Everyone, there is a simple reality regarding hi end components. It's far easier to package American brands ( USA & Canada) than European brands to make a deal for a new purchase. Again, this truism applies to high end. European amps, speakers, cables, dacs all sell well new, but their value doesn't hold compared to american lines. This is due to the fact that high end dealers carry three times as many american brands as they do European.
To me, Gryphon is not my end game system. It just sound “unnatural” to me. I will be happy with a FM Acoustics Pre/amp set, even their entry level is musically more satisfactory than Gryphon or other big names out there
