I'm 30. I'm too old to care what other people think about my hobbies. Most people think my passion for chickens is weird, but I honestly don't care.

Yep, at 62, my husband is really the only one whose opinion I value. He collects action figures, so... Yeah. I also raise mini Aussies, so having 12 dogs (and a new litter of 6) shocks more than a few people. Don't be embarrassed, you do you! In 10 years (even 3 years) no one unimportant to you will care or even remember your "weirdness".

Official weirdo adult story time here... Getting serious about collecting model horses in part got me off of a drinking habit (Not an addiction, a habit. Thankfully I was never dependent on alcohol, but gosh I liked it there for awhile. That started to wear off when I finally had medical intervention for a chronic pain issue.). I knew I needed the endorphin reward, but I no longer wanted to get that from drinking. So, instead of hitting the liquor store after work before the weekend, I ordered a Breyer online. The excitement waiting for it to arrive was good, and sure I did feel like a kid (in a good way), but after a rough few years, I was just happy to be feeling happy. And even during the dark days that we have faced lately, I have not turned back to using alcohol. I have the odd tipple now as a social thing, but for the most part the desire is gone. Plastic ponies are a FAR more healthy habit, and no one can tell me any differently. My favourite thing in the world now is to hop in the car on my day off, and hit antique stores, etc, and look for vintage models in the wild. It's far more fun than sitting around with unhealthy people, doing an unhealthy thing. So, do model horses save lives? No, probably not, but of late, they have definitely helped my outlook on life.

This is such an inspirational video! I'm 26 and still collect beautiful models! When I first started collecting my breyers I did feel embarrassed to tell people but I quickly realised, hey it doesn't matter what they think! I enjoy it, that's all that matters and to my surprise alot of the people I told or found out I collect them, were actually quite interested! They know I have a HUGE love for horses and models, so they accepted it very easily. DO WHAT YOU LOVE 🐴♥️

I am at this point in my life where I’m embarrassed to have friends come upstairs because they will see all of my Breyers. My husband was supportive in the sense that it’s something that I enjoy, but he doesn’t really appreciate the amount of money that has gone into my hobby. Thank you for making this video because it made me feel a little better about my collection.

What an important message- thank you so much for sharing! I definitely experienced this growing up, and I absolutely agree that it gets better as you get older. I'm extremely lucky to have a supportive boyfriend who also has a miniature-based hobby that involves painting and collecting. I definitely wouldn't be where I am in the hobby today without his support. Find the people that support your passions and don't let them go!

Well, I'm going to be 70 in a few weeks, and I have 75 Breyer horses, mostly traditionals. I'm not rich, but I spent $985.00 on an Alborozo. I have painted about a dozen Breyers, again, mostly traditionals, and sold half a dozen of those. The most was for $143.00. Most of my friends are supportive, especially when the horses started to sell. Some of my friends don't get it, but are fine with it. One or two people have seen my horse collecting as a waste of money, but they are not people I have much to do with. Good video. Good for people to hear about. I'm guessing that it's helpful to many.

I just recently started watching your videos...and honestly it was everything I was looking for as techniques on customizing breyer horses. I’m a guy. And I’ve been collecting them since i was 11.. and was always teased about my collection as it grew especially by my male cousins and friends because that’s just not what “normal” guys do. So I’ve always tried not to talk about it to anyone and was always embarrassed when friends would come over and see my horses on my shelf...they would just laugh and be like “what the heck are these???” So I’ve always tried to keep my hobby to myself. I’ve always wished I had a friend who collects but that never happened. When I met my wife I was terrified of her finding out about them, she one day showed up at my house before i came home from work to surprise me and was just sitting in my room looking at them😳 and to my surprise she was in awe over them and is the first person to take so much interest in them. She even bought me a few! Didn’t mean to be this long with this but I just wanted to thankyou and to let you know that your not alone and please don’t stop collecting!👍

I'm 50 now, and while I disappointed my mom after 2 brothers that I didn't fall for the dolls and dresses and went more towards the horses, animals, bugs, fishing and mud LOL (guess that's what you get growing up with 2 brothers? :) ) My first ever model was the bay QH yearling..or Man O War, can't exactly remember but I was hooked after that and I was probably in 1st grade because I was addicted to horses as far back as I can remember in Pre K, possibly even before that because I remember my mom and dad always having to pull me off the concrete donkey in the neighbors yard because I liked to pretend it was a real donkey and it was the perfect size for me to ride on..that and obsession with riding carousels. Everyone called me the horse girl through school. I got my first horse in 4th grade and I had the shirt with the 3/4 sleeves with glittery horse iron ons and then my horse's name in letters down the sleeves.. I had one for every single day of the week. I had jeans with horses embroidered on the side seams going up my legs. I was obssessed, I didn't care what every one thought, I wasn't in to what the other girls were in to (boys, make up, clothes, fashion) and was called a freak made fun of a lot but I didn't care, I had my own little bubble world that I loved. Now of course as I got older I got out of the models and out of the horses because the funds weren't there and life happens kids, family etc. I remember I used to try and paint my models and make tack for them and now I watch all this stuff on RU-vid and think dang!!! I could've put all my stuff on RU-vid!!!!! LOL Now at 50, with grown kids.. collecting breyers again I almost kinda feel guilty but don't? I mean now I have grown friends who don't understand it.. hell I think my grown kids aren't really understanding it because I've pulled down all my models as a child out of the attic and started placing them out on the shelves again and buying some here and there. Each horse I've pulled out of boxes makes me smile. It brings me back to when life was simple and easy and such great memories. I can even remember for what reason I got most of them and who gave what as a gift for Christmas and birthdays. It also brings back great memories of a childhood friend who also collected them and we'd take turns staying at each other's house playing all weekend long super late at night even with our horses who sadly passed away 6 years ago. I remember Sitting in the livingroom or out in the back yard or even just my room on the floor playing with my models, treating them like real horses. I've tried getting my 5 yr old grand daughter to play with them because they're scratched up enough already kids don't get it today like then, it's like NO imagination. I think everyone gets bullied for one thing or another through school, because yes kids are mean. My kids were bullied but unfortunately the difference between now and back then is when I went to school, the bullying was only at school, now it's 24/7 in person and online and it's sad. What's worse is the parents that refuse to deal with their child that is doing the bullying :(

Do what makes you happy as long as it doesnt hurt anyone do what you like. I love breyer horses. I cant afford them but every now and again I find one at a flea market or something. I get just as excited for that old plastic horse as I did the first breyer horse I got. It was a friesian Stallion. You are an amazing artist. Thanks for being real.

Truly, what is anyone supposed to do to be normal? You get into makeup, you are told you’re vain; you love animals, you need to grow up; you are into art, you need to find something more substantial. There was a meme that is so true, it said something along the lines of “So what if I collect ____, you have an entire china cabinet full of plates no is allowed to use.” 😂

I was always called weird because of my horse addiction since I was a little kid... Now I have a big collection of plastic horses (even My Little Ponies omg!!) and people still call my childish. I'm 33 years old and I don't care. I know what makes me happy and as long as it's not hurting me or other people why would it be a problem? In my country we still don't have Breyer horses in the stores so people have no idea what these horses are or what's the value of them. They are just "Barbie horses" and toys. I got used to the bad reactions over the years, but anybody who is interested I can explain why is it good why this hobby keeps me in for so long and why I will not give it up until something big and seious happens in my life... And a lot of times people who is willing to listen they understand and they see the beauty in it. Even if they wouldn't do the same as I do they accept it. And that's the most important thing in life. We are all different and we have to accept each other so everybody can be happy in their own unique way. Thank you for the video

I am struggling with my love for model horses. Maybe, just maybe I was that one girl at school who had a horse and made horse noises. (I grew up pretty sheltered so I didn’t know that this was weird and probably why I am currently an outcast) flash forward a few years, I am in middle school and finally have a good group of friends. Well I thought I did anyway. The one girl said that they were overpriced pieces of plastic. The one was in my class since kindergarten and mentioned to all my new friends that I wrote in her year book “Morgan the Horse” she said “If you don’t believe me I’ll send you a picture.” I told her to and never received the picture, so that was definitely a flat out lie. Currently I left that group, and nobody has texted me except my mom, and I can’t even get a good conversation with somebody. I try to be optimistic and go by “terrible childhood = great adulthood”

I'll admit I'm jealous that your college classmates were genuinely curious about your models! I had multiple professors and students that belittled me for my collection and using my customs as projects. I stopped collecting and painting models for a while because of them. However, I ended up meeting my now husband, and he's been SO supportive of the hobby and is the reason why I'm becoming more confident in my art! Don't settle for people that belittle your hobbies, you'll always find someone that will support you ❤

Something I started doing when someone would tell me it’s weird to collect toys, models, dolls, etc Id just ask them “why?” 90% of the time, the person would become really flustered because it’s not what they expected me to say and they don’t have a real reason why they think it’s weird. It works so well!!!

I can relate. I have been collecting since I was 4. When I was a child I only had 4 breyers and the rest were Grand Champions and Kid Kore. My friends thought it was werid. Now I have over 38 Breyers and I will still collect. I have them in a shelf in my living room closet so when we have people over I can always shut the door, but there are times it was open and I forgot to shut it, they were seen and I have got some compliments on how beautiful they were. This is how I explain it to people Breyers are like shoes, you need one in every color, Breed , size, and I also can't afford a real horse so this is the best I can get. Thank you for making this video, I hope a lot of collecter see this and get more confidence in their Breyer collecting.

As an adult, I know that he came from an abusive home and they never had much money for toys and I realize where his hostility was coming from. The best part about getting older as that you care less and less about what other people think. I'm so happy to be my age because I've pretty much dropped all those concerns about the opinions and judgments of others. These days I have a niece and a daughter who are both collectors and we have so much fun being weird together.

I am 60+. I collect horse models. Breyer, Peter Stone, Schleich, Papo, Safari are in my Collection. At one time I had over four hundred. But some of my models were stolen, the landlord helpers I think lifted them cannot prove it. So I have to be creative in hiding them in plain sight. I have some that are boxed up , and alternate between who is out or boxed. As far as people go, I tell them my money, my hobby and there is the door.

I'm an italian model collector and horse racing lover. In case you don't know, both things you can't really find in my country, or at least in the region where I live: model horses aren't imported and the local horse racing industry is collapsing. You can't even imagine HOW hard it is to be "the only one in this place" to have these passions that no one cares about or that people don't even know what I'm talking about. It's a side of me I've always kept secret 'cause I know no one will ever really understand it. It shocks me to see there's someone at the other side of the world that feels exactly like me even tho model horses and horse racing are more of a thing there than here. It kinda makes me feel like "we're alone together". Keep doing what you love, your work is amazing and there's nothing to be ashamed if it's part of who you are💪🏻 Sending lots of love from Italy💕, xxEllie

Oh my goodness, the purity in this video is AMAZING- thank you so much for sharing all of this! I have definitely had my bouts with "downing friends"... those who have called me "strange" or "nerdy" for my love of model horses (among multiple other things XD)... and I used to be a closet collector as well! Whenever friends or family members would come over, I would rush to hide away my models- I was nearly ashamed to have them in the house. My mom was (and still is) incredibly supportive of the hobby, and even helped me to build some literal closet shelves to store my horses on as my collection grew. I kept it hidden for a while- I'll be honest, a lot longer than I would've thought possible- until one fateful day, when my best friend came over to hang out for a few hours. There was a public pool within walking distance of my house, and after chatting for a while, we resolved to go for a swim- the only problem being, she forgot her swim suit. So, of course, I offered up one of my spare ones, thinking I could just slip into the closet and grab it! What I neglected to realize, however, was that she was much closer to the closet door than I was- and as I nearly yelled "NO, WAAAIT!!" she flung the door open... only to gasp as she discovered the 15 or so models housed within. I just stopped and stood there, stymied- heart beating in my throat, cheeks flushed red- and looked up at her, just waiting for the insults to start flying. To my surprise, however, she said nothing- just turned around and locked eyes with me, grinning from ear to ear. She picked up one of my appaloosas, pet her on the nose, and said, "I have this one, too- her name's Ryn! What did you name yours?" As it turns out, my bestie was also a closet collector- and neither of us had any idea about the other! And instead of going to the pool that afternoon, she and I grabbed a Breyer catalogue, plopped down on my bed, and made a wish list of the models we were seeking- talking for hours about the "obscure" hobby both of us just so happened to adore! My point with that story is that one should never be ashamed to collect model horses- or to collect anything, for that matter! If you love it- and it brings you joy- OWN IT... shout your adoration from the rooftops! I know it's terrifying at first- the fear of judgement is one that all of us have been taught to share. But somewhere out there- somehow- there will be someone who understands it... whether that someone be a fantastic youtuber, a classmate, or a close friend! And, you never know- that certain someone could be right next to you... you just have to take a leap of faith to let them see it!

Thank you. This is definitely something that needed to be said. I too have been embarrassed of my collecting for years. I hate to admit that but I was bullied for this too. Mind you, I am also not a girl and I am gay. Not that, that is necessarily all that important, but, I became even more of a target for people. Every day I worry about what people have to say about my collecting and interest because I don't want to be bullied like was in school. I don'ttalk about my collecting, nor do give people many details about my collection when asked. You can tell when someon is genuinely interested and wants to know more about why you love it so much, and when someone is just trying to get some juicy details to gp spread behind your back. Which unfortunately has happened to me a few times. One particular coworker told other people I was a "baby" and that my interests are too childish. That I need to grow up. And that baffles me. How could someone be so cruel about something you are passionate about? I really could be doing worse things with my life. So why bully me for something that isn't harming me or even making any difference in other people's lives?

Thank you for this Darynn. I collected as many as I could as a child and eventually gave it up as an adult. I was bullied for being different too and for being completely obsessed with horses. I'm flying my freak flag high these days with a grin on my face and have started collecting again. Your videos have helped me tremendously as I learn to customize my rather beat up herd from childhood and turn them into new treasures. I reconnected with a local artist friend from my teen years who is directly responsible for my exposure to Breyers. Like you, she has inspired me and encouraged me to stretch myself in the customizing hobby. You are so right about the online community...they have been nothing but welcoming, helpful and supportive. I feel so empowered and delighted to be back in the hobby again and letting setting that love of horses free from constraint.

I'm 51. I've been playing Dungeons and Dragons, creating fantasy worlds, and painting (landscape oil first) since I was 12 years old. You will continue to get judged by others for wasting time, being immature for your hobbies etc. and it won't stop. I can give you some comfort though in that I assure you that there are others like yourself out there; you just may have not met them yet. Expand your circle (as it sounds like you have) and you will find that there are people out there that can appreciate you for you and be supportive. I'm an engineer and just had to change my circle to one that eventually led me to my wife who is a fellow nerd (Masters in Music/Opera and loves fantasy worlds as much as I do). Thank you for making that video! I think it is important to know, that horse collecting isn't just some stupid kids thing. I live in a very small town were everybody knows each other and "toy" collection is considered weird and seen as childish. As a kid I didn't have access to Breyer models, so I got my first one when I was about 18 years old. I was so proud of it and constantly talked about it. Most of my friends (at that time) honestly judged and belittled me and I really felt ashamed. So I stopped collecting them and never mentioned them again. Until I saw how many beautiful models are out there and how many people collect them. So I got myself some more horses. The friends that belittled me, were never really my friends, I now know that. I have friends now that really seem to care and a boyfriend that supports me. We are both really weird. I collect dinosaurs and Breyers and he collects Lord of the Rings stuff ^-^

This is such an Important message to anyone who is afraid to show what their hobby is! i know this all too well , i suffer with Depression and Anxiety and have had my fair share of so called ''Friends'' who think it's so childish and a waste of money but yet go out drinking and smoking ...my mum was very Against me collecting breyers after a certain age , about 15 i think ... so each day after school i would notice my collection getting smaller and smaller . I later found out that my mum was selling my models behind my back, and i eventually had to give it all up for about 10 years ....i then recently got back into the hobby slowly when i moved in with my best friend who was the only person to love what i collected , my mum slowly let me collect Breyers again and she could see that it helped mentally with my depression and Anxiety and that i was a much happier person because this was an Escape from reality for me . thanks DeeJayBe

Thank you for making this video - says everything I wish I could have told my younger self! I'm now 26 and have just got back into the hobby a year ago after a long 10 year break - mainly because I was made to feel I was too old to collect model horses. However since I've been back I'm lucky to have a supportive boyfriend who actually helps out on projects and shows a genuine interest in my collection. I have a stressful job which doesn't allow me to have time for a horse of my own yet so having models is my way of connecting with horses when I can't physically be with them as well as encouraging me to get creative in tack making etc which is such good stress relief! I have even taken my models out in public for photoshoots (albeit trying to take them on the sly to minimise attention)! I've realised that the only person who you should please is yourself so if model horses make you happy don't let anybody else tell you it's stupid or a waste of money/time!

I collect prehistoric and dinosaur figures and I guess most people would think it's for childdren. They know nothing about it so it won't make me change my mind, but it can be annoying, and actually collecting and decorations is pretty common nowdays, especially with new generations, it's like pop culture. I actually think that when you have such a passion, even if people don't understand, you can actually talk about it (under the right circonstances !), and they will feel your emotion and get interrested. It's not only about the figures, it's about prehistoric times, animals that I love, I can teach them many things. As for horses, you can also teach them many things, collecting those figures is just one aspect of the passion for those animals. But of course you can't talk about it with everyone or at any time, there are moments for that, and it's ok, you just need to find the ones with who you can share the hobby, and it's not the case only with collecting but with many other passions. I love video games, and I'm not going to talk about it with anybody, if they don't care of course I understand. Remember it is a strengh, and that it makes you unique. Most people are the same and love the same things. I should not judge them either, but I can't help but find many boring : work, money, eating, drinking, trips. There I have summed up 99% of the people interests on earth. That's all they talk about. They find you weird, you find them boring and bland.

Never be afraid to let your flag fly.... I've added "model horses" to the bottom of my CV (resume) in the 'interests' section when applying for jobs. Why? Because it's memorable. It makes me unique, rounded and demonstrates openness and curiosity. The fact I run a live show that's raised over £1500 for charity shows ingenuity, organisational skills, communication... It also gives an interviewer something light-hearted to bring up.... one guy even said "you mean like Breyer? My daughter loves them!" Well, you could've knocked me off my chair! Bearing in mind I'm in the UK and Breyer are by no means easily available or a known toy company... Both interviewers were fascinated to hear more! If you hide it away and feel embarassed/ashamed by it, your reaction only serves to reinforce the negativity/mocking/lack of understanding. It gives those who bully or accuse on the basis that they are ignorant and cannot understand validity; it PROVES to them that you are silly, you should be ashamed. It's no different than saying to someone who is gay that they are correct in feeling ashamed and embarrassed about their sexuality and should hide it away. No sensible, feeling, open-hearted human would DREAM of saying that to someone. So why do you (whoever "you" are out there) feel it's ok to say that to yourself? Hopefully you understand what I'm trying to say...? By hiding, you AGREE your hobby, your passion, the things that make you happy are wrong and worthy of feeling ashamed. So let your flag fly! Be proud of yourself! If you can't be proud, you can't expect others to be... To paraphrase a well-known song: "Look out 'cause here I come . And I'm marching on to the beat I drum. I'm not scared to be seen. I make no apologies, this is me."

You see,I am going to be 61 years old in September. And just this year I started playing with toy horses..But the reactions I get from others is nothing compared to when I tell them what I do in the summer months..For the last 10 years I've been doing research on Mt.St.Helens. Researching, getting to know the same clan or tribe of Sasquatch. No kidding,I camp in the same spot, coming home every week to catch up on chores and refresh, reload and back up I go. Wow what a fantastic video! 😍 This is actually the first video of yours I’ve come across (probably because I’ve been obsessively watching Breyer unboxing videos! 🤦‍♀️😆👍) I’m 40. I recently bought some of the re-released My Little Ponies like the ones I had as a child. I was going to hide them away in a bedroom because, yeah, I thought people would think it was weird. Husband (who is a lot, lot older than me!) actually said ‘no, they’re really pretty and I like them. They should stay in the living room’. So I thought about it, and realised that he was absolutely right. Why should I be embarrassed? Other people have China dolls etc on display? These are much prettier!! So I cleared a cupboard of random stuff that didn’t mean anything to me and got some more to form a proper display and they really do look beautiful. Then I found Breyer models, CollectA models and Schleich models..... so I’ve got some of those and have ordered a new cupboard to display them. Some will go in a bedroom (very small flat!) but some will be proudly on display. I may even do a whole ‘realistic’ Scheich display in one room..... I have a great imagination and I don’t think it’s changed since I was a child. I can’t have a real horse.... so why not? Good for you and I was nodding away. You are spot on and I’m soooo pleased you said this. 😀 (Oh and your eye makeup is amazing, you have lovely eyes.) Thank you for making this. 😊💕

One of the biggest truths I think I've discovered as I've grown up (and older) is this: THERE IS NO NORMAL. "normal" is a construct, a falsehood, a way to separate "us" from "them". I first started collecting models in my teens. My mother was supportive of my hobby and I lucked out and found some people who were also "horse crazy" and so I had someone to talk to about my passion. I would say to anyone who is made fun of or talked down to because they love horses and collect models don't listen to the negativity. Most people have some kind of hobby they're into. People who put others down simply don't understand. I have friends who think my collection is wonderful. I have at least one friend who feels I have too many but she doesn't run me down about it. And I know there are people that I've told about my hobby that don't understand but I really don't care. Enjoy what you enjoy. Find other people that share your joy of horses and don't let anybody steal your joy away from you.

61 years old and yes I remember feeling like that. Junior high came and I changed which parent I was living with. I left my horse collection ( a brown bag of about 35 tiny mites) at my moms, and she sold them in a garage sale, and she kept the money! I had about 6 Breyer and Johnny west horses that she kept until I was 20. I still have a Breyer donkey from that. I decided I would replace my collection now. I found the stablemates to be the most fun and terrific community. I have obsessed over horses, riding, mules, my family treated me like I had a disease. I sat down with a few of them and cleared things up. At 55 then, I had a lot more tools of expression, to help them understand the value of my passion. I’m a farm wife and I’m good with the horses and cattle. I still enjoy model horses. Thank you for your videos.

Sometimes we need some time to find our place under the sun. And also I have to mention that collecting and customizing plastic models is still young hobby and not all people can understand it yet. Anyway it is important to keep in my mind that i-don’t-care-persons probably do not really care about your personality. Such reaction or pressure may be justified if you do something not safe to yourself or all your surroundings. But plastic animals... Why is it counted as something weirder than other hobbies as sports, chess, golfing, watching TV? Do people search a deep meaning in it? Ok, maybe they tell us what meaning is in art itself or in watching birds? All hobbies give us joy. And many amazing model artists and sculptors have grown from the collecting of cheap toys. Also collecting may link to many other hobbies as well: for example, photographing and many others.

I used to be the same way, embarrassed, afraid, etc. But I don’t care anymore 🤷🏻‍♀️ People can think whatever they want

When I was growing up I was pretty poor. I always wanted Breyer and schleich horses but couldn’t afford them. But when I was 11 I got a couple of models and was so happy I took my favourite leopard Appaloosa Breyer with me everywhere and she never broke or got scuffed. But my “friend” broke off its leg after making fun of my horses. I’m so glad that now I have friends who have a couple of Breyer and schleich and stuff like that. I’m just so happy that I still decided to collect these little models because they’re really cute and I like to paint them! Breyer horses and schleich are so much fun for honestly everyone of any age.

Bullying sucks. Doesn't matter what it is about. I'm 55 and I had my first Breyers when I was oh... 12? Something like that. And then I didn't have any. They were packed away in boxes, and I left them at my parents house. They are still there, and my dad was going through boxes for me to find them, and find my little play horses (Britains etc) too, to bring them with him when he comes to visit. Is it weird? Maybe. Do I care? Nope. Other people collect stamps. I collect Model horses.

Who defines normal ? I have a plaque that says ...normal is boring . Don't worry about it , when I started collecting back in the early 90 there were several who were grandparents who collected Breyers . I'm from the era of Lauri Jo Jensen , Sarah M , Chris Jolly and Black Horse Ranch just name a few . Some are still around .

Collecting breyer isn't something bad. Heck people collect video game figures. And posters. Collecting horse models are dope. And honestly I got into breyer cuz my mom handed down her models. And I've started painting some....its really fun😊😊 btw I love watching your videos. If you ever sell your breyers. I would definitely buy one from you. Your my favorite youtubers and I live your vids. Keep up the good work and your amazing. Also my bf is the most supportive person I have with my breyers....he's always asking if I'm painting a new one or if I got some new pretty horses and I get so exited...he's so sweet and amazing....and honestly the breyer horses and star stable online is the closest I can get to owning a horse...so it means a lot to me...and I can tell it means so much to you. I support you 100%

What!?! I'm first! But why give up anything you love? Normal is boring, you don't want to be like everyone. Fu=k everyone who says normal should be the usual.

I’ve happily and openly collected Breyers since I was 5. I never had anyone give me any guff about it, since a lot of my close friends had them too. It was no big deal. Those friends in fact eventually gave me their horses when they no longer wanted them. When I was a young adult, my collection really grew, and I had well over 300 horses total, along with several porcelains, resins, and other collectibles. I was crushed to lose 90% of my collection in the Camp Fire in 2018. The bulk of my collection was in storage at my parents house for safe keeping while my own young family grew and moved around. But my parents house, along with most of the town of Paradise, CA, burned to the ground, and my collection a was effectively gone. I actually managed to find a single broken Porcelain in the ash of the house, confirming the location of the models. In the nearly 3 years since the fire, I’ve begun to rebuild my collection, slowly buying all the most beautiful versions of my favorite models. I’ve even found a random box or two during a move to a new house with a few horses, and my dad recently brought me a box with 9 of the most precious horses in my collection, that he found after tearing some cabinets out of the garage of his moms house. Her condo was one of the few houses spared, so they’ve been living there. He found this box shoved back into an obscure corner, and in it was a one-of-a-kind Riverside Storm resin by the artist Jennifer Kistler, which my dad molded and cast for her in the early 90’s. It’s one of only 25 ever made, and he’s the crown of my collection. And he survived, through random happenstance. Don’t ever apologize for loving these hunks of plastic and paint. Everybody has something random they love, and for us horse lovers, these are ours. Keep doing amazing things, you’re an inspiration to us. Many of the horses I lost were customized and painted by myself, and I have always wanted to do what you do, it’s a passion of mine to resculpt and repaint models. Keep it up. We need more peeps like you in the hobby.💕

I used to re-paint Barbie Horses in high school. One friend found out and threatened to blackmail me (like I wasn't different enough already). I think insecure people will reject you because they're afraid of being rejected through association. It's dumb, and thankfully eases as you get older. When people ask me about it now, I tell them that it's like 'Warhammer' for horse folk, or model car collecting for motorheads.

I’m so sorry you had to deal with bullies like this. I have had my share of those exact bullies. Now most of them that made fun of me are living their lives and karma has caught up to them! I’ll always support your hobby and collection because it’s mine and it’s very many others!

My first Breyer was at age 13. And I've been collecting them for 43 years. DJ don't let others put you down for what you like. I've seen what you are doing you help others by showing them how to make customs in the model horse world, you teach and you seem to enjoy showing others how to do it themselves.
