Getting an A+ cert just takes understanding of the concepts and common sense. Be careful not to overthink the subject or you'll just work harder than you have to.
Update: I passed the CompTIA N10-007 Network+ exam this January. This video I made was for the CompTIA A+ 900 series. As of July 2019 they were updated to the 1000 series. The study tips in this video are essentially all the same. For the Objectives of the 1000 series here are the official links for both exam cores from comptia's website: www.comptia.jp/pdf/comptia-a-220-1001-exam-objectives.pdf www.comptia.jp/pdf/comptia-a-220-1002-exam-objectives.pdf
SinX4Lyfe Hi, I work as an IT Support Engineer Tier 1/2 for the internal company. I am actually getting laid off today due to the Coronavirus causing redundancies in my company. So now I am actively looking for remote work.
Great work passing the A+ certification. I just started studying for the test myself but already have over a decade of experience fixing computers and building them for family/friends, etc... so just going to make it official by getting the certification. I'm already several chapters into the book and online training and I have found that most of the things I already knew, and learned some things I didn't. Still got plenty ways to go yet. Would love to hear from you in a future video how the career goes. Best of luck! :-)
I'm in the same boat you were in a year ago. I just started studying and found out the same there's a lot I already know and learning things I didn't know. Was the exam as simple as it looks or is there some complication to it ?
Thanks for the video, some questions: 1. How long did it take you to study and get the CompTIA certification? 2. How much study time did you do every day? 3. Are you working in IT?
From the video, all I heard is: - He read a chapter from the book every day. - He studied one whole section of objectives every day. So I guess it's however long that takes.
Mike Meyers broadcasts live every MWF at 2:00p (CST) and answers questions on the Total Seminars RU-vid channel. - Thanks for posting this video.....you have some sources that you shared that I had not known about.
Thanks for the video! I am trying to get certified soon, and I was immediately scared of the cost of entry. But thanks to you, I have a ton of resources at my disposal and feel more confident than ever about this!
I'm glad I stumbled across this video because I plan not to go to school as well due to low income. I'm very happy to see this is obtainable and obtainable with a good set of scores too.
Congratulations!!! Thanks for posting this video, it really helps to guide me how to start from cero learning about ComptiA+. I bought Mike Meyers book, subscribed to his video, bought Professor Messer's notes and watching his videos from his site. No computer experience but love to be around them.
Your organization skills are super on point. What helped me pass my Sec+ and A+ were the core objectives printed out. These are super important to judging whether you are ready to take the test or not by going through each objective and see if you have a handle on the info it covers. For study materials you listed all the good ones. Messer videos are very good and UDEMY has some great resources for cheap lectures and practice tests as well. Any news on passing your Net+?? I took sec+ and A+ in Sept and will probably take all of oct to study for net+.
Thanks for posting this my friend , I’m a tree trimming wanting to join this industry. Feel like it’s very intimating since I barely know anything when it comes to tech or computers other than the basics 😅
@@LOSTGPS same here bro I’m doing my research, to get into cyber security without going to school. So far some people have been able to point me in the right direction.
Congrats on the certs. I've been studying self-taught coding a little bit at a time for years. But I've been thinking of just getting back into IT altogether doing A+ and network stuff. From there, I can always continue my coding studies. Thanks for all the information in this video. I think I will follow it.
Thanks for taking the time. I'm about a month away from taking the exam. Mostly I've been reading Mike Meyers book and writing note cards to test my knowledge. Good luck on your Network +.
Awesome vid sir; glad I found this. This is discussion is exactly what I was looking: concise, relevant, informative. Most other folk just ramble on about obvious stuff everyone already knows, like “make time to study.”
I congratulate you on your perseverance, your excellent method of study and all the advice that you wisely give us. With this methodology you will undoubtedly go very far. I just started preparing for the exam. You earned a subscriber, you're the best. Greetings from Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Hey man great video, I'm using Mike Meyers videos, are the questions similar to the ones in the quiz? Also when you built computers is there cheap parts you reccomend? I want to buy one but Im on a budget.
Very helpful info, I finally saved a decent amount for the test, but might need even less than I thought, was going to buy the $700 bundle but I can probably cut that in half now. Need to study phones and other OS rather than windows. I could effectively troubleshoot anything windows 10- all the way back to 98.
Just passed the 1001 today but honestly I was VERY disappointed in the test. Barely passed with a sad 689 when I was expecting to crush it due to watching the videos by Meyers and Messer, the Udemy vids by Meyers plus practice tests and tips and studying almost a month. The test had literally NO port questions yet was 90% networking, virtualization and laptop troubleshooting questions with barely anything else and practically no PC hardware questions. Felt more like "gotcha" questions instead of testing actual knowledge. But on to the 1002.
@@mre2164 Thank you. Actually come to find out during the test I was super anemic due to internal bleeding somewhere and had lost about 3 pints of blood lol. I'm MUCH better now but should have been in the ER instead of taking a test haha.
Hey congratulations on passing your certification!! I got my A+ certification back in 2019. I want to know what did you do after passing your certification? Did you get a job?
I wanna blow my brains out (not really)! I studied for the a plus this year, and barely starting taking is seriously in August. So I reviewed for the core 1 using professor messer and testout labs. I was fortunate enough to pass on my first attempt. I've waited almost a full month to start reviewing for the core 2, which has fucked me over in the ass so bad, because a lot of the things that I had memorized easily, I have completely forgotten 🤦🏽♂️ I blame it on my lack of self discipline but also due to full time work (physical labor job kicks my ass everyday), and school (in studying network pro in school but I should have just dropped it and studied for the core 2)... Ugh idk where else to vent my frustration but I hope to sometime come back to this comment and tell you guys that I finally passed
"I liked Professor Messer's Udemy course notes so much I bought his book" *Reveals Mike Meyers book* Did you mean Mike's Udemy course, or does Professor Messer have one as well?
Right?!? This is the problem I'm having now. I'm pretty well-versed in wired and mobile devices, but the technical info behind all of this is just SO OVERWHELMING. But I guess it's a good way to weed out those who are serious from those who aren't.
Congratulations! And when you downloaded the different operating system to try out; did you download them to another PC or to the PC that you currently work on?
M J hello :) it’s up to you. I downloaded the trial versions from Microsoft, and the free distro from Linux and just installed them in my Laptop that had VMware. So all on the same laptop, running as virtual machines. So if Professor Messer or a book showed an example on a certain O.S, I would just fire it up and try to replicate what they did. I hope you found this helpful
I work as a CompTIA technician with no studies 😮 I told them I build gaming computers from scratch and I got hired on the spot. now that I got the job I see anyone can do it with out studies. the pay is bad in Texas is $13hr. Currently self learning programming c++ to land a new job
I know this sounds very lazy of me but I have been looking for like a syllabus for a+ and haven't found one. This is my first time and I feel like I'd work better with some guild or directions for every week or something. I know you made your own but do you know where I can find one? I just bought Mike's 1001 and 1002 and I also have messer loaded up for when I'm going to start. This video also helped me a lot
I got CompTIA Security+ first. I am preparing for the 2nd A+ exam, and the only resources I have been using for the A+ is prior knowledge gathered from hobbies and the big A+ all in one textbook. I know a lot about Windows, Linux, and Android systems. However, I don't know anything about Apple systems besides what I have read in the book.
Nice man.! I really needed this vídeo. I am currently finishing the compTIA A+ course by mike myers on UDEMY and I would also watch a professor messer video on RU-vid. The one and only problem is the windows OS. Since I am studying from my MacBook and I have a raspberry pi4 with Linux. I don’t really have any experience with windows os. Do you think downloading a virtual box and install windows in it would be a good idea ?. Thanks man. Congratulations on your cert.
Interesting. I planned on just reading the mike myers book two or 3 times, and watch messers videos all the way through until I consistently ace mike myers practice questions. It seems even that won't be enough ( I have no computer experience).
mooreryo i think you can do it that way too. I recommended making a lab at home with virtual machines just to practice and reinforce what you are learning. But some people have a great memory from watching videos too. Best of luck :)
@@KevtechITSupport Thanks buddy, I appreciate that. I wanted to make more videos, going over the exam topics since passing the A+ and network+ and all but since I haven't found a job yet, I have a bit of imposter syndrome.
My current update is that I passed the Network+ a few weeks ago. And I am currently studying the network+. As far as jobs go I just moved to London recently and started applying to a few places.
Hey I know I'm a bit late but is there any possibility of you providing links to the study guide/person dr messer that you are referring to in the video
Okay guys this is my situation: I just got my BS double majored in Business and CIS. Had an internship, helped run a business club at school. Just received my CompTIA A+ . Had years of customer service experience and can't land a freaking entry level job in the tech or business world. Like what else do these people want from me. Like I can't get more experience without a job or a job with having more experience. How's everyone else doing? Good? Same? Anyways Merry Christmas guys!! IHML :/
congratulations brother. I'm planning on taking my test next month. problem is I really don't have time to study cause I work fulltime and might have to keep a partime job too in order to keep up with bills cause I have nobody to room with. I try to study as much as I can but many times I lose focus and or get distracted. how can I do better
I failed 1001 so miserably today! I was studying it for over six months, the I did study Mike Mayer is book I learn nothing from that, his Udemy video was really good, I did watch professor Maser is videos, I took Mike Mayer is practice exams so many times, o took exams compass so many times, still failed, guys help?
6 months is way too long because you'll start forgetting information and then having to relearn it. Try to set enough time aside every day without distractions to be able to finish your studies within a month for each exam. Ie get the cert within 2 months. I personally haven't taken the Meyers course but the fact that you said you learned *nothing* from it is a tad concerning. Often I hear that his course gives you not only the info you need on the exam, but also stuff that goes beyond the objectives. Try looking at that again and make sure you're actually learning and not just skimming over the material. Doing the same exams over and over again is also likely to cause problems. This is because you're simply training yourself to memorize the questions and answers instead of actually understanding the concepts involved. To combat this, I recommend trying to understand not only why a certain answer is the right one, but also trying to understand why the wrong answers were wrong. If you want more exam material I recommend David L. Prowse's book and Dion's Udemy course Assuming you're still on the ball, don't ever give up!! I know you can do this. Good luck. 🙂
I hope everyone who commented on this video has passed the Exam! Let me know in the comments. I am currently almost done studying for the CompTIA Network+ Exam using all the same teachers plus Jason Dion on Udemy. Anyone else studying for the Network+ as well?
Do you currently have a job working in IT? Were you working in IT while studying for your A+? I'm wanting to get into IT as well, I just have a 4 year General Studies degree and I'm a licensed life and health insurance agent.
One of the most difficult exams I've ever took, nevertheless I am much more confident now, now I am doing the Security + which is so intertwined with the Network +
I'm trying to get the VirtualBox set up, I noticed you said that Microsoft allows free usage of Windows OSs for a month. Is that still a thing? If so, how? Would love a response from anyone who knows if you wanna give some help. Thanks x sidenote: Been dealing with trying to get Windows on Virtualbox but my whole issue is not having an ISO or product key, so I'm trying to get this dealt with so I can study with it.
Did you make those packets? Or can I find them online? Would like to get a copy... I want to get into It field and will follow these religiously lol cuz I’m tired of my current life situation
Would a guy in his 40s who is kind of a beginner to all this be able to learn it? I used to program my Vic 20 with the basic language back in the 80s… But that’s as far as I got.
Hi, hope you are good ! I have a question about your mix and match game ,it looks really interesting out of the boredsome study journey ,Can you please specify it a little bit more ? I'd like to apply it onto my study too ! thanks man .
How do you properly take notes with Mike Meyers Udemy Videos? He goes through a lot of different topics and I write a lot of notes from them but is there a certain way to possibly be more organized? My notes are just summarizations of what he talked about and wrote notes where it shows others wrote notes and it seems to help but any help is appreciated to help organize these notes!
Thanks for the video! One question. Do you read a chapter in the book and find what core objectives it covers, or do you look at your core objectives and go read it in the book? I'm not sure which way I should do it. Thank you
Nevermind, I listened closely. It looks like you read the chapters in order then just marked it on your objectives. And that makes sense to me because you said you need to learn certain things early in the book before you get to the later chapters. Thank you for your video again, it helped a lot.
They gave me a bunch of Networking + tests on my A+ So I failed because I didn't study Networks+ They were in depth questions as well. like how to create the most secure network for jill who wants to add her tablet to her company wifi. They asked me this twice only added different names to the questions and different setups and they had a bunch of little in between networking questions. I studied the networking portion of the A+ book but none of these were on it and none of the materials were in my classes about hot to secure a tablet on a network. I really feel cheated how CompTIA played that out... I would have likely passed if those questions were not present. Further more I felt rushed because they made those questions detailed and asked them first. so my time was dwindled severely in the test. I barely had a chance to look at some of the questions. I studied for 2 days straight before taking the test. I went over all the material needed as well at least once if not twice.
