From the bottom of my soul, thank you very much. You captured me since the start of your Dark soul series and through all your genuines blind playthroughs. From the dark and sad stories with Siegmeyer, to the fucking awesome adventures with Gordon freeman and Aperture Science to the chill and spectacular Spidermans. I say this with such pride in my chest, you're one of the most sincere youtuber/content creator that I ever seen, when approaching blind to a game and it's beautiful. I really love it and it's hard to find on the internet these days people like you. After the terrible year of 2020 and a tragic event that sent me on the hospital, you fill my days with happiness ever since. Now everytime I see you starting a new serie on a videogame I'm interested, I bring pop corns or chips with some drink and stay glued to the screen, enjoying the hell out of it. And now...Hollow Knight...what a better gift for me, if not Hollow Knight. Played...I don't know even anymore how much ahahah xD One of my best favourite games. Really passionate about it and been playing it since 2018, with 400 hours in total. I'm really really experienced with it and always love it to see new people blind diving into it (helped and supported a lot of people and friends online with the game). I see you preceded me about the spoilers. Yeahhh... do you remember the feelings and experiences with the Souls series? It's that, but x1000 stronger. These types of games need the best blind playthroughs as possible or you'll be ruined with certain knowledge. You'll understand but I guess you already figured out. I'm not really really into backseating. I really don't like it. But in case you want some hints, as always without spoilers, just ask and i'll be gladly ready to help. This is the best introduction to the metroidvania genre, you will not regret it!!! And YES my expections of you playing Hollow knight are VERY VERY HIGH!!! Aahahha! I'm really super excited!! At last, unfortunately I can't support you via Patreon for private life difficulties but I know you try as human as possible, to read all comments. I know some people do this on RU-vid, so I'll try to do it too as best I can. Please do not leave any tips, advice or backseating; I wish to avoid spoilers completely, I do not want out of context "make sure you do this/please don't do this/make sure you talk to bugboy69 before you enter the cave of bug" comments ahead of time as I like to go through my playthroughs completely blind. I'd really appreciate you all letting me enjoy this journey through not only my first Metroidvania, but my very special time in this highly recommended game. Hey Mapo, if you're into these types of games, I recommend trying Momodora: Reverie Under the Moonlight. It's short and sweet, so it'll only take a few episodes to complete, but there's also an unlockable impossible mode where pretty much everything one shots you.
@@_holy__ghost Hahah I know. For someone that plays a lot of games, his ‘gamer sense’ can be absolutely terrible at times haha. I’m working on the platinum for this (Pantheon is pain) so enjoying watching him starting out.
This will be great, the fact that this is completely blind in every way possible, is super exciting. You mentioned simple but effective enemy design in terms of the horned charger guy, another really cool design choice is that the beginning crawlers look VERY sharp! It helps to dissuade people from trying to Mario jump everything straight from the beginning. So many beautiful details in this game.
Holy shit, the fact that you put together that Quirell is connected to Monomon because they share a mask literally 10 minutes into the game is unbelievable. I didn't notice that until WELL after completion.
The coolest thing about Hollow Knight to me is how despite being $20, it kept getting free DLC-sized updates for years. I think it's a big part of why it did so well, it kept getting news and sales from that.
@@_syzygy_yeah that sounds so nice. My first was Ori and the Blind Forest and then Hollow Knight so I didn't quite get that experience but it was magical nonetheless!
I can definitely see Mapo going through a bunch of the other great metroidvanias after Hollow Knight. The Ori games would be super cool to see, as well as Axiom Verge.
@@Retro_Rainer Yeah, tbh it's a pretty by the book metroid clone. Still, imo it delivered pretty well on the atmosphere. The nice pixel art, amazing soundtrack and the weird sci-fi vibes come together in it rather nicely.
This is probably the play-through I've wanted the most ever since I spotted Hollow Knight in your intro reel. I love the souls games and all, but experiencing Hollow Knight blind for the first time is an experience like no other. I'd give almost anything to brain wipe the game and experience it again. I can only have the second best thing, which is watching you play it. I am PLEADING with the people in the comments.... don't spoil this game for him.

I hope you enjoy getting lost in this world, because trust me you WILL get lost, especially if it's your first Metroidvania. A first playthrough of Hollow Knight is so special though so I'm glad you're going in completely blind. This is gonna be a longgggg playthrough.

NO WAY!!!!! Dang, I still get chills every time someone reads those opening lines. Welcome to Hallownest. I was wondering if you'd ever get around to this one. Given your appreciation for the Souls series and Little Nightmares, I thought you might enjoy this. Hollow Knight has a permanent spot on my GOAT list. My only advice for you, dear traveler, is explore everything and enjoy the journey.
super metroid & symphony of the night are the specific games that established the 'metroidvania' genre. the former is pretty representative of what metroid is about & serves as a good entry point to the series. castlevania is far less consistent as a franchise, having been many things under many creators. Symphony was something of break from the castlevania games that came before it mechanically, so you can start there, but its story has a lot of references to its immediate predecessor rondo of blood, which is arguably the best and last of old school castlevania style games so it might be worth starting there. If you want to start from the beginning, I recommend the famicom disc system version of metroid one, for its save files instead of pass codes and ability to handle more sprites on screen. while the us version of castlevania 1 is fine, you should look for fan translations of the japanese versions of castlevania 2 & 3. 2 has a famously bad official localization which makes it nigh unplayable without a walk through, while the us version of castlevania 3 was for some reason made much more difficult than the original with more & more obnoxious enemies, making a tough but fair game just frustrating, sort of like the going from ds2 to sotfs. only more of a shame, since unlike ds2, castlevania 3 is a real classic and probably the best of the early run under the series' original creator.
I’m so excited to see your HollowKnight journey!! I’ve played and beaten this game three times and I never noticed the archway with the masks in the room before the temple to the black egg. Your attention to detail is impressive.
I am very looking forward to this playthrough. Your attention to detail when you play through games has always been on point and just with this episode I can tell you'll end up finding a lot of things people can miss out on.
I tried playing this myself a few times and found that I just didn't enjoy the actual gameplay but I keep hearing how good the story is, so I'm glad to be able to just watch your videos to discover that part!

I recommend Celeste as a better game to learn platforming, if you're even interested. It has infinite lives and frequent checkpoints in most areas. Very satisfying game to solve.
I started watching your channel with the dark souls playthtoughs. Hollow knight and outer wilds are two of my favorite games I’m excited to see this play through since you seem to really appreciate the atmosphere of these types of games.

Oh. My God. YES. Thank you so much!! HK was onde of my First Metroidvania games too, but its perfectly doable for a newcomer to the genre. Just be patient with yourself and take your time to adjust to the controls. HK is very much about the journey, and the HK community finds It enjoyable to simply expectate one's Discovery/learning curve. It's like watching a travel vlog haha. No need to rush. I've been in around your channel long enough to be positive that you will love this one.
i feel like the hk community, similar to dark souls's, can be pretty obnoxious. i've seen so many comments on other blind playthroughs that are extremely backseaty and spoilery, all in the name of "the best experience". maybe it's a vocal minority, but that's the picture i got.

I really enjoyed your Dark Souls and Elden Ring (and Mass Effect) playthroughs and I think you'll have a great time with Hollow Knight! It's easily one of my favorite games of all time and it actually served as the game that helped convince me to really try the Dark Souls and other From Soft games in the first place after sleeping on them for so long. Going through this game blind for the first time is truly an experience like few others I can think of, and something I only wish that I could do again. Watching other people experience it blind is the next closest I can get though, so here we are. Anyways, enjoy!!

Man, really reminded me how i first started Hollow Knight. The fact that this indy game is so awesome it deserves (at least in my opinion) to be considered equal with souls games still amazes me. Well, thanks Mapo - hope HK community including myself would avoid spoilers and, as you said, "pressure" - all is good in healthy amount, including passion, but if too much, even such good things can be bad
Your ability to notice and pay attention to detail is amazing. I think you're going to love this game, it's go soooo much to it. I don't think it's technically the largest metroidvania style game, but it's one of the largest. Great video and I hope you have a lot of fun.
