So true... Happened to me once that I got 4 troller builds on my team: a9, gardi, pika all of them with leftover scarf and attack weights and one support (don't remember which) without exp share using rocky helmet, muscle band and float stone
I understand that Leftovers heals... I understand that Rocky Helm hurts an enemy that hits me... I understand that Assault Vest gives me a Sp. Attack shield.... I am Sableye... - Every Teammate on Solo Queue
@@toastman3421it is? All you're basically doing with Sableye is running around collecting aeos energy (which triggers leftovers) and setting up traps with your skill
There is pokemon who are attack and sp. Attack, mainly attacker pokemon are sp. Attacker and all-rounder are attack pokemon, so u have to make emblems as per sp. Attack and attack pokemon
its because in the main line games, a lot of the pokemon have both high special and physical attack. Charizard has 109 Sp ATk and 84 ATk. you would almost ALWAYS run it special, its not for its flame throwers and not its fire punch. Yet unite swapped it
whatever pokemon someone decides to play, one should take the 5 min to find out the specifics for it (for *_THIS_* game). It's not normal for a player base to permanently act like it's such a big ask to learn the bare minimum. Like right now the most played attacker by a large margin is greninja, and way too many players are *_still_* running shell bell on it like it’s Day 1 and there’s no guides or info anywhere.
Switching items around to get an Energy Amp for Meowscarada was what changed my rank going from Ultra to Master. When you stop caring about what the community considers to be "optimal" for a pokémon and focus on making a build that's optimal with the way YOU use your pokémon, it'll make everything easier. Just don't use Special Attack held items on pokémon who is Attack and vice versa. You'll be like if you went in with no held items.
"Optimal" can also mean more than just one setup, especially since most Pokemon have at least 2 distinct builds they can choose mid-match. Meowscarada specifically has a more 'move-based' build with Flower Trick and a more 'auto-based' build with Night Slash and Trailblaze. Both builds are good but some items give more value to one than the other.
Definitely exceptions to this rule. Most auto attacks are physical despite you being a special attacker or not. Namely aurora veil A9 will use attack items , since most of its dps is from its autos.
Yeah it's kinda sad to see that even in the math cord, where the rules explicitly state not to do this, people still share opinions as facts without actual number analysis to support them, and act like one item or set or items *_HAS_* to be run because it's the meta and anything else is sub-optimal.
I've been getting a lot of laughs from my friends by playing support Pikachu. It seems dumb at first, but its actually super fun. I can help my lane partner level and do damage? Yes please! Energy Amp, curse incense, and exp share. Its fun, i promise.
I’m going to try Support Pikachu, as with the Double Thunder build, I’m already playing more defensively so I can try to give more support to my team with these items.
I think it's a major design flaw that the game doesn't make it clearer which Pokemon use ATK vs SP.ATK and doesn't group items based on those stats A first time player shouldn't even have to wonder if Pikachu benefit from Scope Lens or how many pairs of sunglasses Garchomps wants to rock (none) They should also give new players Focus Band, Resonant Guard and Buddy Barrier instead of Leftover and Assault Vest
I know if I’m gonna win or lose a match in solos due to items if we lose and everyone has the right items then it was just simply no one was working together or the other team was just better! Happy to see you trying to help others learn these things it still helps me!
Sometimes you gotta say it out loud because your average multiplayer-players fragile ego wouldn't handle it and it's easy to reflect the blame outwards, at some point you have to reflect on things and *_realize sometimes it's simply a skill-issue and you need to learn the game_* - Mega Mewtwo-brainrot was basically two perfect examples of this, because the characters were so ridiculous that they simply abolished the need for skill as you could literally the play the character with one hand and dominate the game, post the havoc of Mega Mewtwo X & Y meta's most if not all pokemon released were at some point condemned for being bad or underpowered, because they actually required more skill and active input than the Mewtwo duo
Now please get together with all the other Pokemon unite creators and make a complete in depth college course level video on the EXP. Share item so people stop pinging me when I’m trying to help them level up.
That. How often my Lane Partner pinged me and left Lane after i took last Hits its rediciolous. Dude you´re not stacking so it does not matter. Be happy we got the farm and not the enemy Lane. People should really learn that EXP Share on your Lane (preferably on a support or defender) is the best thing that can happen to you. If your partner wont throw your lane is already setup for success.
I posted on the Unite subreddit recently about using Rocky Helmet and people absolutely crucified me. They wouldn't accept that against a team of 5 physical attackers, it actually provided a sizable defense boost (esp early game)
Same with Scald Slowbro into 5 AD. How often my Slowbrows play Surf. Dude you could minimize their damage with scald and be so incredible useful. Sadly most people dont understand such situations.
I've used Bangle Stealth Rocks Crustle, pretty fun. Helps not only team fights but base fights and you can do a surprising amount of damage throughout the match with the ability. I'm sure Snarl Umbreon is similarly effective but I've always preferred Wish.
I run razor claw on Machamp, because of Machop’s bulk up. In early game, using bulk up will give you the extra damage from razor claw, it’s a way to be hyper offensive and punish the enemy team. If you can start stacking, because you won the first lane skirmish that can be huge. I also once saw a razor claw Pikachu and he slayed the whole game. Idk if he was using the razor claw to perma-slow them in-between attacks, but it definitely worked.
yeah on machamp it is very much the standard, so i see no controversy there. as cube pointed out, though, pikachu is ranged rather than melee, so razor claw's slow wouldn't procc there at all. ps- pika's basic attacks & boosted can still crit and they still use the physical atk stat so maybe razor could that way??? A bit too much cooking imho
Leftovers instead of reso guard on defenders is key to ray anti reset meta✨️ stacking/rapid scarf+scope instead of muscle for basic damage hit like a truck🔥 E amp for unite nuke is a must🤞 4 Exp share on team boost exp domination(more exp lvl = more stats)/exp hungry advantage on mons👌
If you're gonna do a bad idea, at the very least understand what the bad idea does and how to make it look like a good idea to those with less understanding. 3:00 Like the 2nd Alolan Ninetales one (of the "Masters") here could be a solid Aurora Veil set. The lack of a spoon is unfortunate but extra safety is neat to have when you don't have the on demand stun and shove of Blizzard. I used to run Exp Share Decidueye before Charging Charm released due to 1, the speed and hp and 2, the ability to powerlevel my lane partner into protecting me as my exp slowly makes itself. Is Charging Charm the better idea? Yeah. But with randos never running share and not even being that good at damage, funny owl with lightbulb somehow made both work. Plus the exp share made the enemy ignore me more (bc "he has a bad item, what's he going to do?") soooo... Yeah. Understand your builds, people.
i agree, bad item is indicator that those players gonna do some maniac things in the game, it's perfectly okay to play "sub-optimal" build, but i also wouldn't expect much from a decidueye using glasses, or more like, i expect them to do some crazy things in the match
Every item has a situation in which it is better than another item, even very meta ones. If you know when that is and how to take advantage of it you can see the game in a different way. Even something like Rocky helmet in some situations is better than focus guard or buddy, its just that the odds of that are similar to finding a shiny haha. Thanks for the name drop Jake look forward to more item shenanigans this year ! Pro Tip Anti heal is OMEGA slept on for most mons !
Exactly! Just let me run Rapid Fire Scarf/7-red Charizard, char is always auto attacking!!! (I know, please don't explain it to me...) Rather than confusion about how certain items work, the place that I actually run into frustration is people picking items that show they don't think critically about their role. Something like potion decidueye shows that they think if they only had a bit more health they could keep fighting. Actually they get charizard united, click potion and die anyways. It's not that big of a deal, but it means that they don't recognize that the weakness of owl is getting dove on or having bad positioning. An X speed or eject button probably would be better for getting out of those sticky situations rather than trying to sit in them.
I completely agree with your point here spragels, I hang out a bit with some people of mathcord and the creator of the unite guide, and despite them telling you what to run they ask you to not blindly follow the guide and go for "what works", they encourage you to read what each item do and test by yourself to understand how it works, thats how I realize how bad some items are heavily need a rework (drain crown, leftovers, rocky helmet, rescue hood) but even stuff like assault vest has a niche in mons I play. Just please dont use physical items in special attackers and viceversa
Fully agree. A meme build I quite enjoy is rocky helmet, resonant guard, cookie on trev with pain split and curse. I just exist to be a hunk of meat in the way of the enemy, to distract them and chip away at anyone that focuses me. My goal isn't to get kills and it sacrifices peels for me back line, but I try to be obnoxious and grab aggro away from back line, and I can do it for a long time. And if I want to get more serious, just swap helmet for focus band
The one that I will constantly argue for is Aeos Cookie over Attack Weight on Flail Snorlax. Because the move scales damage based on your max HP, it boosts your damage about as much as Attack Weight (even exceeding it at some health, especially on Flail+), while also making you much tankier. I mostly argue because I dislike Flailax players who think they're smart, but still...
Thanks. Another Person who understands how to read. So many people wich don´t understand why some items are better with pokemon as other. Flail Lax with EXP Share Cookie and Rapid Scarf was something that worked really well some time ago. Now i play more with my team (heavy slam and yawn works good in solo queue if playing duo heavy barrier might be better) but flail lax was always really strong too.
I think part of the confusion for the diaconnect on the stat items is the MSG moveset for a pokemon can sometimes be a mix of special and physical, so when you look at Ho-Oh, it has fire spin, a special move, and brave bird, a physical move. Of course in Unite a Pokemon's moves are either all special or all physical regardless of the MSG classification.
Stuff like this is why I'm a firm believer in builds like Barrier Psychic Mime. Is it the meta way to play mime? No. It's very much a "play the way is optimal for YOUR playstyle" build; I want to crowd control and set up mages for huge damage via up to 40% special defense reduction. I want to have a powerful zoning ability. But it's something that's worked for me, and when teammates take advantage of the crowd control it outputs it can lead to extremely disgusting matches. Boosted, placing barrier down, the last tick of psychic--which, mind you, can also proc around the barriers--, and my ult all have considerable stuns that are quite easy to land, and psychic's stun can even still go off if I die in a teamfight. I tend to build Green + Black, for the dmg and cooldown reduction. Then, I run Exp Share + Reso Guard + a flex slot where I swap between Buddy Barrier, Focus Sash, and Cursed Incense depending on matchup.
I love to tinker and come up with builds no one else is trying that actually work. I look on Unite-db to figure out the scaling for my abilities and the base stats. For instance, for Water Bear I run Razor Claw and Muscle Band, which are standard, but then I also run Resonant Guard, because it is the single best HP per item value without stacking; the healing part of Rapid Strikes actually scales with max HP, not Atk, so I get a lot of extra sustain from that one item, while the other two do the heavy lifting for damage.
I play 7 yellow 2 green 4 white emblems specifically on Inteleon. Hidden tech, if you’re camouflaged, you get a move speed slow. Yelllow emblems help counteract this slow when out of combat, allowing you to run after or run away from someone who sees you, rather than you being slower and then catching you or out running you. Play what feels good for you and you’ll do better and probably have more fun at the same time!
Yes!! I've been running this too and also promoting it to anyone who'll listen heh So far I haven't gotten any huge pushback but more so just get ignored and it's funny to me when I later see the same people complain about Inteleon's "weaknesses" and "design flaws" when they won't even consider allowing themselves to play around with builds. I also saw someone say they run "normal" emblems (blk & green) but run float stone, and I felt a certain kinship, though I do think just running yellow you sacrifice less sp atk and also, on soloq, no one will know, so people can't get mad that your build is "throwing"
This is the difference between Unite and League in that if you buy something correctly in-game it only means you've bought one item that gives 1-2 passive effects or an activated effect. Unite giving you the option to run three passive effects the whole match is bananas to me but it is just 10 min. The stat boosts and passive upgrades from levels one to thirty are the real diff. In addition to skill.
Very good video. The only reason I run Buddy on Clef is to save my teammates in a bad spot. When my teammate gets low and Moonlight is on CD I just pop ult so save him with the Buddy Barrier. The ult itself is to unreliable for me, so I use this to get value out of it. Prob not the best or meta thing to do. But because I know my build, how it works and when to use it, I can prevent my level 14 Jungler from dying at 02:05.
The biggest, biggest problem with the community is that the game is very bad about giving any kind of feedback. It's hard to know that it's bad to push second goal without a very distinct advantage, it's hard to teach that you need to save your ultimate for Rayquaza, it's hard to tell which of the two objectives is better without being told directly by someone who knows already.
This whole video explains why I'm running Scarf on so many Defenders (Mamo, Wiggly, Umbreon). I lost my faith in Focus Band, not because I think it's a bad item, the opposite is the case. But because it's not really reliable in Solo Q. It is very risky to fight at 2:30 with a FB off cooldown, but sometimes you have to help your teammates, especially as a Defender. And when they are going in at 2:30, you have often no other choice than going in as well. Scarf on the other Hand suits my playstyle, engaging with Moves and then being annoying with auto attacks. With Resonant Guard and Exp Share combined, Scarf gives you a chance to also make some offensive plays.
Switching my Focus Band to Special Attack Specs on Blissey helped me actually get to Master Rank easier and now also win games in Master Rank. Like, I notice that it doesn't matter, Blissey gets essentially one-shot by everything that has a little more power. My Focus Band wouldn't help much there, either. I enjoy sitting a little more in the back and getting those 140k heals per match instead now
Its not depending only being good... this is a team based game, if you have a team thats not playing the game doesnt matter how good you are, you not winning, if you getting people that keep playing bad choosing only attackers or speedster or dont partecipate activly in team fight when your team mates have to, doesnt matter how hard you try. This is also why some of the game are really frustrating. As long you pick items correctly (in basic way), doesnt change the end all much. The major critisism i give to the players is NOT looking the map and the allies HP, not even having the perfect vision by moving the camera with the LB button (if you're switch unless is the other one. Its confusing the name of this buttons when you play multiple console XD) but at least watching the map that is so much simple and easy to do. Just by doing this gives you a better understanding on how you have to move into the game and is already MASSIVE. In any game you have to know how you have to play the game, for be considered good... obviously the be better and understanding the game you need the will to learn and of course playing the game a lot (getting experience with it).
and some people still don't even know how some pokemon power spike/scaling work they just kept go in to useless fight and died on cd. Ex your jungle Scizor that died at 1st gank gave double buff to enemy and end the game at lv11
Drain crown syncs with feith (13th lvl) giving more healing than usual and very quickly keeping you alive more than before.Apple is actually a bad choice here.
The affirmation is appreciated! 😅I'm of the "let 'em cook" mentality, because a wild build could always surprise you. I AM guilty of second guessing myself after a series of losses, though I'm confident in my build exexcution. This game does weird things to the brain lol
I tend to use float stone on metagross and ceruledge which aren't common on these two. Due to it being the the highest attack increase on an item and getting around more often. Im confident this is a good build
My most maniac build that I have full understanding of is max move speed azumarill with attack weight. You can outrun anything with play rough and it’s constantly up so you can move around the map at insane speeds and if you play it right from the beginning you can constantly steal enemy exp and get a massive amount of kills. I’ve snowballed so many games this way and hit level 15 only 4 minutes plenty of times. This works well to climb up to master but beyond that it’s not a great idea.
Float stone Charging Charm Xp Share Dodrio with 7 yellow 4 white emblems +245 emblems drill peck agility. Its a harasser support when played this way. Similar to Sableye but instead of walking up to stun you use your speed to flank and hit the enemies into or away from your team. I have a 60% winrate with this and am currently 1602 Masters. This is not a optimal build but it clearly demonstrates your point. Items don't really matter Its how you use them that matters.
I just won a game as an Exp Share jungle Umbreon. For some reason, no one wanted jungle and I didn't have time to switch to a weight or basically anything else that would have provided more value. When I ganked and did the defender thing, soaking up damage, disrupting enemy movements, etc., then I would run back to jungle. I don't recommend that.
I agree 👍🏼 Also they should give shellbell 210 HP instead of SpAt and make the heal based on missing HP instead of SpAt and the item would actually be a good item.
I would love if they made it where ATK items are grayed out for SP. ATK mons and vice versa, I think it would help out new players a Lot by giving them some knowledge on held items!
On Pokemons who can regenerate their health with their passives just like Umbreon and Ho-oh, I always use Leftover so that I would not go back to the base and catch-up during team fights
you forgot to mention that held items could also be diffrent depending on the moves you want to pick with your pokemon. For example 3:10 that Muscle, Rapifscarf and Fokusband build is a good build for Alola Ninetales if you play Aurora Veil and Dazzling gleam. also that build is mostly played with Red emblems. see? playing Veil & Dazzling gleam with Specs , Shell bell , wise glass is troll in this case cause you can't utelize the power of the veil boosted autos to the max. or take decidueye your held items depend on the fact whether you play Spirit shackle or Razor Leaf. the first one is played with Muscle , Floatstone , attack weight cause you just want to maximize your Spirit shackle Damage. while the Razor leaf build requires crit and attackspeed like Muscle, Scope Lense and Rapid scarf/ charging charm depends on what you prefer. it really depends on the Moves you intent to use which items are the most usefull to you.
Exp Share Greninja is the best example about the topic in this video. People thinking EXP share works like in mainline games (prior to Gen 6) where the pokemon thayt holds it gain more experience even if they dont participate in battle. Unite dont seems to bothee to teach new players about this
The real answer is the Pokemon company needs to invest more in their video game franchise. One piece bounty Rush has more characters despite there being 1025 Pokemon already in existence with a better overall understanding of how they work. Plus defenders need more dedicated items. Let’s get some items that make defense more important on defenders or items that replace exp share and contribute more to the team because exp share won’t benefit you at all if the team is bad. Let’s fix matchmaking so there aren’t 5 people trying to play the same role and throw the game when they have to switch because we don’t have enough variety to make us go “oh I actually like that support pokemon. “ The entire game franchise is based on collecting them and having more choices yet unite feels extremely limited and I think that throws a lot of the poke fans off. We need a king of the hill game mode where the goals depend on standing there for longer periods of time and capturing them instead of points. There so much potential I think that throws a lot of people off the game when nothing is really done. There’s no reason to improve when these “carries” get squashed in a ranked match and play bots in a casual match to feel like they aren’t the problem. There’s too much ego inflating out into the game to make people actually feel like they aren’t doing something right and actually learn what they need to do.
A lot of the trainers just copy builds from yt and other websites and etc not knowing how the items work, like there's nothing wrong with coping Just know and understand on how the items work instead of coping blindly and expecting to get good games that's why your changing builds the whole time like for example I use Scarf, Muscle and Lens for Greninja, Scarf would help with my basic attack speed while lens will increase the crit rate therefore the faster i attack the the more I get critical dmg as simple as that, this video is very important for people that don't understand how items work.
You know... Good points in this video. ... If you run Rocky Helmet on most Pokemon or opposite stat items, I'm still gonna groan with "Oh my god this idiot" energy. You can not convince me that Weakness Policy + Attack Weight + Score Shield is going to get you MVP on your Sweet Scent Comfey.
I think the TRUE problem is, the people who do have ZERO idea on how all the items work and how the pokemon works, most of em are extreme casuals and NEVER do the research and never see this video and correct their mistakes and they just dont care
Razor Claw Deci used to be the go to. Using a Shackle into a RC proc basic does a lot of damage and can burst people down. People never used that correctly though. Now there are clearly better items but I used to swear by RC as the best 3rd Deci item after Weight and Muscle.
Has anyone else noticed the dodrio bug, where his stomps are Super loud when running with a full sprint gauge? It's definitely not normal but idk if it's just me experiencing it or if it's an ingame bug.
@spragels yeah I know, dodrio is my favorite pokemon to play in unite but it really makes me play worse when I hear that annoying sound all game, plus if I'm nearby other players they hear it too so my teammates don't want me to play it either 🤣
Imo items are not that important because of the % of impact vs. leveling up. With 1 more level, the stats and damage increase out performs any item or emblem boost. That's why it's more important to know when to join fight, when to run so you die less, kill more, get more exp, and have a level advantage.
I still think EXP Share is a must have on Support and Defender. It will not only change how active you have to be farming (and probably missing the Teamfight cause of that) you will also help your Laner to get Level up faster and get a Lead in your Lane over the Opposing Lane if they don´t run it. Sure you need to get your Laner to play a bit like a Human but i think you´re setup to win more if you do what your role is supposed to do. May be that some Damage Builds on Supports and Defenders work, but guess what the Damage Build might be even better on a Pokemon that´s Designed to deal Damage. Personally i think good Support and Defender Players are the real Giga Chad´s and MVP´s of every Game, bcs they can often decide how the Game is played more than most other roles. But i really like the course youre taking. Please teach People more how to play the Game. We all just can grow from that as a Community. (Ranked System should be reworked non the less...)
Try crit Gengar. The dream eater boosted attacks can crit. Actually does good damage, like consistently 100k+. Use both crit held items scope and claw, last item can be whatever you like spoon, shell, specs, band, anything works. Then go max crit in emblems, gives me 13% chance to crit at lvl 1
Main line series pokemon games have such difficult mechanics to understand specially in-battle stretagies still is big franchise and has pretty big e-sports cummunity but they made this games so casual
Leftovers at least is a niche item that works on a handful of pokemon. You can play it on Snorlax, Sableye, Wiggly, Safeguard Blissey or even Comfey. Assault Vest is a hit or miss item that only works in draft when you know that the enemy team plays a lot of sp. Atk pokemon. Rocky Helmet on the other hand truly is the single worst item in the game. There is never a reason to play it over any other item and for the most part it won't even proc properly. I don't know why they only made Assault Vest similiar to it's mainline game's counterpart but came up with something completely different for Rocky Helmet.
When I revealed my current Snorlax Build, people were mad. Buddy Barrier, Resonant Guard, Aeos Cookie with High Health Boost Emblem. Had a higher WR ever since I made this change on my Snorlax. Block, Resonant Guard, and Buddy Barrier made my Carries and Lane Partner much tankier. It was fun for my experience.
The thing that is slowing down most matches is the squishy attacker/speedster playing front line like he a defender or tanky all rounder. Just giving exp away to the enemy because he has to push with the most squishy thing and ping thank you because he is dieing.
I've gotten comments when I use rapid fire scarf on A9, venu and mamo. I do it because each one provides CC on their boosted attack and the RFS provides almost back to back immediate stuns Am I cringe?
BASED. Scarf is 100% meta on both ninetails & venusaur - usually w/ dazzling gleam + aurora veil and giga drain + petal dance, respectively (as those moves synergize well w/ atk. speed builds) - so whoever’s questioning scarf there is fully in the wrong. That said, a9’s and venu’s other move sets do usually perform better w/ builds focused more on maximizing sp. atk as this leads to overall better dmg output, but scarf still viable even then. As for mamo, hey. If it works, it works!
If spragels saw a ho oh (masters) example set He would absolutely CRY It’s fricking all special attack increasing items!! Like there’s no argument for it
ok really leftovers has only 2 uses i can think of 1: sableye(dont think i have to explain) 2: defenders at the first 2 minutes of the game when your laner takes all the berries when at 90% health
I'd rather say it isn't the build, it is how you play the pokemon, it is mostly how you play the pokemon, I can run an extremely bad build greninja and still come up on top and pick up a huge amount of KO. Or I could just play with 0 build and still being able to clutch the game.
I hate that this hasn't been talked about sooner. Have you / would you consider making videos that help break down what exactly these items are really doing?
Yessss love this video and fully agree. As someone who plays some “weird builds” according to others but does well with them I support people adapting their builds to their play style.
I understand your point, but I disagree when we're talking about leveled ganes. It's like whb you do pkmn tier lists. If you are better than the opponent, your shell bell Gengar may win, but if everyone is in a similar level, your gardevoir reeeeeally needs your Mime to use Exp Share. Of course there is not ONE right build for every pkmn, but I believe there is a range. There are some itens that may work in some playstyles and chosing them properly can be a huge differential.
Can you do a stacking guide? Always when im not getting at least 3 stacks early I either focus to much om trying tp get stacks and end up inderleveld or I get barely any value from the items because I stay at like 1 or 2
The mainline pokemon gamers won't see any problem running Leftover and Rocky helmet. Those items are decent in mainline games, but trash in Unite. And the Devs dont even care to teach new players about this
