Thank you for the review. I brought both the universal shade and shade number 8. I experienced a little pilling when I first tried the universal shade but I found it was me applying it wrong. When I used my fingers and patted it in I got no pilling at all. And I did do all of my normal skin care prior to using the universal shade. As far as shade number 8 When I used my elf buffing brush it worked a lot better it melted into my skin so seamlessly. I do know that a little goes along way. And again I did all of my normal skin care including using my Charlotte tilbury magic serum and I had no problems with the blurring balm powder at all. At first I was going to return shade 8 Because I thought I looked way to orange but that was due to me using way too much and using the wrong brush. So With that being said, I found it you use your fingers and Pat it into your skin it works perfectly and that is with the universal shade. But I let it dry down for about two minutes before going in with my foundation and it also kept skin oil free all day and I didn’t have to refresh my makeup not one time and my foundation did not break down at all. As far as shade number 8 it works really well if I Pat it in or use my elf buffing foundation brush which is a very dense brush. I personally love this product and I am glad I got it. Thanks for your review on the product. BTW I Am a new subbie and your makeup came out absolutely gorgeous and the eyeshadow look is stunning.
I tried the Pat Macgrath foundation at Sephora and found that shade 19 looked really good on me, but the D.M balm powder in shade 7 matched me perfectly, so decided to take that one. I LOVE the balm powder, it blew me away How skin like it felt and looked, while the color match was spot on. I couldn’t believe it. The P.M foundation in #19 had a slight orange undertone, unfortunately, but I did like the finish for everyday wear. Looked like skin, also, so I was disappointed I was unable to find a medium tan shade with a true golden or neutral undertone in that foundation.
I appreciate you showing the complete process of application and it was great hearing your indepth thoughts. It did look like it blurred and the #7 did even out your hypopigmentation, which I honestly never noticed before because your skin is so beautiful. I love your eye look and the lippie! You know I love a bold eye and a bold lip 💜
I see where this fills a gap in complexion products. Most of the tints are dewy. Setting powders have lighter coverage than powder foundations, but can be drying. This seems like a nice in between. I'm a light-med coverage powder foundation wearer who would use this for more coverage as I don't like using PF for full coverage. I think the 7 did a good job of balancing your under eye area with the rest of your face and looked natural.
I'm actually considering this as a good concealer (more in a highlighting sense then actually concealing) because I don't usually want something heavy because my eyes water and I like to use my hands.
That interesting!! Do you think because it is mattifying you may have issues with it making your undereyes top dry? I was a little worried about bringing it too high up.
I bought the balm and I feel the same as you… I was like what’s the point 🤷🏾♀️. However, I’ve never tried it as a primer. I think I’ll give that a shot.
It’s really good as a primer if you have oily skin and you need ur makeup to last ALLLLLL day. But it’s definitely not an everyday primer for me. But overall that’s the best use I’ve found for it
I love it, I have the same shade and use it daily like a like foundation. I’ve never experienced pilling but I also use a dense brush and more so stipple it in.
I'm loving the look (especially the eyes 🤩). I'm glad you did this video since I've been super curious about the DM balm but as an oily-combo skinned woman too, I get skeptical about balms. Especially a matte balm! I'm nervous about the peeling, but I like the result.
Thank you!! It’s definitely a unique product….I’ve been using the universal shade a lot as a primer and it really helps control oil. The tinted one isn’t my fave and I rarely tech for it. I won’t repurchase it but I can definitely see myself repurchasing the universal shade especially during the summer. I only wish there was more product for the price
I think the product is confusing as well. I will probably just use the universal as a primer cause it seems to be hard to work with. The eyelook is gorg...can't wait to see that video.
Check out my dragonfruit video before this one!! I think you'll enjoy the universal as a primer. So far everyone (including myself) really love using it that way
Curious? Did you try it with another moisturizer and still have pilling? I didn't have that happen at all! I agree with you, this really doesn't work well over products, which is disappointing because that was one of the big draws for me. I'm wearing my skin shade today with a lightweight concealer and lots of cream blush and loving the look. I'm definitely linking your vid in my d box so people can check it out! 💜
I tried it with one other moisturizer and didn't really experience pilling which was better....I want to try it with a few more to see if I can pinpoint what types of products it doesn't/doesn't work well with.
I definitely though of the elf putty primer....but make it matte. The interesting thing about this product is the longer you wear it the more matte your makeup seems to get.
Oh no, I wonder why you got the pilling!! Your overall look is gorgeous, as always. I looovvveee everything about this face you are servviinngg! I’m sorry you didn’t love it the way I do lol I definitely prefer it by itself or as a primer and not to set foundation. I wonder how it wore on you the rest of the day?
This is the first peeling video I’m seeing, but very helpful! It’s interesting that it didn’t continue to peel with the foundation…. I also wonder if you allow the products to sit 1-2 minutes between layers? I normally allow products to settle in/dry for 1-2 min with a fan in between layers bc I think the products work and look nicer that way…. Just a tip.
My morning skincare routine is (1) Clinique moisture surge hydrating serum (2) Dapsone - prescription acne treatment (3) sunscreen (Supergroup Play) and (4) Rephr moisturizer. I think the sunscreen may be the culprit - it's not my fave because it doesn't really sink into the skin nicely.
@@iamjamila cool, yes I do a serum (Ordinary), spray(sometimes and any brand just to add in more moisture), moisturizer (NOW, CT, Body Shop, Clinique… I rotate through depending on my skin needs), and sunscreen but I’ve had to play around with my sunscreens bc they can give terrible flashbacks, tints, or bubbling/peeling… The Korean/Japanese sunscreens are the best(not surprising)… currently I use Shiseido or Anessa…. I really love my La Roche-Posay but I literally can’t wear anything with it…
@@iamjamila what makes you put the sunscreen on before the moisturizer? When I was researching they told me to do the opposite, so I’m just curious if I’m doing the steps in the right order….I’ve always wondered what order I should put my moisturizer in relation to sunscreen…. I I will say that since I’ve been doing my moisturizer and sunscreen afterwards, I have experienced a lot less of bubbling/peeling. But we also have different skin types, so that probably factors into it as well & why I continue to do it this way. But I’m just curious what reasoning you might have/what the benefits could be?
@@iamjamila This is the real struggle… lol wear sunscreen they say, and then they don’t provide anything suitable.😂😂😂😂😅😅😅 fortunately I live in Asia, so I’ve tried a ton of different sunscreens and found a few good ones that I know are carried in the states, so I’ll keep using them.
The oil control is really great....I should have updated with a wear test but what I can say is the longer I wore it...it almost seems like the more matte it became. Upon first application you don't really see it too much but after 15/20 mins you really notice the magnifying effect.
Thanks for the tip about the purple lippie, I was able to snag it for 7 dollars . It is gorgeous on you. Thanks for a great review, I think I will pass on this balm powder bronzer combo product.
Danessa demonstrates it by stamping it in with a dense brush like the one you used to apply as powder. I really hate pilling and didn’t even consider it would do that if you don’t apply in a very specific way.
The Danessa balm powder is not marketed as a simple cream to powder product so naturally people are confused by the way the owner has described the product and it’s uses….I’ve used several cream to powder products and the texture of Danessa powder is not the same….it also wears differently throughout the day than other cream-powder products I’ve used.
@brianspence7479… Im inclined to agree with your statement. The cream to powder says what it is to me. I’m new to makeup, but I understood it to mean that although it’s creamy in its pre apply state, it will end up feeling like a powder.
@@iamjamila about how many hours pass until you get oily, all over, again [after applying]? Based on the review from Thrift Thick, its not 8-16hrs. Its less. Can you touch up/blot with it? I like matte mineral sunscreens for priming the tzone. I dont use them as my sunscreen because they make makeup look heavy, but as a primer on the tzone they are helpful. They are very absorbent. I would love to see a wear test comparing matte mineral sunscreens, regular matte primers, and powder balms. Maybe nothing works longer than 3 hours.
@@tedoymisojos I found that the Danessa balm powder did last up to 12 hours for me. The longer I wore it the better my face looked. It’s my summer time go to. I also make sure my skin is super hydrated and moisturized when using it because if you over correct on mattifying your skin it’ll produce more oils to compensate. Another trick I’ve learned over the years is to set your primer with translucent powder before applying foundation
@@iamjamila AHHH 🇹🇹 🥰 I'm Guyanese 🇬🇾 my boyfriend is Bajan and for a second I swore you gave off a little of that Irish accent. I understood you fine so I shouldn't have guessed so then haha
