This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. I am the Mars generation...this phrase transmits everything you are about to hear in this speech. Magnificent Alyssa, surrounded by her own passion and driven by a very big goal, is sharing with us not only her dream, but her biggest upcoming achievent, the challenge to be the first human being on the Mars.
Since she was three years old, Alyssa wanted to fulfill her dream of being an astronaut. Alyssa is in the 7th grade at Baton Rouge International School, where she studies all her subjects in 4 different languages. On October 9, 2013 she became the first person to complete the NASA Passport Program, going to all 14 NASA Visitor Centers in the US. She has appeared in several tv shows, been written up in numerous newspapers and magazines. Alyssa wants to be one of the first humans on Mars.
About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

To answer some of the questions, Alyssa was taught time management at an early age and a lot of her piano, ballet, etc is done at school as well as the 4 languages are taught in all subjects at school. She has earned her own achievement through hard work, scholarships from writing essays, making sacrifices for her dream. The speech was written mostly by her with others polishing it up but it is all her message. Lastly to those you don't see the excitement, she had just turned 13, this was her first BIG presentation to 2000 people and she probably had jet lag as we traveled for almost 24 hours to get to Kalamata and went right to rehearsal and her speech started around midnight local time. She was probably a little tired. :)

There are many less fortunate kids out there who would love an opportunity while pursuing their dreams to have it all paid in full. This future Astronaut (girl) happens to be a fortunate one. Her Dad happens to be a former Astronaut. Nice She young and is pursuing her dream of living on Mars. This Rich girl👧 is getting all her schooling, programs and training paid for in full by companies who have made an investment in all her future endeavors.

Alyssa should inspire the next generation of space exploration. Lack of excitement in her tone is just stage fright.

Joyce Dooley She is just 13 or 14, and it's not that easy to speak in front of hundreds of people, she will learn everything eventually. We should support her. Carry on Alyssa :)

Her life is so full of things, all those sports, activities and schools and colleges? And she can still be social with friends? I'm curious how her agenda looks like (I mean there 24 hours in one day and she still has to sleep).

You are a dreamless moron. People like you were afraid and grumpy, while other made fire, casted iron or invented engines. A humanity consisting of people like you would still live in caves.

@@abrahamwilberforce9824 i feel like you think everyone has the money to be going to university and be able to learn many languages
@abrahamwilberforce9824
@abrahamwilberforce9824 4 года назад
@@Phoenix-jb6gf Well, I live in Germany and here are systems in place, that give you the opportunity to learn multiple languages and get a university or craftsmanship education. Basically if you are GenX and younger it is expected that you at least speak English and as kid you definetly get the chance to learn it. I went to a regular 0815 public School for 12 years, and I learnt English, Latin and Spanish of which in English I am fluent. And I am now studying physics since oktober 2018 at the Ruperto Carola university in Heidelberg, which is among the top 50 universitys for studying physics worldwide, and it costs 170€ per semester for tuition. So bite me. And by the way, my country spends the same amount of money (relative to its GDP) on space exploration as does the US. So it is not 17 yo girls exploring new frontiers holding the world back.
