I tried to only eat ultra-processed foods for for two weeks... and I failed again... badly! TikTok / gavin.wren Instagram / gavin.wren Facebook / gavinwrenfoodnews
this is insane because i’m vegetarian so i often eat ultra processed alternatives and i’m looking around my kitchen and almost everything is UP, so many of my symptoms mirror yours too
Don't be afraid of natural plant proteins. A lot of new vegans and vegetarians believe you can't get complete proteins from natural plants, but as long as you're eating a variety of protein sources, you'll get more than the recimmended amount of essential amino acids. Just google "amino acid calculator" and you should find a few websites that will help you figure out which combos work. Rice and beans is a classic. I like lentils, split peas, oats, tofu (technically processed but not ultra processed, I believe), tempeh (same as tofu), various seeds, and various nuts. Eat a few of those every day and you'll be good on amino acids.
No people do feel like shit they dont know what feeling good feels like, they think thier shit diet is normal feeling and its not. Most people have never ate healthy to know what feeling good is like
Would love to see an update on mood, physical strength and energy after stopping your ultra processed diet, was it back to normal immediately or take some time?
I felt the craving for fruit and veg when I went to Disneyland Paris for 4 days last year. No fruit or veg for days and when I got home, the first thing I said to my partner when we got home 'I want something with veg in for dinner asap'
Had the same experience in America staying in a hotel. Dennys for breakfast every day, lunch out on the go, dinner out at steak houses or lobster houses. By day 3 I was nauseous and desperate for something healthy. I had to ask at Dennys for something off menu because they don't serve anything without excessive fat, salt and sugar 😆
Happy to watch this long video.Really better than watching a hour long episode of reality show.😂 You got me thinking about what I eat and how if affects me. Thank you for this, great content. ☺️
I have been eating as clean as I possibly can, with a weekend cheat meal, which usually means going out for dinner at a restaurant with family and friends. And then one time, I was at a friend's house and decided to really go all out with the fast food. Fried chicken, fries, coke, biscuit. I physically felt ill, and wanted to close my eyes and have a panic attack. It was like being poisoned as a wave of negative energy was running in my bloodstream. And I used to absolutely love fried chicken. It was still absolutely delicious. But I would never let myself get through that again. And that was 1 meal. The fact that I used to eat like that all the time when I was young is insane.
Gavin, really great video. Glad you posted this. Made me think about the food I eat and how it impacts my mood. I'd love to know more about your diet, maybe some easy good meals that are healthy for lunch. Also a video on huel would be interesting, drinking only huel, pros and cons from your perspective, and don't worry, you'll get money from videos soon, just takes one viral video!
For the lack of fresh vegetables, couldn't you have made a salad, but then added a UP dressing? Similar to how you managed to get around the coffee, by adding soy milk?
1. Initial buzz of energy 2. Buzz starts to fade 3. Brain fog sets in, body starved of proper food 4. Energy levels plummet 5. Crash and burn. THE END And these were my results. See how similar they are to yours. ☺️👌🏻
In my opinion, if you always eat healty or you diet is full of good stuff, upf hit you harder. At christmas holidays i spent few days(maybe five) with shitty stuff like a worst candys, cola and salted snacks. I increased two kilograms extra and at my face start to born spots and i feeled like lazy gecko on the sun. Also this is insane when you calculate that you eat ice cream or sweets who have 1000 calories and 30 minutes later you are hungry. 1000 calories is a full bowl of kasha, turkey breast and white bean in tomato sauce who fill my for several hours
I see your stuff on TikTok all the time and always enjoy watching it. Just seen this pop up on my YT feed and loved the video. Don’t watch many long videos but made an exception for this 😊 As someone with a job, kids etc time is limited but I find myself purging on a weekend where I have more time to drink and eat crap. Monday - Thursday I pretty much eat the same thing (yoghurt raspberries, chicken and spinach, then something home cooked for tea) and I feel great Thursday eve. Just can’t seem to take it fully through the weekend!! Actually find myself craving something ultra processed!!
Looks like the additional calories came from your drinks. You are so right about all carbs coming with fat. Traditional diets use plain carbs like rice and boiled tubers or noodles as a basis on which they put their stir fry or stews. Even bread would be used to soak up juices rather than used alone and spread with fat. I eat a lot of SE Asian foods. They have the formula down pat.
Found this very interesting. It's made me quite conscious of what I'm eating & how it might be affecting my mental & physical health. Definitely 'food' for thought 😊
I felt so sorry for you I was shouting at the screen stop please stop !!! I'm a tiny vegan do have a small amount of processed foods (plant milk yogert the odd burger or sausage)but I need proper bread plenty of salad veg fruit nuts seeds grains beans if I tried what you did I would be ill and starving!!!!
Funny how you only "tried" the no ultra-processed foods challenge but didn't fail this one, aw. ETA: Basically, it's impossible for a human to eat like a human, but it's extremely easy to eat ultra-palatable mushy starches and chemicals made in a lab
The “healthy” ultra-processed foods may not be anywhere near as bad as some other ultra processed foods but relative to less processed food and home cooked versions of the same foods they’re trash. Tescos unsweetened almond milk for example has 0.7g of added salt per serving. Considering that most people in developed countries have a salt intake that endangers their health it’s clearly a product that should be avoided by most.
I am finding it hard to understand why someone like you who is healthy, happy, and has a full good life would put yourself through this?!? Stop and be thankful for what you have!! I am just starting to cut out sugar-----as much as I can. Sugar is in pretty much EVERYTHING! And the white sugar is very processed and not good for the body, mind and soul. Look at this world! So many obese people, diabetes is off the charts!! We are dying younger than we were intended, while we are here. A lot of people are walking around like zombies due to no or low level energy levels. I can't even think about the children and what they eat daily. A huge regret of mine is not being more regimented with my children's diet, and mine now that I think about it!! I am getting depressed now, I will get over it in time. I am a bit nervous for my future of greatly reducing my sugar intake. I will be doing a lot of praying and using self control I know that!! God bless you for posting this video, it was very informative!
A lot of it will be the gut bacteria you have. If you have a diet like this for a while, they will have adjusted to process what you've eaten. Going from a diet with minimal to then the maximum, will be a disaster for the gut bacteria.
I have lived next to a McDonalds for eight years. I have been in once for a big shit. I believe that brown trout had more nutrients left in it than a "happy" meal.
