I ATE at The Best BRITISH Fish & Chip Shop in BENIDORM and was SURPRISED! There are 3 Rays Chippies in Benidorm, but only one of them is still owned by the original owners. Rays 2 is owned by June who was one of the original Parters and has a secret that makes her fish and chips the best British Fish & Chips in Mainland Spain. Iris who's been working there for years is passionate about her batter, it's not just a job to her but a way of life. This batter is so crispy that when you bite into it you can probably hear it back in the UK. If you are a regular to Benidorm then you will have heard of Rays Chippy. This is the only British Fish and Chip shop to visit when you are on holiday in Benidorm. If you are looking for the best places to eat when you are on holiday in Benidorm then make sure you visit Ray's 2.

Oh, also Lee if you happen to wish to try any Indian Restaurants in Benidorm there are 3 I would recommend, you have the Clay Oven by The Hotel Presidente, you also have the Curry Leaf which is on the end of the AV Del Mediterraneo main road, there was one on the British Strip called The Cinnamon Lounge however I don't know if they are still open anymore, I don't think they were last time we visited however hopefully they've reopened since. I was first in Benidorm around 1965, then my second visit was 1999. That was the only Winter Sun holiday I ever had (November/December) and ideal weather for Fish & Chips. We stayed in the Hotel Minerva (which may no longer exist) and there was a highly recommended Chippy just around the corner. They had blackboards all over the walls with every item on their menu clear to see. One evening a "smart Alec" asked for something that was NOT listed - Chip Butty & Chips. Next day there it was on the blackboards 🙂 And they did a lovely cup of coffee.

The batter is the most important part to me, and I have to agree it looked (and sounded) PERFECT. The chips looked great too, crispy on the outside and soft inside. I can't comment on the extras as all I ever have with fish n chips are pickled onions, ketcup, salt n pepper. Well done, Iris,, and I can't give it less than top marks.

Just came back from Benidorm we went to Rays 2 and i can say it is the best fish and chips i have ever had and yes it was hard to finish it but i had to it was Fantastic meet iris and june great to talk to. and a man i think was steve that i didnt see i hope i have his name right a big thank you too all behind the scenes and it should be a 10+

The other Rays is next to the Duke of Wellington opposite Country Ribs, we have spent some time there and the Scampi & chips were Ace. The other one is up on the campsite but we’ve never made it to that one. We’ll give Rays II a 10 as well.

Maybe curry sauce with fish and chips started as a South of England thing? My late wife and I often had fish and chips or battered sausage and chips with curry sauce back in the 90s (when it truly was a cheap meal) from a chippy in Wantage, Oxfordshire. Gravy on fish and chips is definitely a Northern thing although as a Southerner I admit to liking gravy on the fish.

Great Vlog, Rays in the old town, was the original Rays, being run by Juan and Theresa, not sure if still there, but I always had the Cod special no 1. The Balcon/Castle ruins near the tapas streets in the old town is beautiful. Dove Park etc.

Hey Lee! What a gorgeous beautiful day over there! Sun is shining brightly enough to lift anyones spirits. Love the main strip. That really does remind me of Blackpool except it’s warmer weather. Gorgeous fish and chips. That would be enough chips for me as the fish is large enough on its own. Love the peas but I’m put off a bit by the curry sauce. Had a skin on it. Nice fresh bread and butter to make a butty. Give it an 8.5 due to that. Take care 😘👍🏻

Agreed: the fish portion size combined with the best batter more than offset fewer chips. The scissors was a nice thoughtful touch. A great business is same as a Casino - keep the punters happy and comfy and they'll stay and spend more money! 😆👍

I love the science of a chip butty. Maclee, another cracking video. Curry sauce, I have never ordered curry sauce with my fish and chips. However, I have noticed friends have started to order curry sauce with their fish and chips. As DJ would say, "I'm good." I'm seriously considering visiting Benidorm for the spring or summer. Since I can't afford the Caribbean or a five-star hotel this year. I forgot to mention the great view of the Pyrenees from the last vlog. 9 out of 10 fish and chips.👍

Was initially surprised to see the same cod, haddock fish menu. Suppose I shouldn't be because it's only a short haul flight away (although a long swin for a little fish). When you get down to Australia, please try blue eyed trevalla as a fish. More texture, more taste if done properly. Just my opinion as a long term Brit export to Oz and still miss propper greasy chippies...

Hi Lee went here 3 years ago, not easy to find on Google maps but we agree that it deserves 10 as it was superb, only one fault and its that step which they have put hazard tape on so just need to be careful, Ray's I in the old town is also fantastic when we went there as well, not many fish and chip shops serving pints and bottles of wine 😀 👍 😉 👏
