Came here for this comment. Oregon resident; Cali before crossing into Oregon gets decent rain. Mostly dry in the south through crater lake in the summer. But up north is wet... Id get a new tent or try to seal it :/

Hoped to see a correction on PCT rain: we got 4" of snow yesterday on the PCT on Mt Hood, added that to the 168" base. Similar issues all along the Cascades form Bend north to Canada.

Just my personal preference: my favorite PCT thru hike video had no music. I found the sounds of the trail and the crunch of the hiker’s steps to be very satisfying.

I have the six moon designs lunar solo, one night of rain to wet snow minimal condensation. One night of rain no condensation. One night 26 degrees no condensation. Love the tent.

@@memathews Me too once the mossies are done. Nice having shelter and rain gear for 12 oz total. I use a Skyscape Trekker when real bad weather or mossies are still likely.

I purchased the One from GG because I wanted a lighter tent. The tent and floor are 1800mm in waterproof and the material is 10D ripstop. It is a nice tent but after using it three times I noticed pinholes developed. I went back to my Tarpent Bowfin 1. It is heavier but you can put it up in the rain without getting water in it. It only takes one pole to set up and make it freestanding. Also you can adjust the floor from 30 inches to 50 inches and you have two vestibules. It has a top vent and two vents at the head and foot.

That forest looked awesome all greened up … and the rhododendrons blooming … The tent looked like it was pitched too high so the wind can whistle through the vestibules carrying the rain along with it … i’ve done the same with my Lanshan 2 which is a similar tent … try lowering the poles by 50-75mm (2-3”) … should stop the rain getting in …. good luck on the PCT deffo be following along 👍👍

Exactly why I got rid of GG The One. The condensation management is terrible. In any rain, the condensation will rain on the inside. Then with the material being Sil-Nylon means it will sag. if you can, see if you can get your hands on the Durston Xmid 2. Perfect UL tent and is Sil-Poly so it doesnt sag in the rain.

@@InOurElement not worth the hassle of even trying to get one as you guys know it’s always sold out…should just go for one of the dyneema tents, yes they’re expensive, but they are also worth it. Kyle can afford it he’s just being cheap which I totally get and appreciate, the cost of living is ridiculous these days no matter where you are. Still if doing long distance backpacking trips or thru hikes I think it’s silly to cheap out on gear especially your shelter…

Add a cheap 4×8/6×10 tarp for over a tent in rain, you see why, a long trip rule to not let your tent get wet. The tarp goes over your head and unpack under it to setup & break down in rain. A towel wipes or soaks most leaks, I would dry out in sunbreaks, always worth the time. Long trips keep drys for camp in a drybag, put wets back on, this is a lifesaver in the cold & nasty. Cheers🍺

I've had pretty good luck with my the One in the rain. Condensation the main issue. Served me well on the JMT last year. I hiked Art Loeb end of April. Definitely more interesting north of the Parkway. Best of luck on the PCT

I recommend learning how to seal your seems. Definitely worth the time investment. Or upgrade to the dynemma version. I say that with a southern drawl. Basically time or money are your options. Good luck on your travels out west.

Greeting from mile 730 on the Appalachian Trail! Not sure I’ve seen the water get that bad with my GG the one but I also try to sleep in shelters on most bad rain days. I would attach the ropes to those tie points on the outside to pull out the middle of the tent, it seems to help me with the condensation of breathing at night and the smaller rainstorms. Weird…I hiked the CT last summer with The One in MANY downpours and stayed dry. Condensation was a mild problem, but you have that with any single wall tent.

Before I go negative, I want to say that I enjoy your vids, and I'm looking forward to following you and cheering you on during your PCT hike. That said, I agree with Wood Chip below....many parts of this vid are so shaky that they are uncomfortable to watch on a larger monitor. Much worse than your usual posts! Don't know if the difference is in how it was shot or if Luke didn't stabilize footage in post that you would have. But I sure hope you guys get this worked out, because I'd love to watch the upcoming PCT vids without needing an air sickness bag nearby. ;-) Also wondering just how much longer you are going to drag out the PCT tease. I'm starting to think the the first one won't drop until after July 4th! ;-)

The REI Trailmade 2 is heavy but it does SUPER WELL in rain, and you can replace the heavy stakes with ultralight ones then it’s 4lbs

Bro I tried to hike this trail in 21 and it was hard af. After the first day of hiking vertical up hill was so gassed. The narrows at the top were super overgrown and we're unavoidable to get rubbed on by every branch then the descending trail was closed and completely washed out. We didn't know it was closed until after we finished it. By middle of day two after all the views we were way behind schedule and decided to call the rest of the hike because a hurricane was approaching and we didn't want to be stuck in that and struggle to hike anymore. Walked down to the parking area from the 10mi point and hitched a ride back to not Boone but the other camp ground were our car was.

I am working at the Pisgah Inn, on the Blue Ridge Parkway, NC. I did the Art Loeb Trail, two years ago, when I was down here and I loved it. I plan on doing it again.. I know you haven't own the GG tent very long, but it's not something you recommend?

Buy a tent which is double skinned, with ability to pitch outer first. Well worth it for minimum condensation. Don't eff about. Go for it.

The One blows in the rain, probably the worst rain tent known to man. Pretty crappy with condensation as well. The only great thing about the tent is summer packing in warm temperatures.

GG The One comes factory seam taped. The water on the inside was the condensation falling from the rain hitting the tent. Huge draw back for single wall tents. Plus, the one is terrible condensation management and its Sil-Nylon so after extended rain fall.it sags.

Nice edit Luke, but Kyle is already at Hiker Town knowing him. Love the music and don't forget to drop them soon. Are Patreons getting first peak? Doesn't have to be days but would be nice to get the preview. Sure it could be dropped that way.looking forward to 5 months of Nar Nar and Flossy. Send it! It was my first multi-night trip. It’s definitely doable in 3-4 days, but it’s not easy. It’s the Blue Ridge to Black Balsam is a okay indicator for NOBO trips, but really it’s the combination of tough climbs/descents and lack of reliable water sources that make it rough. I carried as much as 4 liters and ran out twice before the next source. Good luck!

It's impossible to say based on a YT video whether a trail is "bad" or not. Long slogs uphill and downhill don't really get filmed. When in doubt, just go hike! PS.: The hike up to Black Balsam from the BRP is a short section compared to the rest of trail. Getting up to that spot NOBO is a decent Whites-level day (3000 ft up, 6 miles).

A tent that doesnt keep water out is an instant return. Don't try to make it work for you, just buy a tent that wont fail on you. I've always thought those trekking pole set ups are TERRIBLE shelters. Just grab a seedhouse SL1 and call it a day.
