I beat ONLY UP! in 20 Minutes (Speedrun Explained)

Today I learned that SmallAnt doesn't know what a ring finger is.

I watched this man speedrun the game like 4 days ago, in 4 days he went from first time playing the game to getting a 20 minute run

For those interested, the anime girl isn't the only stolen asset. The part where you jump up the swords that are stuck into a wall, a few of those swords are direct copies of elden ring swords, the one with the gold metal stretching past the handguard, i think its a lordsworn's greatsword specifically.

Just an FYI: The 30 FPS at the cork is mandatory because it is easier to pull at 120 FPS but not everybody has the setup to run the game at that frame rate and some people would be at an advantage because of money, so they leveled the competition with that rule.

Woke up early on a Sunday sit down with a cup of coffee and watch 20 minutes of SmallAnt just casually explaining a game I didn’t know existed. Living life

Man, 20 minutes for a speedrun must feel like an eternity compared to the other climbing-type games.

This is the exact reason why I started following you, you just enjoy talking and it shows. Most streamers and RU-vidrs have these insane scripts for their videos but you’re just here talking to us like if we were your friends sitting next to you

I do really enjoy these explanation videos! Both of your own run and when you covered Nin-Tanner’s Bowser’s Fury run, it was fun to see how hyped you were on that one. You bring a different energy and approach to speed run explanation videos that a lot of dedicated channels do.

I think that this is a really good extra type of video for you to do my man. Like hearing someone explain this and its a bit less tasking on you so maybe it would be a fun thing to do! Loved the video man, keep it going!

really enjoyed this speedrun commentary, would love to see more! there's a lot of runs but not a lot of youtube vids of run commentaries from what I can see would be awesome to eventually see a only up speedrun progression as well down the line, you did an awesome one for odyssey

i really appreciate these types of speedrun commentary videos. Im not really in the speed running space so being able to watch someone explain what's interesting about a speedrun and why it's interesting let's me enjoy the content without feeling left out or confused

This was cool to watch. I liked the commentary on tricks and such, it helped someone who'd never even heard about this game understand exactly what was going on, while being entertaining. I'd definitely be down for more videos like this if you want to try more like this.

I like this kind of content because it is easier to understand what you are doing while doing it. I think this also pulls the pressure off you as the Speedrunner of explaining while actively doing the run.

I don't understand HOW Distortion does this. He almost got 2 or 3 different world records last night, it was insane.

Speculation on why specific frame rates require different setups: every frame a calculation happens, meaning depending on the frame rate, you will be at different locations along the same curve at time t, which can lead to lots of different things happening depending on the physics of the game.

Huge fan of post commentary explanations of speedruns!!! The other golden standard (which was actually live) was imo CosmoSpeedruns orcarina of time run (18:40 iirc)

half the game is stolen assets so its no wonder the game is constantly being changed and removed from steam. I mean the half way point literally had the final fantasy victory music. The dev probably didn't expect the game to blow up to this extent so didn't really care about the assets he used. I wouldn't be surprised if the majority of the game is different in some way to its original release, or if the dev just decides to say fuck it and keep it off steam.

I hate games like these, specifically, because the platforming was never play tested, but it's okay because "it's supposed to be like this." No thank you, if I wanted to deal with shitty platforming I'd just jump off my roof.
