Let's just be absolutely clear on this: Connor's reason for struggling is 100% his basic level of Japanese. It is obvious to everyone that he has both the confidence, the ability to enliven a character and the ability to perform, in voice acting, if only he knew the language better. I mean, the tone of that man's voice is maaade for VA work. So deep and smooth, wow. It's like the video of that homeless guy that was so good as a radio announcer, he was instantly given a job and is doing really well now. Not that Connor looks like a homeless person... well, actually...

51:38 I remember couple of Polish voice actors talking about how "back in the analog days" they had to be all there together in the booth, and that really allowed everything to feel much more natural. And now, when they record separately often times there's something slightly unnatural (that listener can pick up on) just because you're not actually talking with another person.
@Abedeuss
@Abedeuss Год назад
"Back in the analog days" it was also extremely rare to have fully dubbed shows in Poland. Movies, rarely, at least for kids (say - Disney movies or Hannah Barbara shows). Regular movies, anime shows? One guy voicing it. And I think the most "prolific" voice actor who voiced like most of 80-90s shows has passed away recently, so it's kind of an end of an era...

In summary, if you want to become a voice actor in japan: - Learn the basics of voice acting - know your strengths and weaknesses - have balls of steel - know how to take criticism - very FLUENT in japanese - put in the work, prepare and practice - Never give up and keep trying In other words, when you take this job you really have to make sure you know what you are doing and your goal. I'm sure there is a lot more but I'm going to have to give that to the comments.

Episode 1 of “That time I got reincarnated as a Voice Actor in Nippon” was fantastic! It’s great to see this type of content. I fee like a surprising amount of people have a deeper connection to voice acting than they realize. That little segment explaining why VA’s are so iconic in Japan really made me understand that a bit better.

I am so glad that my youtube recommended you! I just started watching emily, daidus and you for the last week. I know I'm late to the party that is your channels but I am very glad I have been introduced to your channel specifically. I have had a dream of being a voice over actor for years but couldnt make it happen yet due to my life getting in the way. I have only done theater in my local area for years but always have think I lack skills. But on stage I am a totally different person. I enjoy myself in this type of work and express myself more than I ever do anywhere else! This last week I have watched your videos on Voice acting and it inspired me to further my goal to be one! You have an amazing voice and talent! I hope to become one day as good as you! And I will try my best to use your advice greatly in my life! Thank you Connor!

That's a good and bad thing at the same time. You're free of restrictions but at the same time people can be rude or even a jerk and no one can complain about it. If you ever try to be rude to others in Japan, people will immediately stay away from you and you'll get secluded almost instantly.

Big respect to you Connor. Even though it was very difficult you pushed through and showed how amazing animes are voiceover. I think it was very cool seeing how you continued to push forward even though you messed up time to time. Even the Directors, Teachers, and Students cheered you on. Even I was cheering for you. You did awesome and be proud of yourself! Thanks for the educational and funny video. You were great!!!👍

The first and second parts remind me so much of my japanese class back in middle school. I was a transfer student and I didn't have japanese lesson in my previous school. So when I enter the new school, everyone already learned japanese for 1 and a half year. I was stumped at everything in the first day. But at least I understand some words cuz I watched tons of anime ever since I could walk. It was very embarrassing, everyone reading and having some tests meanwhile I'm struggling at writing あいうえお, but fun at the same time. Half a year later, the teacher made me teach my fellow classmates japanese. I was grinding hard on the lessons back then, afraid I would get left behind but instead I run too fast.

Man, Connor. You're crazy ambitious to have attempted this. Props. There's a base-level concept being proven in this showcase of what it takes to be a voice actor (or really, to achieve any endeavor): talent is not enough, you gotta put in the time to learn and practice. I like that Japanese culture has a baked-in expectation for every individual to keep learning, no matter how proficient they've become - when everyone is a student, then everyone is unified in their purpose, moving in the same direction despite any disparity in their present levels of ability.

Yes and the same principles apply for many other occupations, example musicians. You can’t get good from talent alone, it takes hours of practice and true dedication.

This is fucking fantastic, especially as someone who’s interested in Japanese voice acting (not me doing it lol). Saw the notification and thought it’d be like a 15-20 minute video but this man gave us a whole ass documentary ❤️

I love seeing this side of Connor. He's very vulnerable and open with this video. You can really tell and feel every emotion that was going through his body, and more importantly, how happy and appreciative he was getting to be there and meet everyone. I'm happy he's fulfilling his dreams and I hope he becomes as successful as he hopes. Good luck to him! 😊👍👌

Great work Connor! I would have found that incredibly difficult to do. I love how you always work through your shyness and put in your best effort. It makes me think maybe I can do the same by watching your confidence since I am really shy too! Oh my gosh that guy worked on Naruto!!? I only just started watching that recently and love it! Nichika-san has such a cute voice!!

I have been a long-time viewer of Conner's and I haven't seen many of his most recent videos but coming back to see just how much his Japanese has improved and how he can finally speak near full-to-full coherent sentences in Japanese, I feel actually so proud! And I know that he of course has to learn, living there and all, but it doesn't affect just how in awe I am. :)

It makes me laugh whenever Connor says his Japanese is "trash", since it doesn't translate well but he keeps doing it and it's funny. For any prospective Japanese language learners, I do not recommend using "gomi" when referring to your abilities in anything lmao. It is funny though.

@@churros724 In English it would sound like he is saying "My Japanese is trash can." because "gomi" is usually only used as a noun, rather than a mix of noun and adjective like in colloquial English.

Wow dude! Kudos for this man's courage. Well done, Conner. It'd be one thing to do voice acting in your native language, but japanese? And that too in front of actual voice actors. I'm so amazed and genuinely happy right now 🥰
