Redwing should offer a total blackout boot as an option, maybe they do. The finished product reminded me of Corcoran jump boots.

They look more like Garrison boots. I've never had red wings but do have Garrison.. as much as I love them they're not the most comfortable.. are Redwing comfortable? Please advise as I've never owned a pair. Thx

The teaching part is fascinating. As an old guy, I love to know how things are done right, no matter the industry. I wear boots, so YES, I like learning what RIGHT looks like. Your videos have really enlightened me a great deal. Nothing wrong with lifelong learning, even if it is not needed for your particular occupation. Turning work boots into dress boots turned out beautifully.

While there are a couple of very good cobblers on RU-vid...I dare say, of them all...Tony is likely the very best. I love his work. (And...his shop, is by far, the cleanest and tidiest, of all on RU-vid. In my opinion, that is a tell-tale sign, of a cobbler who goes the extra mile to do everything the right way).

"Lead Wing Iron Ranger" would be hilarious, but also the "Airborne Ranger" named for the Army Ranger airborne units. Red Wing likes naming boots after certain towns or trades, so I think Airborne Ranger is a pretty cool name.

@gomezjim

Great video. I'm curious why there still seems to be a substancial void after you glued in the cork. Does the entire cavity not need to be filled?
@WyattDadCobblerCompany
@WyattDadCobblerCompany 8 месяцев назад
The void only appears to be there. When forcing the sides up during the removal of the original cork, it makes them appear taller. The important part of the void to fill is the height of the sidewall of the gimming. Our cork is exactly that thick. I talked about hammering that over after welting. But it doesn’t completely lay over until the soles are hammered on and the boot flexed during walking. If you put too much cork in the center of the boot, it will feel like a lump is under the ball of the foot and make the metatarsal heads sore.
@gomezjim

Excellent. Would it be OK to follow up maintenance with a leather conditioner like Saphir, then a a coat or two of wax or polish, then spit shine ? In otherwords, I would want to prevent flaking of additional products !
@WyattDadCobblerCompany
@WyattDadCobblerCompany 8 месяцев назад
Yes, the main place to be careful with a cleaner like Saphir is around the white stitching that was dyed. You could strip some of the color out and make the thread look grey instead of black. Spit shining the toes and heel counters is definitely possible now.
