I busted out the Rapala Original Floating Jerkbait again (Brown Trout pattern) to chase some Brown Trout at my local stream. I was able to catch some fish, but there was also some crazy stuff that happened to me along the way. Hence the reason why I can't say whether I like this jerkbait or not!

One humble tip. Swap a couple Rapalas with single hooks. So once you get a good hole, which is branchy or you’re getting caught up a lot, switch to the single. You wouldn’t want to use a single all the time cause less hook up chance, but it will save you so much stress. Tight lines good luck brother

i like using a gold flame 2 inch 1/16 oz. yo-zuri pins minnow. its not that big and its not that small, its just the right size. trout love this color.

Thanks for another awesome post, great catches🎣! Wow, what a lure/rod calamity.😱 Great rescue! You are giving me something to watch while I'm in mandatory Shelter-in-Place in Illinois. Given your water clarity I'd consider switching from one classic, the Original Rapala Floater, to another classic, Mepps in-line spinners. However, my trout go-to was always live mayfly larvae (wigglers) under a float.

Thanks Michael! I have yet to try a Mepps but will definitely have to do so soon. Maybe I will do a video using a Mepps, Rooster Tail, and Panther Martin to see what the main differences are :D

In situations like you are in I use the Rapala countdown lure. It sinks slowly. 1 foot every second. So you can get deeper. And it is a little heavier so it is easier to cast.

Oh the things I’ve done to retrieve rapalas. One time I got my lure wrapped around a wire going across the river. I decided to climb across the wire grab my lure then drop down into the water and swim to the bank😂

That’s why I carry at least three of any bait I think will be productive? Makes your box bigger but worth it. Rods? When I’m walking, at least 4. In a boat at least 8. It’s a vicious cycle.

This is an older vid, but the tiger trout they have here in AZ are just as aggressive as the browns, act a lot like bass in open water

Another great vid. I like what you said about gaining confidence in different baits. That's really a good idea in building your knowledge because it teaches you how to effectively work a variety of presentations so when the time comes when you need a really particular technique to fish particular waters or particular conditions you have a wide arsenal that you're confident in.

Exactly! That is how I treated bass fishing when I first got into it, now I am doing the same thing for trout. As I continue to expand my knowledge, not only will I get rewarded in my fishing trips, but I will also have more to share with the angling community. I am thoroughly enjoying the process!

Like your videos ,always wear hip waders and you will be a prepared as you can be for ( oh crap) lol, also try the kastking calamus rods you will love them and they never come lose on the joint, I use the 6 ft light with my pflueger 25 supreme, and also my pflueger 30 supreme XT and kastking calamus 6ft med light, booth amazing paired together, veryyyy light. With backbone and fast action,,,,,,,!!!!!

Thanks Ted, yeah I am currently wader-less so my Muck Boots are what I have available. When I have some spare cash, I might make the investment into some new waders! And I have heard good things about Kastking so I will definitely keep this in mind when I need a new rod again :D

It looks like you were using a size 9 floating rapala? Maybe go down to size 7 would help with those fish that were just take a swipe at your larger rapala. Those size 7 floating rapala are an 1/8oz and cast really well on ultralight gear. The size 5 floating rapalas are 1/16 oz but I notice that at 2" long I sometime have them tangle on me when casting.

1:20 work it slower, and twitch the bait. I catch big browns often and if you Reel, stop, jerk it and change the amount every time you stop, they usually crush it on the pause. Also cast parallel to the current if there is any, or a 45° angle. I also HIGHLY recommend you buy a bottle of "Pro Cure" Bloody Tuna gel and dabble a small layer and spread it all over your lure, it'll leave a scent trail for them to follow if the water is murky, i never get skunked with it. Anyone who tries it that I show it too also notices a big increase in committed hook up ratios

This video maybe a year ago but I will be in your shoes come April 2022 when I will be trying rapala countdown or jerkbaits . Ya i subscribed cause its fun to see how it begins . I appreciate that alot for when or if I get frustrated try something new but knowing you went through it too and came out better for it so Thank you....

I'm super distracted chasing bass lately I've all but given up on trout. You're super lucky to get that rapala back it's called a lure retriever and I bought one this weekend and saved two lures today with it, totally worth the 💰 lol

Little help, watch Academy after the summer season, they have huge sales on waders, I was there last year and noticed $140 and $100 pairs Marked down to $90 & $70. Got a pair of each and when the rang up, $25 and $35, called my friends now they all have them.... This might be my favorite video of yours so far. Mostly because it was so relatable: the mix of excitement and frustration that comes with fishing. You’ve shown me that moving water is super fun to fish and I’ve started fishing it more than ponds/lakes. So please continue to fish in places like this. Any wisdom on where in the stream to find fish? Still water? After a section of rapids? Inside or outside of turns? Deep/shallow?

My next video is going to be one you like based on your questions! And thank you so much for the kind words, they really do mean the world to me! I love fishing moving waters man, it is so fun! The fish pull harder and tend to be prettier (no matter what species). As far as what I look for, I try to find deeper pools with good areas for fish to hide. That could be an undercut bank, a tree, brushpile, or boulder. The cover breaks up the current and allows fish to stage without exerting too much energy fighting the current all day. Fish will be shallow too, but I tend to find more fish in deeper pools / bends in the river.

Trout magnet makes jerk baits that have a thinner profile, those could possibly have a better hookup ratio because their easier to mouth for them. And I think they are a little less than the good ol rapalas

when u put on a rod top make sure your guides are on a 45 degeee angle push donw with a litle presser as you strighin guides and there will be no more tops flying off

Man.. this reminds me of my days on the water chasing trout latley😂. But one thing I learned is ,if your not throwing in the spot.. you might not catch that big one.. sincerely the guy who loses a lot of lures.. 🤓🤬🤙

@@FishAnything that depends on if its posted.... around where I live you can hunt almost everywhere but they have stuff posted as archery only they also have these weird spots in the middle of the woods that's posted no hunting. It's like a safe haven for deer or something like that. Normally it's so thick in those areas you couldnt get a deer out of there if you blasted one anyways.
