Welcome to Multiair. Here in the US countless multiairs end up with needless engine swaps or scrapped because people do not understand this engine. If it sits for a long time, the oil drains out of the Multiair brick and it will be very hard to start, acting like no compression. But in reality just top off the oil, new battery and crank for 5-10 minutes and you're good.

The Immobiliser had been recoded and my keys no longer worked to try and start the car but sadly it was in a bad state too. Drivers door lock and barrel had been jammed, all alloy wheels were damaged, drivers rear quarter had been scuffed against another vehicle, passenger side had been keyed, front & rear bumpers had been damaged, engine coolant had overflowed and oil coming out from turbo. That sound of low compression was the multiair unit building up pressure. Had it loads of times when you change them and start the car after, it takes ages to start and makes the sounds you described. Awesome car just make sure you put the right oil in it and stick to the scheduled servicing otherwise the multiair unit will go ! I recommend you run the command in the ecu for the oil change as it re calculates the values for the multiair unit.

The best oil for the car is the Selenia 10W40 / 50 that I also drive in my Abarth punto evo scorpione 1of199 but you have the wrong oil and in a few days / weeks you will have to pay 1300 € for a new multiair unit. But before driving the car, he should insert new spark plugs (NGK IKR9J8) and a new timing belt and of course a complete oil change. The water in the trunk often comes from the seal on the rear window wiper, which should be checked first.

Check the 3rd high level brake light seal , boot rubber plug seals and the tail light gasket seals for the bootwell water leak, I saw a few of these on the market places for £3500-4000. Can’t wait for the Polo build . Somethings the multijet system is slow on reaction on cold starts, I think it was that. Maybe pour some water around amd down the crevices of the boot, maybe you will see an immediate leak. That lever on the turbo is to increase the boost pressure to Max 😀

As an owner of an Abarth Punto Evo, I have a few tips. Make sure that you ONLY use Selenia Petronas 5w40 Oil, as it’s the only kind of oil that these engines are compatible with. If you don’t use this, it’ll kill the multiair unit. When doing your full service, make sure to change the Multiair filter when you change the oil. Easy 10 min job. Update the blue and me software through the USB port on the dash.

With regards to the colour, as I understand the story - Campovolo is the name of an airfield which is opposite the historic headquarters of Abarth in Corso Marche in Turin. Karl Abarth when he first started out building/tuning Abarths used to buy his paint from the airfield for his cars and used the same Campovolo shade of grey paint that was used on the aircraft. Cracking colour though.

Well done phil great little find. I worked for a family here in Dublin who were main Honda, jeep and fiat main dealers, and they also ran a car rental company. The two sons of the owner used to race 2 of those abarths on the racing scene in Ireland. Every now and again as a treat the owner used to bring us for a day out to mondello park and we would get a go racing them around the track. Cracking little cars and very quick and because they are lowered they corner like they are on rails. You will have no problem getting close to 6k for that all day long. Keep up the good work.

The golden knob is a bonalume. They're an italian tuning firm, that's a blow off/ re-circulation valve. If you want the blow off/ dump sound then you can move that leaver to adjust it. Or you can move it to have it act like a normal re-circulation valve :)

Hi Phil, grea content. With the car being stood for so long and with the position the engine has been stop at it could of compressed the oil out of the hydraulic lifter's, causing some valves to not open/close properley, then when you turned it over more the oil pressure built up to what it should be when cranking and then the engine started.

I just sold mine today and I'm already regretting it. It was also a campovolo grey one. Rebuilded the engine, because it had a lot of issues since the engine was "tuned". Started with the radiator and then the activator started going crazy, which resulted in power loss. At times the turbo wouldn't spool up anymore when I was driving on the freeway.. Eventually my gaskets leaked and my gasoline mixed with the coolant. After the rebuild it was a dream to drive it again! Since I started the rebuild, I had already bought an RX-8, so I couldn't keep 2 daily cars, especially these 2, because they're kinda expensive to maintain both. Let alone driving them from gas station to gas station hahah

Great to see lady luck shine on you mate. Given the water on the rear screen it looks like it is coming in from high up, that said, a common failure on many cars can be the air vents behind the rear bumpers. Best advice is to get inside with someone running a hose over the back and look out for leaks. Good luck with this one.

I've owned 2 of the Abarth Grande Punto's with the earlier t-jet engines. 6 speed M32 gearbox can give trouble, put the car in 1st with the engine running and lift the clutch pedal to biting point, if the gearstick moves about 1" the bearings that hold the gears in place are worn. Great cars, rare to see one on the road.

There were several Abarth Puntos and 500 Tributos around as courtesy cars when I worked at a Ferrari Maserati dealer ten years or so back. Sometimes we used them as a chase car when dropping back customer cars and 9 out of 10 times drivers preferred to drive the Abarths over the customers Ferrari or Maserati because they were so much fun. Interestingly at the time two Puntos were bought very cheap (09 or 10 if memory serves) as a trade sale from Fiat Marylebone (£10k+vat which was much lower then) because they needed to clear them to hit sales target by a certain date and the cars were not to be resold for at least 6 months as part of the deal. One of them was same colour as car in the video. The car being stolen recovered shouldn't be too much of a worry over a "clean" car because cars like this get driven like they are stolen anyway! I thought about buying one of them while it still had warranty but the boss got top dollar for the cars from enthusiasts so I never owned one but I took one home for the weekend every chance I got! Edit: spelling

CAT N could refer to a previous write-off. Not sure if a history/hpi check would tell you when CAT N was applied. If however its CAT N due to stolen recovery you could challenge the categorisation, and maybe have it removed from the HPI database. I did this when my Subaru was stolen, it was recovered and I had to change the locks. It was recorded by insurance company and created issues for resale, I challenged the categorisation as it hadn't been a 'Write-Off' due to the usual damage you'd expect, and they cleared the HPI status. You may want to explore it, it would add value to the car.

Valve timing was being reset, they always do this when you plug in diag and clear errors from the mcu's, which i assume you did, this would have reset the valve timings ;) 1, tun ign on wait for lights to go out, 2 switch off ign, 3, switch back on wait for lights out and try start again hold the key to start for 3 full rotations of the crank, the sound of the lump will change from no compression to compression as the mcu resets the valve timings, when you hears this change in compression, switch off ign to save valve timing settings, 4 then switch key back on wait for lights to go out and it should be ready to start. boom, winning. Listen to this vid again and you will hear compression build as its spinning up, just before it started. Hope this helps

Rear water pipe for windowwiper, runs with the loom at the top left handside of boot, over time of opening/closing boot, it'll cut through wires and water pipe, causing problems with tail lights.

Interesting car although I'm not really a fan of Fiats and to be honest I never knew this particular model existed. Looking forward to seeing the rest of the videos.

It’s not a fiat it’s an abarth.

@@McAuley2442 Abarth is a subsidiary of Fiat. Fiat built all the Abarths from around the 70s to present. They were built in the same factory by 'Abarth Technicians'. In other words a Fiat Punto with special bits added on 🤷‍♂️

@@Jacob_Field in the eyes of the DVLA and as per the handbook, it’s an Abarth, not a Fiat. Yes you’re right about Fiat building Abarths in the past, but in 2007 the company was re-established as its own independent unit, it just so happens to be owned by Fiat. The parts are completely different. Different multiair engine, different turbo, springs, shocks, exhaust, interior, badges, body kit, wheels, lights and intercooler. So no, it not just a punto with bits added on 😂😂

I've had the 2012 fiat badged version, with 135hp, but the differences are a bit less.. for the interior the differences are only the steering wheel and the front seats. The engine shares the same block, internals and head with the same cams and multiair sistem, same throttlebody and intake box (not the filter). The gearbox is different, with 6 gears for the abarth, 5 gears for the fiat version. The ecu are from two different brands for the two cars, but with a good remap you can reach at least 25/30hp. Mine fiat punto had a remap and open exhaust and could reach 225km/h in fifth gear at 7600rpm (limiter) with a 0-100 of 7.4" . Pretty good car in the corners against the golf gti and similar with over 250kilos less than the gti..

New intro get a thumbs up from me. Guess you could contact the Abarth Owners Club to get a likely value and maybe someone interested in buying it.....

Get the multiair filter changed (by the cam belt in first shot) and use the correct Selinia oil (it has to be the right one because acts as hydraulic oil for multiair too), PS my wife has a Evo GP which is model below, got cheap due to miss fire.

I would make sure to change the Multiair filter it’s pretty easy. It’s by the cam belt.

The actuator unit needed oil pressure too open intake valves The multiair engine does not have an intake camshaft it has a solenoid unit If left for sometime these drain off

Check the rear washer works on the screen. Could be a split pipe and leaking into the boot

Can't understand why these Punto's don't get more love and this one is cracking. I'd hang on to it 'til this lockdown crap is done. A bit of a tidy up and enjoy it.

Hi Phil loved the new intro and love the punto but not as much as the St. Lol 😂 cracking little car though and I bet its rapid!!! I'd put it away as it will only go up in price. I remember in the 80's I had an xr3i and that used to leak into the boot and fill up the wheel well ended up drilling a hole in the boot floor sorted lol great video mate can't wait for next exciting episode thanks.
