Thanks for including the washing and polishing. For me, who doesn’t know a pallet fork coil from a mainspring jewel lever, what I like is seeing the physical transformation. I love hearing about and seeing the gunk and abuse, seeing it removed/fixed, seeing which parts are broken, etc., and then seeing the transformation happen. Also the part with your kid laughing was great. Cheers.
I am a retired Mechanical Engineer and I can't tell you how much I enjoyed watching your Watch repair and restoration video. You are truly a master craftsman of the highest order. Watching your video answered many questions I have mused about over the years regarding Watch design and repair. If you know of any videos that show the Die Tooling used by the Watch making industry, I would very much appreciate you passing along the URLs. I can send you my Email if you would prefer to respond off line. I have also subscribed to your channel.
This is the first time I actually watch a complete vintage restoration, and enjoyed every minute. I like the the fact that you explain the process, and do not ramble on other subjects. Keep up the great work, and keep shining those diamonds.
I've only been watch repairing for a very short while, just a little over 4 years now, and find your restoration videos very interesting. Thank you so much for taking the time and effort to share your projects with us, step by step - I am learning so much, and enjoying the light hearted humour along the way! I hope you and your family keep safe.
I'm 50. I have never thought about the working of a watch. Since l saw your first vid , l was gob smacked. The tiny engineering. Its amazing. Its more than that. Actually matching time. Insane . I appreciate watches so much now. In such a small object. Mind-blowing
I love your parts washer with small sections to keep everything separate. What a wonderful machine. Amazed how well the crystal came out. Notice that editing video is like assebling a movement. First assemble and prepare all the parts, lay them out in order then adjust the cuts and transitions required. Apply the VO to clarify key points and then check it' is all running to time. You are clearly getting a grip on the production process. Well done.
A great restoration/repair. There is just something about this watch that strikes me. I really like everything about it. I can see myself wearing it. I enjoy your channel and have been working my back through your earlier videos and this is one of my favourite watches.
I can recall feeling deeply disappointed when the time began being displayed on so many devices, almost negating the need to wear my watch. I love your work Joe, it explains my appreciation of beautifully crafted watches. Thanks for sharing.
I am systematically working towards watching all of your videos as your work and commentary are not only instructive for those of us trying to learn watchmaking, but extremely enjoyable relaxing entertainment as well, and fun to have your kids involved, as you do at times. I also love the backstories and histories that you provide, and I think that many of us would also love to know the dimensions of the watches that you are working on as part of your presentations. Thanks for all that you do. Best regards, Chris 🐸
Extraordinary restoration of that beautiful watch! I'm really enjoying watching your artistry and it's amazing how calm you stay...some of the things you're doing would get me so frustrated...but then you're a trained professional who knows anger leads to lost parts and lots of "floor time". But...we do need more videos!
Gorgeous. It just goes to show that a watch doesn't have to be an incredibly expensive piece of high horology to have personality, history and elegance. In the right hands, a tarnished and tatty piece becomes another treasure.
I live in the US now, but I grew up in the village next to Hölstein, Switzerland, where the manufacturer that makes Oris watches is located and I used to drive by it quite often. It is a big building for that small of a village. So glad to have seen an Oris restored that beautifully! Males me want to become a watchmaker! Awesome channel, and wonderful watchmaker! Keep up the good work!
I find it amazing that anyone would want to have a commentary-free, music-accompanied version of your videos since it takes out all the fun and personality that others find rightfully endearing. It’s a beautiful thing when talent, intelligence, and kindness all come together. I hope your kids know how lucky they are to have such a dad...
I agree! This gentleman has a wonderful sense of humor and I love learning how these beautiful time pieces work. It just amazes me. This is a lost art.
Completely agree. So many channels just silently work. With the commentary I find myself learning obviously not gonna have the same level of expertise 😂, but you start to learn part names and location it’s really awesome
This is the same watch that my grandfather's dad had and gave to him he then gave it to me but because I was too young I ended up losing it and ever since then I've hated that I never knew what it was called thanks to your video I now know what I'm going to get next Christmas
As an amateur clock repair butcher, I, like many of your subscribers ,am fully immersed in the excellent videos of watch repair artistry that you do! Your talent and sense of humour is most engaging 👍 my best to your accountant and the trouble! '
absolutely wonderful, i grew up auto mechanic and fabrication type work but i find watching you so soothing. thank you for your time you put into your videos
Wow. You’re work is literally unbelievable. How do you even begin to learn about watchmaking and repair? How do you instinctively just know where each part goes without a diagram?
I am amazed and delighted! What a delicate and painstaking job! How much knowledge and skill, what experience and pragmatic knowledge should be! Very grateful for this video.
That watch can be cheerish by it’s owner many years more by your beautiful work..I just don’t get those 269 ppl who give thumbs-down! they must be so jealous of this art work but nevermind, we always appreciate your great job.
To the eye of the unskilled, (mine!) I was surprised that the movement in this watch wasn’t more gunky and broken than it was? Given the obvious tough times the case and sapphire had been put through? Finished result as usual with your work is fantastic. An enjoyable vid. Thank you.
Amazing! In these last days I casually found this magnificent world of the watches. I felt in love with it. I would like to be younger only to begin a journey for learn how to become a watching artisan.
You did a fantastic job on that watch. It it belongs to someone, they better appreciate it. It is a beautiful watch. Thank you for the no music version.
Ok, love your banter an such stuff.. your voice is soothing an so is Trouble's.. he's an amazing wee fellow..!! Thanks so much for the history an just everything you do.. Amazing.. Thanks for sharing your lives with us grateful ✌🏼💗😊❣️
Movements all have similar parts. Once you do 100-200 you basically know where everything goes. In the beginning you take a lot of pictures and organize the screws carefully.
Oohh oohh wonderful work of a True Watch Maker ...Dear Joe you did not see meeee i am clapping here....bravooo ... Im just here present..Loving from Philippines
Is it possible to do a video on learning watchmaking, tools of the trade you use (“boring”, weird, and funny), topics of what you think makes a good mechanism, common problems you see, common fixes you use, types of oils/lubricants, and more! Lol, so many questions, but I don’t know what I don’t know. Love your commentary, and videos! Thanks!
I adore these older Oris watches, but have trouble finding them back that far. I can find them a couple of decades after that, with far lower quality straps retro-fitted to them, but nothing quite as exquisite as the one seen here. Lovely work.
This was an insanely ugly beast 👹 of a ⌚ but turned out to be beautiful 🤩 in your hands. The glass and case restoration were unbelievable. What material is the case made from? I really enjoyed watching the transformation thank you 👍
I've been working my way through your videos and just wanted to say thanks for another great episode. I think I've watched them all now so very much looking forward to the next installment! Fascinating to watch a craftsman like you do things we mortals couldn't begin to do......
I find these watch restoration videos fascinating. I'm not watchmaker, so maybe I'm missing something, but I can't understand why anybody would give a "thumbs down" to this gentleman and his skills.
