How to tutorial....Watch as we restore this 1940s Tudor. The dial needs some attention so we will clean that up. The crystal is scratched and the case is worn so ill be showing you how to polish out the scratches from the glass. The movement, Caliber 59 also needs an overhaul. The nickel plated case is also worn and so we will electroplate it to spruce it up.

My father was a watchmaker. I would watch him work, taking apart watches, his loup on his glasses. He'd fit all the parts into the baskets and clean them in the ultrasound. Then came putting them back together. I love the smell of watch oil. He's been gone 16 years now, long since retired in the 80's. I miss him. I took as much of his equipment as I could. I use them to make jewelry.

Beautiful. Thank you. Now, do you think you could do a video where you show us how you're able to be so warm-hearted, gentle, kind, generous, so utterly calm and patient, respectful, courteous and polite, exacting, dedicated, disciplined, fun and funny, and, apparently, a wonderfully loving father...in a world that sometimes wears us down and grinds these virtues out of us...? When I hear you speak so quietly and confidently, without a milligram of malice for anybody or anything (other than a rudely treated watch, and even then with merely a tone of mild disappointment), I hear the echoes of the love you came from, the love that surrounds you here and now, and the love that seeps out of you as naturally as water from a spring. There is a purity and a wisdom to that. The world needs more of it. Thank you.

A few years ago you could buy these movements along with the dial and hands on Ebay for around £50 as people ripped them out of the gold cases and sold the gold for scrap value. It broke my heart and I bought several of them and put them back into cheaper, non Dennison, cases for my own use. You call them simple movements but in fact they are really beautifully made and keep fantastic time for something made in the 1950s. Fantastic video.

A really good restoration of the dial amd the glass (and of the case as well). I am always more happy to see that the original dial was not replaced. Usually even some greater wear on the vintage dial is tolerated by the watch collectors. It shows that a watch has its own story to tell.
