This was the same RV used in breaking bad! I bought this 1987 Fleetwood Bounder RV of craigslist for $1000. Let's see what's wrong with it! It has the Chevy 454. RV camper motorhome winnebago
Because of Breaking Bad, It's literally the same bodyshape, Love the video! This camper would be perfect for trips to canada as long as you are cool with the fuel economy.
yeah honestly I am looking at an rv that is about a decade older than that one, they are asking the same process but honestly with as much work as it needs I am going to try to get it for 300, I mean just in paperwork alone, it does not have a title, so basically I am going to have to get a vermont registration, and then use that to get a title in my state, so just in that alone I am going to spend at least 350 close to 400 just to get it titled, it also does not have keys but considering its age I could get a key made for super cheap, it also does not run but from what it looks like it should not be super hard to get running as from the looks of it the problems are not the engine itself but pumps and such but it will still be a bit of work, plus the inside is very not good so I will have to pay in total about 2k minimum to get it go decent condition but it will probably be worth it
@Tesseract 14 Were you able to find a place that makes new keys for these? If so, could you put their contact information or website here? Mine doesn't have keys either, and its very old.
It's so full of rot it's going to need a lot of time and $ to fix up. I worked in my stepdad & mom's RV shops as a young man and we woudn't tackle jobs like this. However, if you're good at building and 1x2 construction and really good at making things fit and have a lot of time it could be fixed
Looks like you could fix it up and make it livable. FIX THE ROOF!!! Get on top and do a quick inspection. Tarp it if necessary!!! Next, empty all your water storage. Black, grey, and fresh. If that stuff freezes up, it breaks stuff. Find your control panel, open cabinets until you find it. This will give you battery voltage, maybe some circuit breakers, levels for fresh water, grey water, black water, and propane level. See if the gennie runs....make sure you have at least a half-tank of fuel or it won't start. Look for manuals it all drawers and cupboards....quite helpful! And....RU-vid is your friend! Best wishes!!!!!
A Rural Vermonter - Qqjmcb 182 for the love of fuck make sure you drain the black water first, then the gray water behind it to flush the solids out of the drain pipe. Don’t dump anything out into the yard, it’s illegal. A lot of truck stops have rv tank dumps, some charge a fee, usually 10-20 bucks.
You can try to give advice. No one will hear it until they learn for themselves. You must learn from your mistakes. Or accomplishments. Explore my friends explore 🆗🇺🇸💯👌🙏🤞🤪
Dang! You gotta be careful collecting all these vehicles, you’ll end up looking like my place! So . Fix the water leaks and road trip it down here this summer eh?
Yep. Had a friend who had one back in the '80's. We took it on a 2,000 mile trip around the US and had a great time. It was very reliable. Of course, that was 30 years ago. You might run into a number of issues with one that old. Remains to be seen how reliable this one is after all these years.
That's a damn good deal if the engine runs well. All 6 tires will be about 200$ each. The interior doesn't look like it needs to much work minus the water damage. Great find!
When I was in Real Estate school, they said to look for rust under metal railings, metal handles. Basically, because the stuff is boiled, and corrosive, rust happens in unusual places. Sounds like an exhaust leake over a valve tap...but, I'm not live. You ALWAYS impress me...YOU HAVE ACCESSIBLE COMMON SENSE!! The engine, trans, and generator is worth more than you paid for it. Love shack...hehehe.
Put a tarp over the Motorhome immediately. Fix it permanently as you have time...It should be a fun project....MUCH BETTER than a new one for the money.....think of the price per pound...
I redid an old motorhome once and the best idea is to replace the carpet with wooden flooring..wash everything, and take care of the ceiling leaks! You got a great deal! I know how to upholster and so I reupholstered the sofa's chairs seats etc, in mine. It looked brand new when I was finished! Any questions ask me! :)
My goodness, that RV is huge. What a great find! I am so exited to see what you are going to do with it. It must have been one very luxurious RV back in the days. I am sure she will shine again :-)
I'm definitely looking forward to seeing you rehabilitate this older Bounder. Yes it will take some serious work, but it could be beautiful when you are done remodeling it. Please bring 'er back to life.
That was my favorite show ever. That looks like the exact camper they used in that show . I think you got a killer deal. Drove it home in the snow first time driving it too. You are a trooper. I could work with it no doubt. It will be nice when you’re done. Later
I know nothing about trailers and bought a 17 footer for $3750. Exploring in it and discovering what works/doesn't is half the fun. I tip my hat to you sir!
Nov. 29, 2019---Thanks for the video. I subbed simply because I want to learn what you had to do AND what it cost you material wise to get this thing road and living worthy. Looking at buying a used class A myself and have watched more than one RU-vid video on doing these kinds of repairs, like resealing a roof. Think your biggest bugaboo isn't going to be the leaky roof, but how about possible black mold?
I love it! A steal at $1k, I saw a 75 Winnebago a few miles from my house a few weeks ago for $1500, was so damn tempted! Now I see this so I'll survive lol
I think that's a pretty good deal. I would get some plastic tarps and cover the roof and maybe the walls also so no more moisture to get in. But I think it's a great project and you'll get a lot of use out of it. I would see and want to know what the extent of the wood rot and damages so not to spend too much money. And you might want to winterize the fresh black and grey water tanks so they don't freeze. Great video
I'm a semi truck driver and I like driving big stuff. Cool score. Hope you get it fixed up good. Right off the bat I would suggest headers for your exhaust system. They help that motor breathe better. That suspension was looking kind of weak. Also invest in some centramatic wheel balancers. Too bad it's carbureted. That's really going to suck the fuel down. Do a good job of waterproofing everything on it, fix it up on the inside, looks like a good fun project now. Good luck.
I knew a guy who was speeding very fast on the interstate highway and his hood flew off his 70 Monte with many cars behind him and he never looked back :O
What's going on man I found your channel on a suggestion and I'm a Huge fan of your Bounder Rv Love how you have got it and cleaned it up I'll be watching all video's
Exellent buy my friend.... For 1000 bucks you cant beat it. You drove it an hour to get home with no issue not bad. The water damage can be fixed easilly. Congratulations on your New purchase big shout out to you from México.
Looks like a pretty good deal. It will take some time and money to get rid of the black mold. One thing I have to stress is get the water out of it expecially the hot water heater!!! That's expensive and a pain to replace. Can't wait to see you on your first camping trip
For a grand, I think you did good! R+The chassis and drivetrain alone is worth that. Was through your neck of the woods last weekend to pick up a C-10 project for my channel!
I agree, tarp the roof while you leave it to sit awhile. The biggest concern I have is the reason for that big old crack coming up in the vicinity of the missing cargo door.
Not trying to be negative but once water intrusion happens on these older RV, it can cost a huge fortune to fix. It often don't just affect the roof but seep down into the walls cause unseen damage. I love the Fleetwood Bounders since they are so iconic from Breaking Bad. Good luck.
I think you did well for $1000. The roof's water damage was an issue that will take some effort. I would guess that with another $1500-$2000 and you're labor this could end up being a great rig. Video production is pretty good and I like the content. I'm subscribing!
This is a good buy. Maybe this is an eyesore for the owner close to donate it. But then he tried if someone will buy it instead. He just want to dispatch it right away. Quite excited how it will become soon. Will watch closely your DIY project. Your new subscriber... 😊😊
I too drive a 2006 Dodge grand caravan and I also live in a bounder just like this one only you got the dinette area, lucky, mine is short, but good luck man it looks good I hope you have fixed the water damage spots and have been living in it full time!
I live in California (yes, STILL!) and I'm about ready to sell and buy one of these for $200,000. And I'll still get a better deal than from the California real estate market.
My only advice would be have it checked for mold. If there's black mold you do not want to be in there until it's stripped down to metal studs and rebuilt. Heck, it RUNS so it was for sure worth what you paid for it! You could probably turn it over as is and make at least 1-2k off it!
The leak is in the same place almost every single ruined camper leaks at, around the sky-light vent on the top! Some campers do leak around the windows, as well.... Both of these could have been prevented by removing the skylight immediately, and good awnings over the windows made so that water can never touch the window seal. This same issue also is found in mobile homes, almost as if the manufacturers of campers and mobile homes knew this, and was planning for them to need to be replaced quickly enough to keep them in business. It was preventable.
Not sure of the year you have but I have a 2005 chevy colorado i5 3.5 liter. I LOVE it!!! Its been a trooper! 230,000 miles and hasnt given me any problems other then small things like a door handle snap
