I BOUGHT A $3,000 H3... The SUV That BANKRUPTED Hummer

I was on the hunt for the baby Hummer to go offroading when I came across this 2007 Hummer H3 that was listed for $5,000. I messaged the seller asking if it was and he immediately responded with $3,000 firm. With all the other H3's out there listed for $7,000 or more I jumped right on this deal and somehow it drove home with no issues! Now we get to wrench on the little Hummer and it seems like it's going to be a lot of fun.

My wife had a 2007 H3 alpha and she drove it from 2009 to 2022. Never had any mechanical problems. It had 25 thousand miles when She got it and sold it with 158 thousand miles. It cost $23,000 in 2009 and sold for $6,000 in 2022. She absolutely loved her H3. Often men would tell, “Love your truck, mam!” She and my son were caught a heavy snow storm in northern Kentucky and her hummer and the National guard vehicles were the only ones moving.

@@WatchJRGo There is no "main wiring harness" recall for the Hummer H3. There are two recalls for the H3: 1) is for a resistor under the glove box that is part of the AC blower motor control. This has overheated and caught fire in the past. Mine actually burnt out and I had it replaced before they even recalled them. 2) replace the fake plastic louver on the hood as it has a tendency to blow off in high winds (such as driving fast on the freeway. Call your local GM dealer. They'll get your VIN number and they will be able to tell you of the recall work has been done on your Hummer.

I found this out the hard way…. I have an 2007 h3 that was bought brand new but mostly house in Florida and almost never driven. Then the truck was brought over to Texas to be a daily driver. Worked fine up until we had our famous 2021 ice storm which ended up flash freezing my already brittle harness cause the vehicle to short out. I then spent the next 3 months trying to find out the problem was through various auto shops telling me it was the throttle body needing replacement to spent nearly $3000 on replace and see fixes until I finally took it to a GM dealer ship, waited 2 weeks for them just to look at it and then to told me that for sure it was a shorted out engine wire harness. I thought great let’s change it out. Come to find out the GM has discontinued that specific wire harness a while ago. So I was out of looking until I found some other GM parts dealers and I thought I finally found the piece that I was looking for only for it to be the European version of the wire harness meant for right hand drive H3’s. I was devastated and ready to send the truck to scrap yard even though it only had 88k miles. Until finally thru some back door brokering and extensive internet part searching I got a replacement harness that fit that was not OEM but I had not choice at this point. I couldn’t find any at a junk yard either. So long story short. I change out the harness and bam truck works like brand new again. Check your wire harness lol.

Those Hummer H3’s can last basically forever if you are religious on maintenance. I used to have a 2006 H3 (3.5L I5) that I sold with 305,000 miles on it and still was running like the day it just rolled off the assembly line with only a couple minor problems. I know people love their V8’s, but be fair. The I5’s are great engines and can haul a** if you want it too. I regularly got 19-20MPG out of it which is pretty good considering it’s a Full-Time 4x4 vehicle, and terrible aerodynamics. Easily the best vehicle I’ve ever owned.

The H3 did not bankrupt Hummer. The H3 was designed by GM and produced from 2005-2010, it was NEVER built by Hummer (A M General) as were the H1 and H2. In fact, the H3 was built at the same GM plant in Louisiana as the Canyon and Colorado. GM itself was going bankrupt in 2009 and, as you noted, tried to sell off Hummer to the Chinese for $150 million as part of GM's bankruptcy plans, but the sale fell through. GM then simply decided to discontinue the nameplate much as it did with Oldsmobile in 2004 and both Pontiac and Saturn in 2009. Divesting itself of Hummer, Pontiac and Saturn was necessary for GM to secure the loans it needed from Congress to stay in business. To say that the H3 bankrupted Hummer or GM is factually inaccurate.
@charlesharalson487
@charlesharalson487 Год назад
Facts though you failed to mention key points that I would like to bring up. During the recession and bailouts is when the Hummer was discontinued. Many misconstrued it as Hummer going bankrupt but it was actually because the administration at the time was big on “economical impacts” and what’s the first thing people “think is real” with the Hummer? The costs to produce and sell these vehicles were high too, but not anymore than a Wrangler and they compared equally in MPG. In short, the company discontinued because they didn’t “need” it and was the stipulation they needed to meet in order to receive their bailout.
@6lastresort
@6lastresort Год назад
How come the Chinese keep buying our companies?
@Dallen9
@Dallen9 8 месяцев назад
The H3 Bankrupted Hummer is by that logic is 100% accurate. The H3 was the worst selling of the three Hs and when times got hard they shuttered the doors. Bankrupt GM? Nah that would be GMs gross mismanagement on the grander aspect of their umbrella, but to say it didn't Bankrupt Hummer is wearing rose tented glasses. The H3 was a horrible misstep in branding of a product. And Hummer being a product of the American Market American's have never liked a newer thing having the bigger number but worst states when compared to prior versions. people tolerated the H2 only cause it was still the same size as the H1s and when the H3 dropped all faith in the brand died. The orders from dealers was small cause no one who wanted a hummer wanted an H3, when they killed Pontiac, Saturn and Hummer it was cause Pontiac was to costly, Saturn was trash, and Hummer was failing. So yes The H3 Bankrupt Hummer in a Chapter 7 level of capacity, that's 100% Factually Accurate, you could even say it Bankrupt GM cause they did have the paperwork ready to file for Chapter 11 if the bailout didn't go through and they still were going to close the three brands for the same reason. only thing is Buick may have joined them if they had fully filed for Chapter 11 and didn't get bailed out.

This is mainly my work vehicle, but I drive it multi-state and feel very comfortable off-roading in the vast fields here. With all of the dust in the back of yours, you probably should replace the rear exhaust vent located behind the spare tire. The louvers were rotted out of mine and allowed dust in. I love mine…After having the motor blow a month after being bought (used),&waiting 6 months for Jasper to rebuild mine,the only thing that has went bad was the # 3 coil! I change oil every 3,000 miles and it gets as good of mileage as my old 97 Blaser! It had a V6.

Don't forget the Dodge Nitro. Was my first new vehicle in 2007. Cost me $30k CAD new and it also had a 3.7L V6 with similar hp and size. It also had a small ass window lol. It was an okay vehicle for the 6 years I had it. Only needed a $40 sensor near the fuel tank in all that time. Never broke down, or got stuck in our Alberta winters. However at the 6 year mark the interior was falling apart. Trim rubbing and shaking and rattling. They made them cheap AF

I sold a 2004 1500 burb 5.3L last January 2022, 133000 mi, in great shape for $6000 in SC. Towed travel trailer all of the 18 yrs off and on,I owned from new. Paid $30k with rebates in 04. Great service but got tired towing my always overloaded trailer rig. Replaced it January 2022 with a 2021 F150 Powerboost Hybrid. My new sports car pickup truck.

Hummers were always my dream vehicle and I finally bought one in 2020. Although I still got it, I recently purchased a 2014 Toyota FJ Cruiser that I'm absolutely in love with and will wanna keep forever. I still love my Hummer but dreams change. Anyhow, my H3 has heated leather seats. Also, the good thing about Hummer H3's are they are easy to work on like you wouldn't believe compared to other vehicles.

It's honestly not bad for the price. It has way less wrong with it than say buying an older land rover for cheap. Those can be a nightmare with things failing with age even if you barely use it. I have one that the whole drive train is really good and no rust, But you are guaranteed to have to do head gaskets at some point. But all the window regulators, door locks and latches, sun roof, and some of the switches all fail at some point. You can learn almost everything about a vehicle just by owning and trying to operate a land rover lol. It's so fun to drive though and has the best visibility out of it than any vehicle I have driven, It's hard to get rid of them.

Transmission bellhousing is unique to the I6 Trailblazer, and the I5/I4. Those window switches are the same ones as a Crew Cab Colorado/Canyon. I'm not sure why anyone would be suprised that it seems totally fine, tons of high mileage colorados and canyons out there - if they had any level of care they'll all make it 250k+. The best ones have the 5-speed for anything on this platform.

Absolutely an underrated vehicle I love these vehicles I grew up in an h3 and an h3t then ended up getting my own and I still love it other than the view, the power, and the transmission other then that it’s got great off-road capabilities you can put 35s on there stock if you going off-road you gonna want to put a small body lift kit plus it will make it look way better best one to get is the h3 alpha with the adventure package in 09-10 so you’d get both front and rear lockers lux package is nice to have so you have the heated and power seat plus the monsoon subwoofer in the back but personally I’m a fan of cloth and the lux package has leather seats. The turn radius on it is great I think what I like most about it is that it’s just such a really fun vehicle to drive and it’s cheap so you don’t worry to much about getting a scratch on it and the ride feels better than a Jeep Wrangler but the solid front axle does help sometimes off-road rock crawling but for me it’s got a spot in my heart cause I’ve been in the back seat of these for 13 years and in the driver seat for 4 years

I bought a 2008 H2 Hummer in 2015. I now have 152,000 miles on it and I love it! Except I won't drive it in Snow or the rain...it's so front heavy it tends to not stop but slide to a stop. Luckily i have a garage and I take it out in nice weather. I daily drive is a Ford Expedition.(.my 3rd) I will say..I do love driving my H2 I like being high up and I have no problem with windows being so small. I don't like the front window being straight up and down..and the wipers being so small that when it snows. They tend to ice up really bad and the snow has no place to slide up to the roof and over or to the left or right side .it just cakes up on the wipers. I have no engine problems..no rust..no scratches or dents. Leather interior is mint. The only thing I did not know untill after my purchase was...IT Needs PREMIUM GAS ONLY! Who knew!! in 2008 and 2009 the H2 put a 6.2 L engine in and changes the gas quality to Premium. I don't complain on gas mileage because I get great mileage 14- 16 mpg around town and more on the highway!!

I bought a 2008 H3 Alpha a few months ago for a winter driver. Has 278,000 miles so obviously not mint condition, and the dealer did nothing to clean it out.. previous owner must have driven on a lot of gravel roads. Had a few issues mostly minor. Replaced headlight and fog light bulbs, some of the door post switches didn't work. No fluid leaks, but had to replace a sensor underneath the truck which cost 900 plus. And the yaw sensor which you can get on Amazon gor 30 bucks. The sensor location sucks though. Sucks down gas but plows through the snow without even trying.

The Atlas engines don't really share the standard small-block bell housing pattern, it's close but not the same. Input shaft is also different. Oh, and for some reason, the larger 4.2 Atlas I6 has a different crank bolt pattern than the 4 and 5 cyl versions so you can't bolt the manual trans from a 4/5cyl Colorado to the 4.2 without a custom flywheel
@legendsofcaraudiobradnewso8424
