It is ok to be new to the boating lifestyle. It was very nice to see the progress. Keep up with the work and learning. The journey is the memories you have forever.
Thanks Joe. I love that about rebuilding things. Sometimes the path is funnier than the destine. Im from a city almost 9000 feet over the sea level. Never thought about been a sailor and Im trying to enjoy every step in the way.
Dolphins know a good boat when they see one. Nice job. I like that you have done enough to go sailing and continuing a rolling restoration, rather than just sitting her on the hard and fitting her out. I was reminded of a cat that Learning the Lines reviewed in episode 115 on their channel; very similar layout, but different size and make. Thanks for sharing, keep on keeping on.
Thanks, I hope so. Because I have had a lot of work I havent been able to go to the boat again. But soon I will film more and share my experiences as a new sailor.
Hi, I am the 600th subscriber. Just accidentally bumped into your channel. I like your story about your newly bought catamaran. I wish it will makes your life full of great moments in future. I wish I could have the opportunity to have a catamaran like you. Good luck in chasing your dream. Oland Hisham Malaysia
Thanks I didnt know the channel has so many!! Im going to celebrate. Thanks for your wishes. I wish yo are having a great time also. Part of the idea of sharing this, is to encourage the people to follow their dreams. Usually that is not easy and sometimes dreams can become in nightmares, but if you pass that moment with a positive thinking you will find the reward. I hope I can upload a video really soon. Thanks for your encouraging comments!
The best way to fix Honda carbs is to replace them. They have a coating inside that alcohol destroys and it clogs every hole. Cleaning does not fix them. Do not use fuel that contains alcohol. It ruins the carbs. This happened to my 1995 Honda 50. Still have it and it runs great on 100% pure gasoline.
beautiful catamaran boat! You will get lots of subscribers if you continue with the high definition videos and showing the work that you're doing to your boat. Great idea moving into the boat, you'll get a lot more work done and don't forget to continue making those videos. I just subscribed after seeing this and this is my type of videos. Would love to follow your sailing adventures as well. . Please share pics or videos of the following: * how did you fix/replace the wooden flooring * what were done to the master berth up from bravo! beautiful first video, and please keep them coming! .
Thanks! Im in quarantine in my house, so I havent had the opportunity of filming/fixing/sailing but I have to prepare and start a trip soon. Im excited about it and I hope you guys go onboard with me and help me with ideas and recommendations. Thanks for the suggestions of what to film. Im going to talk about those repairs while I sail the boat.
@@hereandthereSailing Same, RU-vid suggested you, probably because we're obsessed with people fixing boats up at the moment. Hope all is well with you during all this craziness?! 🤞
Thanks a lot. My background is in Technology. Im not confident with painting or similar tasks but thanks to my neighbors improving everyday. Mechanics of a sailboat are kind of simple. Sailing is simple also. If you plan correctly, 95% of the time traveling is perfect, the problem is getting ready for that unexpected 5% with a low budget. This summer I sailed to Exumas. Sharing the water with sharks, dolphins and pigs was spectacular, but the best was living a totally different live unhook and depending only by myself and by the sailing community.
I love it. That brand is really good. I started really cheap just cleaning the carbs, changing sparks plugs, pump and regular maintenance. But after everything is looking better Im investing in changing parts to make it more reliable. Thanks
Thanks! Sure , I will continue filming. I use to sail single handed so Its much more difficult do everything at the same time. The photo of the video is part of a video that I filmed the first day I used the spinnaker. I dont have too much experience with my little drone but I really wanted to film. So I took the change. But the speed of the boat was greater than the maximun speed of the drone. So I had to run and turn on the engine and put that in reverse. That decresed the speed a litlle but enough. Then, grabbing the drone was another show. That was really fun and stressful.
Thanks. Nice been connected with somebody who lives so far. My wifes next goal is visiting Africa. I hope she saves a lot of money and carry me. Keep in touch.
You are right. Newer models have a fold able table. But right now I dont need more beds. Maybe some space for food. In few days or weeks Im going to start a long trip and then other priorities will show up.
You have good taste! Im thinking about doing some videos telling a little more about the repairs I have done while sailing or doing other things, and telling a little more about the good and bad things that I experience during the process of being a sailor. I hope that helps others that want to take the same path and me when others with more experience write comments.
Yeah, its a Gemini 3000. I didnt know anything about boats at that time but I was very lucky that boat is very easy to work on. I dont want to talk as an expert teaching how to fix it, maybe Im going to make another video telling about my misses and hits after miles of use.
Hi buddy. Nice work... U mentioned the carburetor keeps getting dirty... not sure as u didn't show it, but u may want 2 check ur fuel tank & lines... sounds like they need a clean/replacing. I'm assuming u got rid of any old fuel that came with the boat when u bought it, as u can't trust/use that..! Or u could add an inline fuel filter temporarily right by the engine... if u go that route keep some spares with u... Hope that helps.
Thanks. I didnt change all the lines. There were some lines that had a S shape that are not on sale. So after checking those I preferred to keep them. Last time I clean the carb that failed most #1 I found that a jet had a very hard dirt and after cleaning really hard that improved a lot and havent failed since. I had to use the engine a lot the last day so I think the engine is really close to be ready. However, I bought that jet for all the carbs so that will be the first thing to do when I go there. That will be my first video fixing something. I hope I can share those videos for people that want to go the same way and you guys to help me/us with your tips and recommendations.
Inspiring. Curious what the boat cost initially . I gather you put in around 6- 7 k after that. Someday i.e. in 7 years i want do this and need to find someone to go with :-). Nice to sail and visit islands.
The price was around 10K, 5k in parts and Dinghy , matresses etc. But everything can change a lot depending of the boat. Im very happy with the project because I wanted a cheap catamaran, EASY to fix and maintain. I think Gemini 3000 is the easiest. But as a business I think the best way is buying a bigger and more expensive one.
What u pay for it if u not mind me asking, I'm looking at a small one currently and have no idea about boats or sailing, I'm willing to learn. I'm yet to put in an offer. I'll send u pics for ya reference if that's ok
The price of an old boat depends of a lot of things. I paid around 10k but I had to work a lot on it. The electronics didnt work neither the engine. A ready to sail boat like this could be around 30k.
@@hereandthereSailing I went and viewed it today, it's not a rdy to sale.. It's a ply self built cat, he's asking 28 and I spoke with a experienced boat builder at the marina and he said 15.. What year a footage is yours again?
Cool. I had a great time with that boat. Then we moved to a Laser II. That one is more comfortable for 2 and still fun and challenging, but a little too much for just one sailor.
Thanks. I will continue sharing my experiences so other people can help me in this learning process and I can help other people that want to do something similar.
My friends dinghy has a motor that looks really antique but works perfectly. My boat's engine is a 2001 honda 30hp. Not new but those motors work a long time in a sailboat. My dinghy has a tohatsu 8hp and it is used as a backup also.
Not now. I found pieces of the hatches and repaired the frames. Then I put new crystal-plastic. Im not having leaks, so I will wait. New hatches are expensive. I painted just the top with Seal-Krete Epoxy-Seal 1-part White Tintable Satin Garage Floor Epoxy. Im happy with that. My neighbor gave me a lot of tips. He has restored a lot of sailboats and wrote a book or two. You can look for that on amazon: Sailboat Cowboys flipping Post-sandy
Yes. Thats a great design. At least for an entry level catamaran. I have heard that sometimes the marinas charge double but usually no. The only problem is that the boat doesnt have to much room in the sides so when the tides change a lot I have to tie the boat in a way that never touches the sides and never tension the ropes too much. That makes me nervous when Im going to say good bye to the boat for weeks.
I saw a guy said in facebook this one is very affordable, but I havent check that info: www.boattrader.com/boat/1987-gemini-sailing-cat-7782103/?fbclid=IwAR1LT9pAjM8TleVSaX3hidt1itQRPNtTTYZX1VB1qQQOCS-OMZ1hB4J1Sic
Hola buenas tardes....
WHY? Do first time sailors have cat eyes....... over and over I watch as new sailors buy over priced junk catamarans that you can see daylight through the hulls. Oh they are very lite so I can go fast. REALLY? I suggest you check out Bobby White at Sailings Doodles. Look at the almost 60 foot mono he got for $130,000 dollars. He’s out sailing on a sea worthy boat and you are going to be working on a ? Sailboat for years and never have a good boat. Oh well! Can’t say I didn’t tell you....
I cant talk for everybody but I think that some people are looking for a RV that floats, not necessary fast, or "good sailboat" but something they can travel with comfort. I was not looking for something to live on, just for occasional trips. The boat is functional and not that ugly now. So the next time I drive to the boat I will start a long trip. As allways that I travel far, Im scary/excited. I will post how everything is going.
