Im going to miss watching you struggle in the home garages. This was like the as much as you can do at home channel. Looking forward to all the new projects but keep it real for us dirt bags every now and again.
Blew a motor on a 2017 A6 3.0t, swapped it at home on jack stands. Can confirm, the engine will come out the front but the front clip needs to be removed. Not as hard as it sounds and the job took me 38 days (includes waiting time for parts.) Good luck and I wish I could help turn wrenches! Funnest quaratine project ever!
@@chadriddle3517 should be able to get an in line canbus that plugs into the headlight and wire harness from the led manufacturer or online somewhere. You can also get a fault equalizer that you wire into the wires themselves that will correct the voltage being detected by the computer and should clear the codes. I would suggest the canbus as its way easier to deal with.
You are right, they probably installed the cheapest one in the market, I bought a set of Philips LED fog lights that already came with the CANBUS integrated.
You know, having a shop with a public fridge is a recipe for disaster when it comes to lunches and left overs. You got those, what I like to call "fridge floaters/fridge raiders", etc that go inside the fridges and pillage whatever they can, (btw LOVE LOVE doctor pepper,) this way he can see if his left overs are still available!
It can be pulled out the front, maybe 4 hours worth of work to pull it. I've done it 4 times on c6 a6s. I'm down to help with information and or parts.
Take the one building with a ton of doors and make it rented space for mechanics wanting to work on their own vehicles. Could also offer rented tools, rack, etc. Provide a place to drain fluids. That could generate some fun videos and you could offer some lessons too.
Really excited to see all of the plans you have for the shop come to fruition. The fancy fridge is a great start and I'm jealous as I've wanted one of those since they came out 😄
Had to pause the video halfway through to comment. When I saw JR cut to himself talking in the warehouse about troubleshooting the Audi it just felt right. For him to turn around, massive workroom and cars behind him, and discussing a project... this just feels right, man. This is exactly what you and the channel needed.
Not only do you need a wheel lift tow truck, you also need a Coke machine. We had one in our body shop and it was awesome! It was the old style that took the cans or bottles, you put your money in it open the door and twist what you wanted. The bottom rung was always out of order because that's where we kept the cold beer!
I had an S4 with the same 3.0supercharged. a flap broke off inside the intake and one bank leaned out. everytually seezed the engine. Low milage untuned car. Audi life
Doesn't the flap breaking off throw a code? I know the vario ram intake manifolds in some Mercedes have the same issue but usually the check engine light turns on.
Be sure to film draining the engine oil on that locked up 3.0T V6 to see how much coolant comes out first. The PCV rubber seal fails/goes flat and leaks coolant into the oil on those 3.0T and 3.2 V6 Audi engines. Had to replace the 3.2 V6 engine in my friend's 2008 A5 coupe for the exact same reason and he bought it with a locked up engine too!
Your best video yet, that ive seen, having fun, buying new stuff for cheap whilst having fun, smashing out an engine swap just like that, and some 80's style music thrown in. Whats not to like ??
We use big graco oil drain carts and have a pump w a couple ball valves that goes straight from the fitting on the carts to the waste oil tank. Pretty trick setup if u ask me
Looks like a good deal! I have decided that we should all get together and start a fund to get JR a robotic third arm to hold his camera. ..he needs it. Good luck with this one it looks like a really nice vehicle, Cheers from the UK, Bob
Interested in this one, in middle of doing a complete top end rebuild on a 2008 Audi A6 3.2. Timing chain tensioners went bad, chain skipped timing and destroyed both heads. Not many guys doing Audi’s, great pick!
Just a crazy thought, Use the "small" warehouse as your shop and store your cars in the big one. You will save yourself a ton on heat and lighting alone and still have plenty of room for 1/2 dozen projects at the same time including a paint and body shop. And you will still retain the big warehouse if you need to grow into it. Oh and that big steel rack? If you got busy with a torch and welder you could actually rack cars on it (using the forklift you haven't got yet.)
JR, I am "super pumped" to see you thrive. Congratulations on your new shop and I can wait to see this A6 engine swap in your own new shop, with your own lift and your crew. All the best for the holidays and a super pumped 2021!!
Most Audi quattros use torsen for awd and not haldex. Only Audi I know that uses haldex is Audi S1, Audi A3, Audi S3, and the Audi TT. Love your videos John Ross keep it up!
Hey JR, that engine will come out the front, it is just a huge job to remove the front end first (Loads of screws bolts and clips) The issue most have is that they stop after only being able to put the front end in Service Mode/Position.
Hmm. Looks like you need another Car Ninja inspired tool "The Engine Table". He makes engine out look so easy with that thing. Thanks JRGo, glad to see you making such great progress. Nice floor BTW. 😎😎😎 I hear Tyler Hoover has a nice sorted Bentley He'd be willing to part with . . . Ho, ho, ho.
I had one of these cars. My favorite car. Was always a blast to drive and still looks great in 2020! ( its my favorite car because of the Daily aspect of it, it drives amazing and can get excellent power out of it. Mine had a stage 3 tune running on 98 octane pushing 400hp )
I saw a lot of codes for the Tiptronic transmission or CVT, I had an 04 A4 and CVT died. Audi said it was not serviceable and I just got ride of it. But I wish you the best of luck. Back then I found a company that rebuilds the TCM but I needed it to get to work
While the engine is out, I recommend swapping the crank pulley with a solid one (they have a layer of isolation rubber that fails eventually), and maybe doing all the stuff under the SC (water pump, PCV, thermostat). Those are the three main fail points on these. Otherwise they're pretty stout. The other risky thing is the DSG transmissions if they haven't been maintained (assume they have them like my S4), so replace the transmission fluid and filter.
I have pulled a motor from an A6 out the front before. It was not fun, but is possible. The hardest part is getting everything unhooked from behind the intake under the cowl.
I know that I will never own my own race track, or own a mountain top home with the funds to build a shop and own a helicopter, but dammit JR, I will own a warehouse one day. It will keep my eclectic 80's-90's-00's car collection. You give me true obtainable hope.... keep it up.
Same car as mine. If you get new wheels I have first dibs on the peelers! I also believe that the exact spec of yours is the premium plus with sport package which adds those wheels and upgraded suspension.
I was privileged to visit the site of the world's first remote video camera (preceded the web), in the tea room at the Cambridge University computer science laboratory. It let you determine if there was coffee available.
That engine comes out the front very easy, just remove the front bumper with the radiator support ,crash bar headlights that it..the take out the bolts from the transmission very easy job
Get Johnny to start a RU-vid channel, it would probably just be him smiling and not talking but hes a really likeable person and his shop and equipment its interesting. Like that hydraulic table, man I was bringing that up in conversation for a couple days. Now I'm curious how you drop an engine out the bottom without one.
The Lisle oil container, get the optional lisle transmission drain pan for it, and simply set it on top, it will make your life a TON easier not trying to aim oil into that little red spout all the time. Your floor and shoes will thank you later.
As someone who has purchased MANY (100+) vehicles from Copart, I can say two things: #1) Copart has THE ABSOLUTE WORST customer service of any company I've ever dealt with, and #2) you have to be INCREDIBLY careful when buying because there are SO MANY unscrupulous d-bags and scammers who sell cars there...and don't care AT ALL about screwing unsuspecting people over...it is absolutely crazy. I have never been screwed over there but that is because I ALWAYS check vehicles out very closely and I assume ANY VEHICLE without a key will need an engine or a transmission. I am constantly amazed by how incredibly unwise and ignorant people are when bidding on vehicles there.
Check your timing chains, guides, etc while you have the opportunity to. The chains are located in the rear of the engine and you have to split it from the transmission to get to it. My chain slipped a sprocket at 60,000 miles. Fortunately it only jumped one tooth so it didn’t junk the engine, but was a very expensive repair nonetheless.
First thing to do with any car on a scanner. Clear the codes!!! Then test drive (or in this case power off and back on) and see codes re-appear. If the battery has been disconnected for X amount of time VAG cars go nuts.
I do alot of work on audi's so basicly audi makes it so you have to take it to them for anything you might have unpluged. so if some one changed the light bulbs and error wil stay on. try clearing your codes before droping any money into and see what happens. and yes audi engines come out the bottom. leave it attached to the subframe when you bring it down and you will be golden.
Well, they were until they started making fluid couplings (i.e. just like Haldex) and calling them Torsens still. Fortunately this Audi has a real Torsen Type C in it, so yeah, way better. The good old days. Even Audi quit using Torsens and started making their own crown gear based setups that sound like they might actually work even better due to tolerating higher torque splits than the venerable Torsens.
Last couple videos was about talking how its going to be a struggle to pay for the warehouse and today we bought a Audi A6 LMAO I like the way you think.
Epc I believe has to do with the key and programming . I have a audi myself and I had a jetta lost the key to and it had that Epc light with a arrow around it. . Also I just realized and discovered there is storage under the front 2 seats on the bottom of the butt cushion . Check yours out .
Im going to be in your area for the next few days with nothing to do. If you need any more help with the shop or anything let me know . it will cost you a couple of those Dr pepper's. Lol. As far as the name for the shop how about the Do what you want to do garage. Also i would love to show you the big brother to your volvo. I picked up an 06 volvo v50 for under 2k and nothing worked in it. A 10 dollar can of electonic cleaner and a fuse later almost everything working and drove across country with it. What can I say you inspired me. Lol
@Social Outcast Warren Buffett also still lives in the same house he's lived in for more than fifty years and drives a decades old vehicle. He didn't become a multibillionaire by throwing his money away. Yet you read about these rookie NBA players and young rappers blowing their cash on silly cars, gas guzzling trucks and high end sports and luxury cars. The fame and athletic ability doesn't last and neither does that entourage. Just ask MC Hammer or old sports stars. Bo Jackson has done relatively well for himself since fading from the spotlight. So has Michael Jordan.
I found a 2007 A4 (B7) 2.0T from my local IAA for 500$ Run and Drive. Just needed a timing belt and Cam Chain Tensioner, 8500 miles later, shes my daily.
Just bought a VCDS from England for $89 on eBay. Worked exactly like the Ross Tech, unlimited VIN‘s. Not sure how they do it, not asking. Great for your shop if working on VW products.
@@thomaslefler5242 Yeah, but with that savings comes zero support from Ross-Tech. I have had to use it many times. The cable you buy from them is registered to the buyer. Their customer support and or forum support has resolved many issues I had. You won’t get that with a pirated copy. I have seen them flat out deny those people information.
@@Whole_Leash_It don’t disagree with you, and understand why they have that policy. But for as many times as I use it as a DIY’er, the cost is prohibitive. I am working on older vehicles that most of the processes are posted on the web. But I understand your point.
The cracked armrest above the center console is peek Audi. I can count on 1 hand the amount of Audi’s over 5 years old that the leather isn’t cracking bad
