I bought a CHEAP FORD C MAX. How bad is it? 

I've got that same model I love it you are correct you do blend in and not stand out in it but I like that about it👍👍 we are onto our third c max so they can't be that bad😉😉

I have 2003 Focus Cmax. "Inherited" it as my first car. We had it from new and it was i think the most reliable car in family. 1.8l Duratec HE Gasoline. Only thing i would change is 5speed gearbox to 6 speed one but otherwise as im 1.95m tall, it is damn confortable and when i do taxi for my grandparents. They preffer it to other family cars. Wanted to keep it until it breaks down. Well it holds for 12 years, with only alternator died. Otherwise only some minor issues like sensor dies, wheel bearings. Which do not count. True its grey mouse car. But i would never change. Its reliable work car. Good cargo capacity. Damn comfortable and for me reliable and fixable. 7.5l/100km but when i drive gently i can do 6.2+-. Non to little rust so i hope it will last for few years more. Not sure if others but mine is quite sensitive on fuel. When i fill up tank on certain pump stations, it feel lazy. While other cars are OK with it.

What a good idea Ford had all those years ago with that bonnet release mechanism… sadly many years later their customers discovered it wasn’t that robust😢

All the seats come out ,and leaves a space big enough for a decent bed,for a day wagon

I loved my c max 1.8 petrol took me from Newcastle to Wales many many time and never let me down

@1:13 The gearbox options are very interesting in this gen. Petrol versions only came with a 5-speed manual whereas the Diesel version had 6-speed and 6-speed "Powershift" options as well. @23:02 Yeah, but if you are a large lad, space and comfort are more important. Having to bend over just to find a comfortable seating position is not everyones' cup of tea.

I did say that BCA won’t pay you back for that bodywork. It’s not like you didn’t expect that really… I can’t believe that their appraisal team missed that sticker on the inside of the door. They check the leading edges of doors for drips and paint blending. If they spotted it tho they would of peeled it off P.s sometimes you need to do a software update as the ECU may have to talk to the alternator. It did on my wife’s 2005 Range Rover to get it to work

I have a 14 plate cmax 1.6 diesel with 54k on the clock, love it as its easy for me to get in and out of due to a disability. Had it for 3 years and no problems, regularly serviced which helps.

I hadn’t had to have a car for nearly a decade bc I lived in Seattle and had no need. However, I recently moved to Illinois and found a 2015 C Max on Carvana. I totally love this car. 42 mpg, handles well, all wheel drive is great in the snow and rain, great acceleration for a hybrid, and excellent interior space. I’ve carried 25 10 pound bags of mulch in this car, as well as, chairs while shopping. Overall, I’m very satisfied

Great video and yes that bonnet release cable I've recently replaced it on my 2010 focus. The problem is the cable itself that seems to weaken after all the twisting . Stupid idea.

My nostalgic car! This was my second car I owned!! Bought it from my mum. Although mine was black and definitely seen better days..

My wife had a 2008 Focus while I had a 2008 C-Max (1.8 tdi) at the same time. I loved that c-max; loads of space for the kids, plenty of pull to keep it interesting and a nice comfortable ride. I HATED driving her Focus, I could never find a comfortable driving position, it was sluggish (granted it was a 1.6 petrol) and a piddly little boot. C-Max for the win!!

the C-Max is more the "family friendly" version of a vanilla focus. its not flashy, its not a car that sticks out and you see/have seen enough to prove they're work horses. the zetecs of that era were not well equipped (from what i remember, the zetec was the next step up from the LX) to be fair, 113k on a duratec is just about ran in. they're pretty much indestructible as long as you keep them maintained. the christmas tree dash i would have guessed it suffered the cluster fauly which was a common issue for the focus and the CMAX of this era. surprising that all that was caused by a bad alternator. If i seem a little "too" knowledgeable, I own an '05 Mk2 Ford Focus. SUPER rare 3 door, 2.0 petrol, titanium spec (so leather, AC, electric mirrors/windows, quickclear screens, auto lights/wipers etc) which is starting to show her age a little. had it for 13 years. suits my needs perfectly. fast, reliable and IMO a cool looking car that blends in to the background. (I much prefer the PFL styling)

Up until the end of december , My mum was driving about in a 15 plate black C-Max Zetec. I grew sort of attached to it. Max the cmax was really reliable until she needed nearly a grand spending on getting her fully fixed (Service , suspnsion work , cambelt esc) So we traded her in for a 19 plate Sportage. Sportage is nice but i still miss the cmax's little "Quirks" aka cosmetic damage & slightly dodgy electrics

Had one of these 1.8 petrol. Had issues with eml and other electrical gremlins. Local mobile mechanic came and took some codes. Guy was brilliant traced the problems to broken wires in the loom that pass through a plastic box near battery (it's a weak point, loom gets moved around over a tight bend and wires chaff inside, break and make contact with each other) . Charged me £20 for code reading and another £40 to fix by soldering the broken wires . Car was nice to drive and versatile but I didn't like the electric handbrake on mine.

Not a bad little car I quite like them the duratec sounds nice, hope you get it back working, I drive a 21 focus fabulous little car 😀

I had one of these, the rear grey plastic ‘spoiler’ was letting in so much water, I just took it off and siliconed all of the bolts that held it on, was fine after that 😂

I used to have a mazda 5 and its the same car , body and underneth. I believe the engines were seprate and the 2.0 turbo diesel i had was rapid. The mazda felt setup diffrently also. It felt like go kart like. Really fun

I was gifted a 10 plate 1.6 petrol that I use as my runaround. Its an inoffensive car around town, quite a pleasnt drive but on the open road the asthmatic 1.6 is way too noisy, too high geared and woefully slow.

Have one of these myself the powersteering fault and engine light aways comes one when the battery drained or knackered the damp carpet in the back is the boot door seal along the top and bottom of is not sealing correctly

There is also a bonkers intermittent electrical fault on those, where the dashboard lights up like a Christmas tree, the Speedo and Rev counter lose all touch with reality, then all is OK for a few weeks or days. Not sure if it was sorted on the later one’s after 2007 with the orange digital display? Source I’ve owned Some Focuses ( foci?)

I physically go to the auction bud and do a mileage check and mot check when I'm looking as auctions will just do you as quick as look at you.

My smax had a new alternator and for the few years it lasted it liked to throw on battery light. It was like a smart charge issue as when light was on drop down 13.7v were as light off was 14.4. died in the end and just put a genuine 2nd hand oneon.

I had a 2008 cmax from new and the bumpers look different from the shell and a design floor means they eat alternators, I sold mine with 25k miles 4 years old with a new alternator

I've just replaced a Mitsubishi asx 18 reg with a C Max 17 reg as the asx was too high for me to get into and ordinary cars are too low. It's a shame most car manufacturers have ditched mpvs for suvs as there is much to be said for the mpvs

That to me looks like it's got the cluster problem of dry solder joints on the back extremely common on that era of ford I've had many lol I had a cmax exactly the same same engine and it had over 200k miles on it good cars for a cheap run around

It's a mad world currently...this is the type of car I could get for a few hundred quid a few years ago....quick spruce up and 995 with a warranty.Astra's Golf's Megane's(paid 75 for a 2001 back in 2017), now its five grand for a 2012 Fiesta.Correction needed soon.

My mother-in-law has got a 2008, titanium model 1.8 L petrol also has issues with battery light showing. It’s had a brand-new Ford alternator at great expense but still the battery light is showing… Any ideas what to check next?

It is a dangerous practice on modern cars to connect the black lead directly to the battery (assuming a -ve earth of course) far better earth it to the engine or body as sometimes there are sensors on the -ve side, there is also the danger of blowing up the battery, don't believe me?, do some research. The other things with jump starting are start/stop engines, make sure you read your owners book, many an owner has regretted both the aforementioned, I own that Topdon and it's great.

Had 26 cars since 86 3 Capri s 4 Mondeos and 2 C max , C Max were ok didn't like the electric handbrake and putting a litre of oil in the 1st 1 soi traded it, was hitting the floor or smoking, think valve stem seals starting to go

Looking at getting this exact car as I need a vehicle that fits my wheelchair. Don't have many options as I don't want to drive a van, I plan to cover it in colourful stickers, to me it's a blank canvas. 😂🎉

I had one needed a turbo quoted a grand only got £1250 in part exchange.

My just died after many many years. Gearbox and clutch failure. I did make a mistake by buying the 1.8tdi but it did do me well and its taken me around Europe many times. Ford's are good cars.

I got the 2 Liter. Try this one. My its a 2005 and i love this car. Car parts are cheap. And i got LPG too. Try Koni Yello Suspension. I enjoy driving with this car cause its really Handy.

my sister had a 57 plate 1.6 petrol c-max never let her down always started 1st turn of the key. i did regular oil changes every 5000 miles it just ran and ran and ran. she used to run me up to hospital in it as im disabled found it easyer to get in and out of than a focus. she p/x it for a 2013 grand c-max 1.6 tdci with 80,000 miles on it and fsh and that has turned out to be the biggest pile of unreliable junk she has ever baught, left her stranded at the motorway services with three kids, took two days for the recovery company to pick it up and get it back to her. so i set to work with f-super . egr valve stuck open clogged up(removed it scraped most of the soot/carbon off with a screwdriver then mr muscle oven cleaner left it to work while i had a coffee then scrubbed it out with a babys bottle brush..and after that a quick blast of brake clean..came out perfect), 4 new injectors, new diesel filter(low fuel pressure at rail, diesel filter looked like it was full of sludge....cheap tescos fuel at its best) and full oil and filter,air filter and glow plugs(as only 1 was working), and a can of bg244k finally got the pile of scrap running right again...for now! the zetec petrols dont seem too bad but the newer tdci above 2008 seem to be nowt but problems done a few of them.

Typical damp smelling Ford Cmax, my dad had a 08 1.6tdci and that always smelled damp! And the body work started to go in similar area to this. I hate the idea that Ford use to open the bonnet

ive just paid £1000 for a 2005 1 owner,89,000 mile jam jar (car),its smooth,no rattles and bangs,every think works as it should,and as i sold my 2009 panda, for £650 its only cost me £350,thats magic,yes

Never understood where the C max was positioned. The B max of that era was quite good and if you wanted bigger you got a Galaxy. A C max seemed to be a Galaxy without the extra seats and space and therefore pointless.

I have a remapped 1.8 diesel cmax and a 2.0 litre diesel focus , cmax all the way , faster , in fact ridiculously fast.

In fact I'd say it's almost as good as my favourite car I've owned the 2.5 v6 Vectra or the 3.0 litre Granada cosworth. Just saying.

I had a 2 litre c max 2009 auto. Was so so reliable. Had 136,000 miles before it was sold on. Was sold for around £2000 and had 0 issues with it. One bad thing was it used sooo much petrol. Average mpg was 28 which is horrendous

Presumably you pay £600 for a car like this instead of knocking the same amount off the car the buyer PX'ed on? How much is it worth for scrap and parts?

I'd hpi it bud, bet its recorded as a bit light on history and the bumper, tbh it's a total dog, I'd try it at 595 as is,but as you'll know nobody wants work, even at cheap money. I try to avoid p exs as too often they are like these.

Not bad cars, the 1.8 petrol is an old Mazda derived lump. Chain driven cams so no belt, ulez compliant but a bit noisy at motorway speeds. The Cmaxes are easier to get in and out of than a Focus so do appeal to the mobility-challenged.

Couldn't Ford have been more imaginative with the body design? Their European cars seem to be such a weird mix of good and awful design (Focus, C-max, Fusions, etc...) and riddled with annoying and stupid design decisions.

The person who gave that much for it on part ex wants a disciplinary… 1.8 and the 5 speed? Awful combination. They really needed a 6th if it is anything like the Focus of that era
