Used to have one of these when I was young with a famous 1.9 tdi engine. Perfectly reliable, kept it in the family and it clocked freaking 750.000 km before getting crashed into and written off.

we had a golf 4 station that did 650.000km and it was still going but since it was a golf 4 it was rusted out but we sold the engine and gearbox for 1250 euro and then the car it self went for another 750 so after buying it brand new and driving the hell out of it it still earned us 2k and we had it for like 13 years

Back in 2006 I bought a 3-door Polo like this one. Great car, kept it for 12 years. Much simpler than today's cars, easy to use and without any serious issues. ...and without a million different sensors.. 😅

I was given one of these 3 years ago. A 1.4tdi with 160k on the clock. It’s now done over 170k and just keeps going probably my most reliable car. It’s still on the original clutch too!

This is the video I have been waiting for. I had a 2009 one of these in the same colour. Got it in mid 2021 as my first car with 35000 miles. Sold it last June with 56000 for a new Nissan Micra. Oh boy do I have regrets. This car was an absolute banger. Took it round Germany twice. Admittedly drove alittle fast while in Germany. But having a VW Polo was the pinicle of Sixth form for me and an absolutely amazing car and to whoever bought it after me. I hope she looks after you as well as she looked after me.

In 1991, £2500 bought me my second car, a six year old high spec 29000 mile Rover 213SE with full service history, a lovely plush little 4 door saloon. Nowadays, apparently, £2500 will only buy me a 16 year old base model 3 door 3 cylinder Polo with no service history. How times have changed.

The Valeting worked wonders on this car. The seats especially looked brand new, and the colour just popped out in this video. It really did transform the inside of the car. Well done to the guys at the Valeting shop👍 Hope the investment works out great for you, Matt👍

Have a Polo 14tdi on a 04 plate, 110k on the clock, had it for 7 years, it meets my needs and service it every year, all filters and oil, any advisors always get sort, found it a good little car for me, been all over the country in it, just an honest bit of transport, had the same issues with the boot struts, made me laugh 😂

We had the same.....it was the best car we ever had. It was 2 years old when the wife had it, then it got passed around the kids as a first car. It drove and handled really good. We got rid at circa 140k and it was still on the road near 180k.....this was the era of reliable vw's.....not so much now. Just use good oil and filters and you wont go too far wrong.....

Hi Matt, I enjoy watching your videos, it's good to see you keep older cars going for longer and the pit falls thats can be overcome (usually at your expense). It would be good if you could do a follow up video on the cars you have prep'd and if/when they sold and if you did get your asking price....

I have had my vw polo 1.2 2010 for 4 years since I passed my driving test. It’s on 98,000 now and still going strong. Regular services and well looked after. And I love it 💪

If you do 6k mile oil and filter changes and keep an eye on the level, you can feel free to ignore all the hate for the 1.2 CGPB and CGPA engines - they're a brilliant engine if you look after them, but sadly too many people follow the manufacturer oil change intervals (i.e. neglect them) and then blame the engine for problems.

Cool. The first car I bought brand new was a Polo 2002, TDI. I got it with 5 doors, sport seats and Climatronic. It was one of the first cars of that generation, and it had a lot of issues. The turbo blew up after 450 kilometers, and ownership over 3 yeas sent me to the dealerhip about one a month. Also, my frenchie got sick in the back seat at one point. It took me ages to clean. However, after I sold it, it soldierd on for many years and made it to over 300 000 kilometers before it died.

I like this shape Polo. Not a fan of the 3 cylinder, my sister had a pre face-lift and it was gutless. I sourced my mother a 1 month old face-lift 2006 FSI Sport in Grey. She had it over 3 years and it was faultless, comfortable, good stereo and looked great. Sadly it met an early end as I saw photos of it a couple of years later in a breakers yard with the engine not looking too great...

This era of engine, I’ve flipped a few of these, can’t go wrong with a polo. However, the engines BBZ BKY etc are all disaster prone for piston slap, headgaskets, coil packs etc. they are really reliable until about 70k miles. What’s new? Lol. I’ve literally just done a headgasket and top end rebuild on an 03 polo, no reason why it can’t do another 70k. Keep em comin Matt!

I have a BBY engine on my 04 ibiza with 90k miles, they all seem to have coil pack issues as it was a early design flaw, bought a couple new coil packs a while ago and no problems since. Regarding the piston slap it seems to be ubiquitous for these engines but it doesn't seem to cause any problems other than a weird sound. Other than that the engine hasn't had too many problems, i changed the timing belt recently and the oil consumption is roughly 1litre/5000 miles so not too bad, i change oil/filter every 5000 miles or so hopefully the engine doesn't blow up any time soon.

@@aden3113 eventually the piston slap gets so bad it starts getting past the piston rings then it’s game over. But I have seen these engines on over 130,000 miles.

You didn’t mention the possible engine mount problem causing the engine noise: was it ok ? Thought the 3cylinder engine was ok having chain rather than cam belt. Great video.

You need to do another Jeep Grand Cherokee review but this time the 4th gen 2011-2021 WK. just rewatched your old one from 3 years ago. Newer ones are so much nicer. Just picked up a 2016 grand Cherokee limited with the 3.6L V6…..overlands are even nicer but I didn’t need the adjustable air suspension nor did I want to deal with a possible repair. The face lifted ones from 2014 on were nicer overall with better equipment.

Was it worth it? Definitely Yes. Cheap to purchase, reasonable cost to bring it back to life and as you say it will sell quickly. Two cars like that each day is a good earner I reckon.

I paid £800 for a 2 litre, 19yr old golf about 7 years ago. I drove that car the Scottish Highlands twice, Dover and everywhere in between, had a job doing heavy mileage every month. Very, very reliable car. Scrapped it for £350

Whats funny is small cars in the US are actually more expensive to insure because they are so dangerous to drive and normally top the most likely to kill you list. I drive a Honda Fit and I am very certain I would die hitting a tree. I would not survive a hit with another car of any size even if it was my own. Im having major quality issues. Cheap cars here Ive learned have terrible quality. Another reason people slowly stopped buying them Im sure. Cant wait to be rid of the thing and get into something more sustainable and cheaper. Will miss the mpgs though.

My wife bought a new one of these, red - 2003 - and drove it to 2010, 29k on the clock. Car was ok but the VW dealer tried to imply it needed new shock absorbers, just out of warranty and various other items coming in at £600. Took it to my garage. Just needed one spring and one fuse. Servicing done at my local garage from then on. It is still running somewhere. Not spectacular, but reliable - unlike the dealer.

I had one years ago 06 plate in 2006 to 2010, then one about 8 years ago had another one they are ok in a straight line around a corner they are a brick on wheels, got a fiesta far better to drive or a clio.

Interesting you say they aren't good engines. In 2018 I bought an identical one (9n3 Match) with the 1.2 engine for £1800, it randomly wouldn't start and upon a Google I read comments about the chain slipping. Took it to WBAC and they gave me £2000 for it - win!

This model of the Polo is the best of the marque of that model. We have a 1.4 5 door Match that we have owned at least 7 years. Just over 100,000 miles. 1.4 petrol 16 valve. It’s ultra reliable and totally rust free. It lives outside all year round. I would have another one in a heartbeat.

I’ve got this car we got in second hand in 2012 and now I drive it when I passed my test last year, 70,000 miles and nothing wrong with it!!! Good cars, it was my mums then my dads now mine
