Watchmaking Vlog Episode 48
In this watchmaking episode, I return back. New place, new workshop and some new machines to help me on my watchmaking journey. A bantam CNC PCB Mill and a Nikon Measurescope.
These machines will assist to create computer models of the watch, and faster watch prototyping.
I jump in and start cutting the watch parts on the Bantam CNC, using Fusion 360.
I hope you enjoy this episode.

Dean, good to see you again. I’m glad to hear that you are in a better place. Depression is no joke. The Nikon looks like a winner. Without good measurement good machining cannot be had. Welcome back Dean. Glad to see you're doing ok. Particularly with everything else going on these days it's critical to take care of yourself. If you want to make more than one of something, unless it is a trivial thing to make, you need to find force multipliers to assist. Even with something like a CNC mill there is still a huge amount of manual and hand work required to complete a watch. I'm looking forward to following along.
@DeanDK
@DeanDK 3 года назад
Thanks so much, exactly my thinking, and still a lot of manual machining and hand work to go in. Especially since I only want for hole layout

Damn dude wtf. I was looking at benchtop vertical mills, I ended up buying one. Because at the time I couldn't really find information on if a desktop cnc would cut stainless steel for watch cases n it didn't seem like most in my budget were ridged enough. Idk if this machine is capable of that but as you said it's not worth milling everything by hand.i can cnc the machine but I'm not sure how fast it will be. I think I'll just get a couple blocks of aluminum and stainless to start and see if I can cut something out of it. I got it to make order stuff too but mainly cases since I can't find any I really love. I'll definitely be watching more.
@DeanDK
@DeanDK Год назад
Hi Michael, you’re right if you are cutting stainless these machines are definitely not rigid enough. I take 0.07mm passes in brass. These machines have good precision with high spindle speeds great for small cutters which I use.
