How weird is this, I'm here browsing CRT related videos and I came across your video... I'm the guy who sold this Trinitron to you! I hope you're still enjoying the CRT 😊 Love your setup too
No way! The internet is such a weird place sometimes 😂 Loving the CRT, definitely one of the best investments I've made in my retro collection! And thank you!
@@Lydgendary Well well well if u think this is the weirdest thing so I wanna tell u a secret crt have most fast milliseconds to seconds response time that every single modern monitor fail to deliver lol so yeah i guess this is weird that’s why i m here and I love retro setup I guess that why I’m here 😅
I really enjoyed this video. I love how it’s dark and stormy, the beach, lofi playing in the background, getting to go back home and set up your official retro gaming corner. It’s all so cozy, I love it 💙
A CRT hunt makes a good story and this is no exception. It looks really good in your gameroom. Also the fact you went on that drive to Bournemouth, filming the beach, getting what you came for and then see you enjoy yourself with it whilst listening to the video's music..it has the most calming effect on me. Gem of a vid. I'm still on the hunt for one myself and hope I can match the atmosphere here:)
Im 37 and i still have my sony trinitron from the 80s. We kept it forever lugging it accross the country and i still hsve it. Kept it for nostalgia.. and sentimental reasons becsuse my dad died when i was a kid. Plus i need it to play retro games that dont work very well on lcd
Nice! I think 14 inch CRTs are the best convenient size for retro gaming! Not too small, not too heavy and doesn’t occupy much space. The perfect fit in my opinion for 8, 16 and 32 bit consoles
@@BeatemupMaster A Sony 14 inch is indeed perfect, because of the wire mask. This makes the vertical resolution higher than many tridot screens at 20 inch. And the weight is so much better. A 14 inch Grundig will look much worse than a Sony because of its tridot mask. But there are exceptions. I've a 9 inch Philips with Loewe tube, and it has a super fine pitch, it is the nicest screen in my collection.
So jealous that y'all have RGB Scart so readily available, awesome. I've been able to remedy the problem for myself here in the US, thanks to HDRetrovision component cables, but it was a long and expensive endeavor getting all the various cables needed. Glad you are enjoying your CRT! It is definitely the way to go when possible.
No doubt!! So many North American TVs have RF or composite video only.. and that's total crap! lol We did get 60hz though.. so that sort of makes up for it.
@@mrburns366 Interesting thing tho is now days if you're in the UK you can import a US console and use it on a CRT as long as that console has RGB scart support and you have the cable with the correct wiring for ntsc you can get 60hz that way on a PAL CRT Unfortunately it doesn't work with other systems that only had composite or S video 😕 you'll get a black and white image looking at you the n64! But at least there's mods available to get RGB for certain systems I personally only use US consoles as I we got screwed over big time until the xbox 360 and ps3 era
@@HollowRick PAL format was always developed a step after NTSC... So a lot of our later CRTs could do NTSC just fine and PAL at 60hz for games that supported it. We have fewer TVs larger than like 28" knocking about and very few HD ready CRTs TV except like PC monitors.
Very nice. Love it. Congrats on the awesome tv. Looked like a beautiful rainy day too, my fav. Especially when going on a trip, rainy and dark but not pouring.
Good video, and I agree the old consoles look so much better on the old CRT's. Good to see the footage of Bmth. I live in Poole so just up the road. Shame it was raining for you! Nice video as always ;) x
I've picked up a few CRTs over the years where it has been about an hour drive. I always enjoyed the drive and grabbed some good food, did some sightseeing etc.... Makes for a fun day. Nice pickup!
Same here. I drove 3 hours to Los Angles to pick up two 20" PVMs and it was a little stressful drive but once I got them in my car it felt amazing. The next one I picked up was my dream set 27" FV310 for free 90 minutes away. The guy lived at a lake to so I just chilled and went fishing afterwards, it was so relaxing. I think I just buy CRTs now as an excuse to go on a fun driving adventure lol
concratulations for the fine tv. recommend getting RGB cables for your consoles cause they look gorgeous on a crt with it. at least those that support it. like PS1 and PS2, Mega Drive, SNES and Dreamcast :)
That's a really nice tv! Trinitrons rock. I still use my 14 inch Philips crt, a "vhs combo" set from 1997 somehow it's still in tip top shape. It's a testament to how well these things were manufactured.
Only the warm glow of a CRT will make those games look as the artists/devs intended, as well as play & feel as they should. A decent late 90s Sony Trinitron set will look especially nice, as will a JVC/Panasonic/Hitachi/Sharp/Toshiba, any 90s Japanese set basically.
Why do they make loud high pitch noises now tho? How do you deal with that noise. I've hooked up 3 crts one started smoking the other 2 make that squeal. So idk why I'm so unlucky 🤣.
@@kevin_kevinson Same reason audio equipment has coil whine, noise from the power line, a good power filter is pretty cheap. I have 15 CRTs, none have coil whine.
You actually filmed the game footage quite well. It is usually as easy as setting the frame rate to the Hz of the video system, so 1/50th for PAL and 1/60th for NTSC. My vintage Lumia phone does that on the fly. I was lucky to find a 4 to 1 RGB SCART switch at goodwill for 2€. Solid metal box! I've a clunky 21 inch with dual SCART and composite up front, and plans for a 14 inch pickup as well.
Awsome Little CRT I love it Europeans are so lucky to have scart on those small CRTs here in America. They only come with composite and It sucks, but it still looks pretty good on Trinitron’s
i've been contemplating downsizing my 27 inch sony crt to my 24 inch toshiba or one of my 22 inch sony sets (i have quite a few in storage and i live with my wife in a bachelor apartment). i like the larger size for multiplayer games like Mario Kart 64 or any split-screen multiplayer game for that matter, but the way you presented this video really showcases the benefits of having a small set without reducing the gaming experience too much. though, you are mostly playing single-player games, but still- nice work
This was an enjoyable video, especially with the unknown content that’s missing: such as the car problems and the two weeks gap before the video resumed. If everyone is like me we’d happily watch the more mundane stuff. That’s life right? We go to Bournemouth to buy an old telly and all sorts of stuff happens. We like stuff.
Besides i like how good trinitron technology looks, i think that slot mask is objectively better in everything. I have both trinitron and philips with slot mask, and slot mask is a big improvement. It is actually a reason why in 1999-2010 slot mask tvs became more popular. For less money it offered picture quality a much better than trinitron. But before 2000 trinitron truly was a king in tv technology
I already have three larger Sony Trinitrons (27” 4:3, 32” 4:3, 32” 16:9), but they are all flat screen and the larger two are much to heavy to move. I need to keep an eye out for a smaller Sony with the curved screen like yours so I can move it around a bit as needed. Nice video!
You gotta get the Retro Gaming Cables RGB SCART cables their PlayStation 1 and PlayStation 2 RGB SCART cables can have a GunCon port for Light Guns, their RGB SCART cables are all fully shielded
I wish our crts here in the US was all equipped with scart. Best mine has is component but I really like my 32inch Sony Trinitron. I understand the joy of getting a nice crt in this day and time. Lag is a problem with retro gaming with modern tvs. Glad there crts still available out there. Subbed.😊👍
I owned that exact model approx 1994-2001, played many a N64 & PS1 game on there 😌 It was one of the last old school TV's i had before the HDTV upgrade..
I love the beach 😊 Cool I think a small crt is just fine. I got a huge silver one but when I moved into my flat my partner already had that so I just kept and its just used now for the older consoles like my atari 2600 and sega master system and others but the flat screen in lounge my main mega drive mega cd looks amazing on there but can easily hook up to the old crt as well. But I do love the smaller crts very nice great pick up been loveing all your videos and your retro journey 😊 enjoy your new crt TV 📺 I love your retro corner does have a good vibe.
If you wanna do more CRT filming, try setting the shutter speed of your camera or phone to the framerate of the TV, most older PAL stuff would be 50hz, so matching the framerate would get rid of the black bars! you can do it pretty easily with something like DSLR camera on iPhone. adorable little CRT though!! getting a Scart cable for the Mega drive is gonna blow you away! especially when upgrading from RF!
@@Lydgendary yeah most phones don’t have it in the standard camera app, I’m pretty sure the DSLR app is on android as well, it cost me a buck or 3, but it’s well worth it, now I can’t stop taking scanline pics hahah
One of the greatest advantages is actually motion blur. If you pay attention to how blurry things become when scrolling on modern screens and how clear everything stays on CRT, you will love playing on CRT even more. Also, check if you can increase the height of the picture, you shoudln't have black borders at the top and bottom. As for your modern TV, make sure to put it in Game Mode (might be hard to find) or at the very least PC mode (which might be equally hard to find). It can decrease lag by quite a significant amount. Also, disable ALL post-processing. If it's called "Auto-blahblah" or "dynamic-blahblah", turn that thing off, all of them (they add a ton of display lag). Lastly, still regarding modern TV, find what your zero is on your sharpness setting (it's not always zero...). Get close to your TV, push the sharpness to the max, you will see white outlines on dark colours and black contours on bright colours. Those are sharpening artifacts, you want to avoid that. Now that you know what you're looking for (or rather what you want to eliminate), find the sweet spot where your TV doesn't do that. It will look blurry at first because you're most likely used to things being oversharpened, but you'll get use to it very fast and your eyes will ultimately thank you for that. Have fun!
Aaaah, oh to be in England now the Summer's here...(brrrr!). My tv is silver and, yes, yours does look better. I was just playing pong on my 70's Grandstand SD-070 that I picked up at a Retro market in Doncaster last year just before lockdown and amazed that it still works fine, those things were built to last!
That’s a really nice CRT tv. I’m hoping to either pick up a retro tink2x mini or rad2x so I can play my SNES on my flat panel tv. It’s not goning to be as good as your crt tv but it will be fun to play my old games, especially mario kart. Nice channel + subscribed 👍🏻
@@Lydgendary I work at a college and it's crazy how many are stored away unused . I took two 32" crts home a few years ago but gave them to someone as they were just too big. I already had a smaller one which I kept.
Really nice pick up. I've been living in the UK for 2 year now and I have noticed it is very difficult to find a good CRT TV, which isn't expensive or widescreen. Luckily I got one for 10 quid. But I'm still trying to find a good Sony Trinitron.
Try to connect the sound output to your hifi stereo system AUX input if you have.. enjoy high quality stereo sound..but of course your neighbors will be annoyed
CRT looking good, still have mine, Philips 36" from 2003, very heavy though! Get NTSC Consoles next, so you can play full screen/speed. Everdrives are good as well, save you ££ and space to boot, and you can play games with a SD2SNES that have been patched with SA-1 to remove slowdown in certain games.
Im literally gonna pick up a crt and its gonna b me swearing at ppl and giving them the finger on the drive because i need to restore balance to the earth after seeing such a zen/ low fi- chill video.
