Been Buying Salvage and Rebuilding in Linden NJ for 25 years ... I got one from 2012 Hurricane Sandy Flood Car from Long Island IAA. My inside guy at Brooklyn MB Dealer's Shop told me this almost new 2011 w 1,820 m E350 4Matic Sport was left on lowered lift inside shop, so no rust under seat rings, yet was X'd Out as a Total Mid-Door Flood Loss. A $70K Car New, my 2011 E350 4Matic Sport with Auction Fees,Tow with a total cost $14,800.00 that includes OEM accelerator pedal assembly, carpets and floor pans rinsed and cleaned and started right up. One year later had to replace lower mounted alternator, other then that, today I still own this Silver Gray Benz (was a BDay Gift for wife's 40th). She's a non smoker with no kids, 74k on a 12 year old car and still looks great. I was very lucky with this Flood Car but many other Rebuilders here in Jersey were not so lucky, so we only bought flood cars for parts ever since Sandy. I will soon sell it very very cheap to a friend for good continued Karma

The problems with flood is electrical and hidden mold, as long as you don't try to run the motor wet. Sea water will rust you out fast, so you have to rinse and recoat everything.

You misspelled "ugly." McLaren peaked with the F1. Even Corvettes are ugly now. Porsche is basically the last supercar maker still making cars that look good. They all have too much plastic and too many different lines going everywhere all at once. Lambos are the worst.

I know the smell. It's a smell I'll never forget. I spent 2 weeks after Hurricane Ian cleaning up the flood cars like this and delivering them to Copart yards like this one as an out of state vendor on the catastrophe team. That smells,sights and people I'll remember for the rest of my life. We spent most of our time dropping in clewiston but the punta gorda south yard was our secondary drop.

That kind of damage to carbon fiber car. If I were DOT i would never allow it to drive on public roads. Its not going to be safe ever. It was baarly safe with McLaren electronics not in salt water.

@@willpowr416 could be the case. I was thinking that long because parts would be expensive to come by and since there’s not that many P1’s in the world the parts themselves would be hard to find too. Although it could be a situation like the Bugatti’s who get the mansory treatment where the owners still have the original parts, all the P1 owners who went full carbon body still have those parts as well

My best friends dad had a Ferrari 480 flooded out in that hurricane and the damage the salt water did to the engine and drivetrain and electronics was absolutely devastating.. Good luck with this.

What would concern me a lot about this project… how willing are Maclean to “play ball” with you.. selling you parts, supplying information, specifications… Also remember the car will be “ex-flood damaged” forever, for the whole of it life, you can not escape from that tag !! I think If I potentially was going to buy a multi million dollar car that has been repaired / restored after been flooded, I would either like the repairs done by the original manufacturer, an authorised service agent or the like..

its really hard to stomach such gamble especially when the market of hybrid supercars are just starting up its engine. in 2-3 years time there'd be so many new cars with even wilder look and spec than P1 were at much lower price. Only the trinity of hypercar, basically the poster cars of 2010s can stand the test of time can even worth the effort IMO the Revuelto and SF90 are just the beginning.

As much as I LOVE the idea of having a P1, due to my work in the insurance claims industry I can tell you that you would want to avoid a flooded vehicle just about 100% of the time!!!

@@Domtune89 The damage done by a flood is catastrophic. One of the big issues is that after it dries, the damage can sometimes be hidden or not so obvious. But it's still there... You could have non visible parts that rust or decay, water gets trapped in areas that can't be seen though still creating damage over time as it sits there. And that applies to engine or drivetrain parts just as much as the body, frame, or interior dressings.

Although... a lot of what you say is true, i have rebuilt a number of flood vehicles. The first came from a flood in WV. The car was a submarine! It took 2 months to disassemble it, and clean everything up. I had a wrecked donor car that had all the electrical parts to repair this car. I drove it for years... with no problems! The last vehicle I did, was the same way... completely under water. But, it was fresh water, and was easy to clean. It was a Chevy Silverado pickup truck. I used a exact donor vehicle for it to replace everything electrical. And... it still wouldn't start! So, I towed it to the dealer. All that was wrong was, the battery was dead for so long, the 3 computers were not talking to each other. After having it reprogrammed (about $1,500), it ran fine.

This might be the case with an older or cheaper vehicle., but.... this body is completely carbon fiber, most if not almost all metal in a supercar like this is aluminium or magnesium or titanium. The brakes are carbon ceramics. None of these materials rust or corrode very little. The body is glued. It will cost a lot of money to fix the obvious broken bits but most of the usual issues don't apply here. I bet that the car is still perfectly fine underneath.
