I bought a 1978 Lynx B Formula Vee racecar! I go into detail here about how I made the decision, what it costs, and what the plan is! What should I do with the Focus? Let me know!
Tyler you have found the "perfect" car/class to start your racing journey. I started racing FV back in the 70s. I learned more about driving and race craft in this series than if I had started in higher hp and cost. This community will help you enormously with how to progress and prioritize your time and money. Low hp teaches you how to drive smoothly. You can't make up for lost speed by pressing the gas peddle. Many of the best drivers of the 60s and 70s started in FV. You are a lucky boy to have found this car, community and class. Best of Luck.
You did good! Formula Vee is a GREAT racing class. I've been racing Vee's since 1990 and my son now also races one. You'll learn a lot about car control and momentum racing. Vee's are very forgiving, you can get them way out of shape and pull it back in and keep going! The competition is strong as many people have been driving them for years and really know how to make them move.
Congrats mate! RU-vid algorithms brought me here and I wish you good luck. I do not race IRL but I have a ton of hours on Formula Vee on iRacing. If they are like in the sim, they are so great to learn all basic technics like trail braking and weight transfer and inducing oversteer! On iRacing, downshifting to 2nd gear is very heavy on engine braking; we avoid it as much as possible.
Thank you! Honestly that's so good to know. I always heard most people stay in 3rd and 4th. I'll try it out on track this Sunday and will report back in my next video!!
