I tried my best on the Chinese translations for the reviews I showed at around 4:11, hope I wasn't too far off the mark. 😂 here are the links to the reviews: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YfykMMmynAA.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-piIJKijbuso.html

I am definitely thinking of doing the same. S21 is still a relevant buy in 2022 and I like the S21 camera's photo quality more than the S22 when I read GSMArena's full review of the S22.

Looking at other reviews, the Snapdragon also had better camera/video quality compared to the Exynos version. Also that blogspot with all the older phones reminded me of the older skins. I didn't really bat an eye at the kind of skins the android phones had, but looking back now, they were really quite messy

Based from your video, I'm using used s10e exynos. Compact and VoLTE and Vowifi ready too, compared to newer phones.

3.5mm jack, capacitive sensor, microsd card slot, and still got updated to android 12. 😂 main thing is just that it's not great for heavier users or gamers due to the smaller screen and battery, and the chipset seems a bit slower than the slightly updated Exynos chip on the Note10. Other than that, it's still a phone I quite like.

Problem with the 8 Gen 1 is that most of it is made by Samsung fabrication process Not TSMC. Have the S21 Plus (Exynos) since Singapore only sells Exynos S21s, Battery life of mine is meh for a 4800mah size battery I was expecting more out of it, I was able to get 5-5.3hrs (no gaming) usage from 8am to 10pm. Standby time is pretty meh. But other then that pretty good phone still.
@axhng
@axhng 2 года назад
yeah. SD8 Gen1 basically took the SD888 to the next level. if left unchecked, it's powerful, but drains a ton of battery and heats up easily. I find the difference between Exynos 2100 and SD888 not that big actually since both are using the same samsung fab anyway. unfortunately for us, the year that they decide to go Snapdragon for Singapore, it ends up being not great. 😂

I'm curious to know why would you get either the S21 or the S22 when you already have the Note 10? I have the latter and, when I tried the S21 last year and the S22 this year, I found that neither warranted replacing my Note 10 with (I don't need 5G yet and I don't care for the higher refresh rate). In fact, the build quality of the Note 10 was superior and the battery life better than either (and I do use the s-pen a lot).
@axhng
@axhng 2 года назад
For me it's a few minor things only. Like the flat display, slightly shorter width, faster fingerprint sensor, and in my case the battery life is slightly better since the s21 is a much newer phone. high refresh rate is kinda nice to have too, though that's probably the battery life difference isn't as big. Another thing is software support for the S21 for the next few years at least. but in the end, note10 is still a nice phone to use though, but i don't really use the s-pen much these days. 😂

@@axhng Those are good points; like everything else, it's a matter of preference/priorities. Enjoy your S21; I too would pick it over the S22 (despite my preference towards smaller phones) since the battery life of the latter seems to be particularly bad from the tests I've seen.

I def agree with you. The SD8G1 sucks and is worth missing this year for certain demographics (gamers and power-users). I had the S22U but have returned to my S20U which performs smoother and more reliably with better battery life. Even Samsung has realised what a dumpster their S22 series is and are now selling in some markets refurb S21U at $1000 as S22U sales slow to a trickle (after pre-orders). In S Korea the S22 line recieved $400 off after a few weeks, yet sales barely picked up, so Samsung is now making the S20FE again in the hope that consumers are happier with the SD865 (TSMC). Despite the S22 being hyped by the usual Samsung YT channels, it is rather lacklustre in performance and although that is not important to everyone, it makes buying an older version much more compelling, and as you say the S21 is much better than the S22 which has serious issues.

I feel like even for gamers and power users, unless the phone has really good cooling like the redmagic 7, they probably won't see a dramatic improvement too in terms of performance. regular phones will probably start throttling once the phone heats up, and it heats up fairly quickly. Plus the chip seems to be more power hungry when under loads. like for the oppo find x5 pro, even with a 500mAh larger battery, LTPO 2.0 panel, i don't feel like there's an improvement in battery life. For Redmagic 7 Pro with a similar battery size as the Redmagic 6, battery life is noticeably worse (since i think redmagic doesn't throttle the processor much if at all). so power users probably won't be super happy in terms of battery life too. for not so heavy users, it seems okay in terms of power draw though, but then in this case, might as well stick with SD888/870/865 phones. 😂 oh well. this is why i'm a lot more interested in phones with dimensity 8100 now. it seems to strike a great balance between power and efficiency. really hoping to see phones with that chipset outside of the Chinese market soon!

@@axhng Yes, we are all waiting for Dimensity, and even the first release seems better despite it probably needing optimisation and updates! Def looking like MediaTek now number one for Android as the best choice, after already becoming the top seller.

@@andyH_England yeah. and it's nice to see some competition for qualcomm now that Exynos isn't doing well, and Huawei can't do much with their Kirin chips due to sanction. Hopefully this will drive them to do better. same goes for samsung's chip manufacturing too, since TSMC seems to be quite ahead now. 😂

How does it compare to the Xperia 5iii reviewed previously? Is this from US?
@axhng
@axhng 2 года назад
it's a US set. it's probably down to personal preference, but the S21 is easier to recommend overall, mostly due to camera experience, software experience, and price. The camera processing is heavier, but does produce more pleasing looking images straight out of the camera. much much better front camera too. the good auto mode makes it a lot easier to use in day to day. Also i personally find samsung's pro video mode easier to work with than Sony's cinema pro or video pro app. software experience is lighter on the sony, but samsung's has more useful features and customisation options, while still maintaining a smooth interface. not to mention samsung has promised much better software support, and they are way faster compared to sony when it comes to updates. for me it's an easy win for samsung here. Price... pretty self-explanatory. Sony phones are expensive. 😂 The Xperia 5 iii still has some unique things going for it too like a good quality 3.5mm jack and 21:9 aspect ratio. Battery life is slightly better too. but it's definitely not the best option for regular consumers. and it's hard to say it's good value for money too.
@chookwangzhee1889
@chookwangzhee1889 2 года назад
As mentioned in my comments for the 5iii review, I'm one of the "weirdos" who picked the 5iii. 3.5mm is something I can live without in my daily life, but the microsd card is a red line for me. I hope that Samsung will bring back microsd for their s lineup, at least for the Fe range. So far the 5iii has been a pleasure to use, except for the somewhat frequent instances of excessive heat and thermal throttling , even when games are not being played. Are you still keeping the 5iii? This might be a great opportunity to cross compare the two for a next video

I also torn between S21 vs S22 before for my next smartphone since my S20 have problem with flickering screen since last year and the cost for repair quite expensive for me so I would rather get a new phone instead of repair my S20 screen, but in my country (Malaysia) we only get exynos ver for S21 series and the price also not so much different if compared with S22, only around $50 & for the import set snapdragon variant S21 is much cheaper but I don't really trust online seller because nowadays it hard to see different between new set or refurbished set just from picture they advertise, they claim they sell new set but from review & picture/video from buyer I can see some of them probably got refurbished set because the phone not even come with screen protector & plastic wrapped around phone like new phone out of box. So I decided to trade in my S20 for S22, so far after 5 days I got my phone I can say that battery life are pretty good for my usage, probably just same as my previous S20 if not better, battery standby also good only drained 3% in 7 hours when I go to bed.

nice! i'm in SG so only get the exynos version too. after trying the SD888 version, I would have been fine with the Exynos version too. I find the difference barely noticeable in regular use. and for heavy use, the SD888 still runs quite warm and draw a lot of power anyway, so still not a fantastic experience for heavier users. Getting from online sellers especially shops are a little tricky like you mentioned. have seen some cases of refurbished sets being sold as used original set. If not for me being curious about how SD888 set performs, and this being a used set (so i can check on the spot before making the purchase), i probably would have just gone for Exynos version. From my experience with SD8 Gen 1 so far, it's probably similar to SD888 in terms of battery use for regular day to day stuff, just that when under heavier loads it seems to draw more power. While i don't game that much, I still do so every now and then, so battery life was a bit of a concern. but anyway, if you're looking for a new phone, and a brand new S22's price is so close to the the S21, I would probably just go S22 as well. 😂

@@axhng yeah, the reason why I choose S22 over S21 because for official set the price not much different & with S22 preorder I can get more value since they give freegift like Galaxy Watch 4 & Samsung 45W charger and I also got RM200 eVoucher with this purchased, so if combined with freegift S22 actually have better price compared to S21, at least in my country
