I bought one of the most iconic chairs for £10... then restored it as it was disgusting. This is easily worth £200+ so I was super happy with it fot £10! #HermanMiller #Restoration #TheRetroFuture
And I thought my £2.50 copy of Metroid fusion was a bargin yesterday- nice one! Can we expect more furniture videos like this, make a new channel called The Retro Furniture😅
Seriously amazing find Elliot. I recently replaced my Aeron with an Embody after the Aeron finally reached EOL after nearly 15 years of use. Anyone who scoffs at the cost of these please realize these are tough hardworking and comfortable chairs. I would much rather pay $500 for a char that will last 10+ years than $100 for a chair that might last a year tops. I'm sure this Says has many many many more years of life left in it.
Although I can't afford a 500 to 800 quid chair I have gotten 50 quid and less chairs that are comfy and lasted me most of my life. It looks a mess but it works fine. 😁
It's very Famicom-themed! An awesome find. I could never take something like this apart without having a lot of trouble putting it back together again.
What an incredible find! Been thinking about getting a Herman Miller for a while, can't imagine I'll ever find one for a tenner though... I guess I'll definitely keep my eye out at charity shops from now on
That was a great bargain, but as jersey hospice is such a great local charity, why don't you make a donation to them, for the amount that you sell your old chair for 😉 it would probably fetch a bit, since you have sat in it 🤣
There's an optional lumbar support you may want to look into getting, seems to make a big difference to me if I'm spending long work days/nights in the chair. Killer find; I thought I got a really good deal on mine until I saw this!
That is an amazing find! I’ve had a Herman Miller chair for about 15 years now, and have sat in it 8+ hours a day every day for all that time and I don’t think I can ever go to a different type of chair.
Nice find ;) My old chair was swedish made from brand called Ullman and the Q-Lite series. They cost around 500-600 quid second hand. I did find the older model for 20 quid. Did use for around 10 years. It was to expensive to replace the leather. That chair is no more. I have Markus chair instead from IKEA in leather. Funny thing is my first name is Markus haha xD
@@TheRetroFuture2 it's really comfortable for long periods of work and got just the right amount of back support. I'm 5f11 so it hopefully is alright for you too being6f+
Thanks to you I ended up getting one of these cheap and did a similar refurb. The 3rd party armrests off Aliexpress have been great. I ended up spending £100 for mine but still really good value to me
Thats a bargain! I just picked one up for £50. Mine is in good condition, no damage to the arm rests, very clean cushion and its a 2013 model. It has the Herman Miller manufacturing sticker still on it, so I should be able to get a complete refurb as they give a 12 year warranty on them if you have this sticker.
I hope it works well for you too. My company kitted out our new office with these back in 2014, and the chair supplier even sent out posture experts to make sure we all knew how to properly adjust them, but I simply couldn't adjust it in such a way that didn't give me back ache and I ended up bringing in my own chair. Most people seem to get on fine with them, though, so maybe I just don't have a Herman Miller compatible back 🤷♂️
My dad worked for a moving company and one time a business they were moving was throwing out their Herman Miller chairs! They let him take as many as he wanted, so I got one for free! Excellent find!
Amazing find! Might need to rent a wet vac to really clean the seat cushion deeper. But besides that stellar job bringing it back from the dirt and grime grave.
What a steal! Love the way you made this video, makes me wanna go out and find a chair like this only to clean it with one of those chair cleaners you used. Cheers!
Nice come up and restoration. Locally i found a herman miller aeron with a broken base. Need to research on how to repair or replace it before i make an offer.
I just bought one with all the upgrades (adjustable 4d arms, butterfly lumbar support, etc, for 200 euro. What was the name of the seat cleaner you used, and also, was RE attaching the the runner back hard? (sorry if you said it in the video)
Hey, I just got a sayl too for cheap, and I’m looking forward to clean it as much as you, what products did you use for the different parts ? Tysm for the help u can give me !!
I see you bought the replacement pads on Amazon. I had a similar situation to you, though my chair was not quite as cheap, and Herman Miller was awesome when asking for replacement parts directly from them.
Hey Elliot, what is the name of the product you used to clean the seat? I have a pretty dirty chair here I need to clean aswell but I have no idea what to buy to do it, and from what I've seen, the one you used worked pretty well!
Nice find, great chair. But often when I know the value of a item in a charity shop I tend to give a little more than the asking price if it's already priced low so the charity shop gets more for it and I do my bit for charity win win. :) (in some charity shops they won't let you pay more though) so I end up buying more stuff Lols.
Great video and what a find! Please consider making a small donation to the charity shop since they inadvertently missed out on a big sale and even with a donation you´d be sitting on a great chair for a great price. Cheers!
What a steal. I bought the cheapest office chair from a Chinese website and it was about 25 quid new because unfortunately there's no real second hand shops or charity stores where I live so no luck with bargains. Enjoy!
I can't say I like the design personally but great work on a great find. Just makes me wonder what office budget spans to such costs for chairs. And why people were happy to treat them like crap!
I bought an Sedus open mind for 25€ in good but used condition. Its an 700€ chair and I'm so happy with it because I have some problems with my back. An ergonomic chair is so Importent.
I found a Knoll Saarinen desk chair at a thrift shop for $15 once, they usually go for around $2000 new. Mine was from 1999, and I abused it over 6 years plus the rest of the abuse it got from previous ownership. It finally broke back in July (main spring broke) and I had to move to my replacement desk chair I picked up off Amazon for $150 knowing full well it was about to happen.
