I recently bought a house in Asheville, and last week, hurricane Helene made landfall, bringing unprecedented devastation to the WNC area. This video is a documentation of my experience as a new home owner living through the storm and dealing with the damage it wrought.
As communities begin the long road to recovery, residents are coming together to rebuild, highlighting their resilience in the face of this natural disaster. Thank you in advance to anyone donating to the fundraiser. 100% of all proceeds are going to disaster relief here in Asheville as the area begins the long process of rebuilding.

Thank you all for being a beacon of light and showing everyone a fine example of the very best in humanity. it's a spiritual battle of light against darkness and even the light of a matchstick will dispel the darkness. All of you, matchsticks shining together are giving off the light of a beacon. Stay strong and share together, while healing hearts and lives. Much Love to you all.

Thanks Alex, your story needs to be told. It gives perspective to just how devastating Helene was and how the community is actually keeping spirits high pulling together to make things work. The utility guys are incredible in power up so quickly for you. I do know that there is still so much remote and stranded pockets of people still without power, fresh water. You have a long term project ahead of you and the opportunity for the rebuilding of NC is going to be a task that young men like yourself are going to accomplish.. I've watched you since your Shela and BKXC Colorado days... Girlfriend and a house... well done. I know she's a special person taking on the responsibility to go an ferry supplied... Glad to see you are ok and were able to come together with your neighbors to make a difference and help others. Always wonderful to see how we can come together in an emergency and make a difference. My grandfather lives not far from Ashville in SC and while he got away without any damage it was still a mess. My twin brother went to help him and they said the biggest issue at first was as you said living in a bubble. He didn't know what was going on around him until he either went and saw for himself or talked to people that had. It made such a difference that my grandfather who is 82, has decided to sell and move into town where it is easier.

Went through similar in flood 2021 germany. Lost everything and three friends but my health and job. I still consider myself lucky and fortunate compared to others that took a huge hit to their body. Which makes grieving about what happened a very wired mixture of emotions. All I can say is that I appreciate every day despite being technically homeless and am very grateful for so many friends and family members that gave me a place to stay and did pry deeper to give emotions the very room they need to dissipate.

Having said that, today article in our newspaper mentioned there been a 50% uptake in impounded dogs since the pandemic ended. So many people got dogs, and both weren't suited and got them ffed up or now don't 'have time' to take care of them. It's not even such an uptake in incidents ( biting / fighting / complaints ) it's more owners saying 'just take him/her'. Made me so mad reading that, I hope it's better over there!

@@wuzhis2184 Sadly lots of dogs here got imported from Eastern Europe or South Europe ( Spain / Portugal ), and not even dogs from the shelters here.
