I think everyone appreciates a good little Fez! The Zetec S I had taught me how to drive quickly - carrying speed was a joy with such a sharp accessibile chassis! Love the vids man, keep it up 👍🏼
I went from a mountune mr230 (big brake kit, everything mountune do) to a m140i stage 2. M140i was a lot quicker after 40mph but the fiesta was so fun!!! If you want to go fast in a corner it’s the fiesta if you wanna go sideways obviously the m140i.
Enjoyed the video. I’ve owned my ST3 from new since 2014. Pretty much gone through the Mountune catalogue taking it up to MR230. From experience, if you are happy with the power, then check out an aftermarket engine mount, short shifter and possibly some aftermarket springs. All relatively cheap mods, but certainly enhance the driving experience. Other possible mods would be to add cruise control which is fairly simple. The rear head light cluster were updated in circa 2015 to part LED units. Pick up a second hand set from the bay of flea for about 60 sheets. Plug and play jobbies that freshen up the rear end Great cars out the factory though. As mentioned, they have 197bhp due to the overboost feature. Marketed as 180bhp though
Had mine for 4 years now. Still puts a smile on my face just going for a drive. I've had no major issues on mine at 90k miles, just wear and tear items plus a leaky water pump in the past. Car is totally standard. Keep on top of worn suspension + decent tyres and they will continue to feel sweet
Such a fun car mate and much cheaper to run than the Beemer😂 You could make it a quick car for not a lot of money if you buy some decent 2nd hand parts. Had a s280 turbo mapped by Trs and it was class! 40mpg when you wanted as well
Comments in here are hilarious I bet most of you haven't even got a driving license,he's had as 140i had fun in it now it's time for something more affordable, fiesta's are great little cars.
I have had one of these which is the same age as yours from new. They all have 200 hp. Its normally 180 bhp but it has an over boost function on full throttle for about 10 secs that gives an extra 20 bhp. So the Mountune kit adds 15 bhp. Torque steer in 3rd & 4th! Time for new decent tyres. They do about 40 mpg. Decent things.
First time coming across you videos but definitely deserve more subs, professional commentary, footage, editing. here before you hit 100k by the end of the year 👍🏼
Great choice! Like some have suggested, if you think the car was treated well by previous owners, which with the 40k miles sounds like it has, worth looking at going stage 2, these engines are solid and can cope with 330hp no problem, a new clutch, better brakes and you will not look back.
I went from a Focus RS MK3 to a Fiesta St - white as well, great car, a lot of fun to be had for little money - ironically l went to a GR4 Yaris (brilliant) BUT lm now back in a M140 - there aren’t many cars l would have twice (so much choice) but obviously the M140 is one because l have 😃 and definitely the Fiesta ST - but probably the new 1.5 (orange 👍). Another good review - l really enjoyed it 👍. Ps if any of you young men think you may grow out of performance cars - think again- lm nearly 60 and getting worse 😂😂😂😂
As far as community goes its a total mess but these are absolutely bonkers cars I think you'll absolutely love it but for love of god please dont put a fucking pop n bang map on
I had a st then 140i. The st was way more fun! The 140 didn’t have much to offer other than straight line performance and the auto made things boring. Sold the 140 for an M2 and now looking for a st for weekend fun toy.
Had an M140. brilliant engine in a shit chassis, unless you throw a lot of money at them, and then still won’t be anywhere near the handling of an m2. Fiesta ST. Brilliant out of the box great on fuel. You made the right choice for you budget mate. !
Mate, I'm sure you are opening yourself up for a load of abuse but totally agree. Just sold my m140i with stage 1,.Remus and gearbox tune. Great drivetrain but a rubbish drive with lifeless steering. Way too fast for any case on UK roads except motorway on ramps. Bought an NC mx5 and now have fallen back in love with driving again.
The M140i isn't going to be as good as an M2 is it, because it's a third of the price. It has a narrower track and you can't fit as large tyre, so what do you expect ? If it was as good as an M2, BMW wouldn't sell many M2's would they ? The chassis isn't 'shit' at all, it's very good, just not amazing, and a few mods can make it amazing. But that just defeats the whole point, because then for daily driving it's too crashy and stiff, which is how 95% of daily driving goes, and as a daily the M140i in comfort mode (if you have the adaptive suspension) is very nice indeed. I have never owned a car which is as good at doing everything so well, I absolutely love mine.
I’d love to hear your opinion on what actually ruins these cars 🤣 as you said don’t ruin it and then say slap a bigger turbo on it. These cars are great from the factory, doing stuff like that is what ruins them.
Great content as always! I sold my M135 earlier this month to release some money for a house. I considered these STs as well for a replacement but ended up settling for a Audi A5 2L TFSI. Surprised at the similar 0-60 times of the A5 and what you've listed in the video! Definitely missing the pull you get from the BM though.
Like the way you reviewed this, and seemed a fair review imo. I'd love to see you a manual Golf GTD. If you want cheap motoring this could be the car for you. One minute giving you 60mpg on the motorway, but even when blasting it on a country lane, you still get 30's. Would also be further interesting to see how a dsg then compares on top. 🙂
im buying a 2016 molten orange one with only 30k miles on it and the paintwork and wheels are immaculate, i wont mention how much im paying for it but hey, its well worth it to me :)
Not a bad decision, no one here can speak unless you buy a fiesta ST and drive it hard or in the canyons , then you will know why it’s an amazing car , this is coming from a bmw m3 owner
I just went from a gt86 to a Corsa vxr nurburgring edition for money reasons and practical reasons but IV gained power ,the vxr is way qwicker and a better ride than the 86 only thing is it doesn't stand out as much . I did look at the st but you see loads of them around
Fair play mate, I went from a M240i to a manual facelift I30N recently and difference in handling is insane! proper fun round corners and fuel economy is much better!
@@henzopereira5308 Yeah, done a 250 mile round trip when I picked it up and put the suspension into comfort and it was great, the seats are pretty good but don't have much bolster support though
Had an St1 till about a month ago, put the mountune exhaust on it and the mp215 kit and it was pretty mega for a little hot hatch. Upgraded to a seat cupra Leon 300 though which is a massive upgrade
Wicked car and nice example. After 12 mths with an M140 the honeymoon period for me is well and trully over and the ride/handling is getting on my tits. I am going to spend a bit of money on mods but v interested to see how you get on with the fezza, looks great fun to drive
@lookship Ive got a st 200, Get some decent tyres on yours. Ive got pilot sport 4s on mine and sorts the car out from bogging down in the dry when i give it some beans 👍
Seen the link In the fiesta group I should have gone for a white one instead of an all black but then again it’s still as fun to drive with the same map as you and same speck loved the edits don’t doubt your self on not uploads more Videos I’d like to see what you full plans of modifications will be 😃
Nice on the corners but in no way a upgrade from the 140i. Definitely need some added security, wheel lock is the first purchase before the metal dust caps and go fast stripes 😂
I get it, money can be tight. Mad decision tho, I've seen M140s going round the nordschleife at crazy speed. Waiting for the popcorn map and universal credit mods.
bought a mountune 2015 ST, 1 month ago for money reasons, 34k on the clock... worried when I purchased it, will not be letting the little beast go anytime soon, absolutely love it!
I’ve got one as a daily for my OG m2 and credit to the fiesta I never feel disappointed when I take the ST out. Are you sure yours is an ST-2 though as it’s got the electronic temp controls from an ST-3? It may have come standard on the earlier cars but the two st-2’s I’ve had (15 and 65 reg) both had the old temp controls
Was told it was an ST-2 with the Sat Nav and electronic climate control optional extra. Might aswell be an ST-3. The lad who sold it to me shifts these on the regular so I presume that's the case.
I paid a 11k if I remember right. Can probably pick up a newer model with a few more miles than mine for the same amount, but the mountune kit swayed it for me since I didn't want to go down the route of modifying it myself. Or so I keep saying, it's bound to happen.
when it comes to affordable driving fun, the st mk7 was unrivaled at the time. and even today there are still plenty of people who appreciate just that. Jeremy Clarkson said: “I spend most of my life whizzing hither and thither in exotica made from platinum and rhodium and fitted with engines that roar and bellow and spit fire. And all I want on the way home is a Ford Fiesta ST.” It's my everyday vehicle alongside my one-off prototype and I've driven much more powerful and faster cars, but in the end I'm just like Jeremy. Good choice, mate! 🙂👍
Just out of curiosity did you get the subframe inserts, underbody chassis brace and a decent tyre/suspension set up before writing the M140i off in the handling department?
I didn't. You're right there are plenty of things you can do to improve them, but straight out the box the ST is an improvement over the 140 on the roads I like to go limiter bashing on 😃
@@lookship I totally agree mate, they're insane value for money. I had a DSG Cupra 300 and still miss how it handles! I was just intrigued to see if you'd upgraded the components above and still didn't feel the 140i was up to scratch.
Currently on the hunt for my next car. 22 and graduating in summer. Owned a 1.4 punto since passing my test and in desperate neeed of more power. Trying to decide what to buy is so difficult. Want to go down the M135i route but not sure if its best straight away. Any ideas? Maybe something like this could be worth it 🤔
I wanted more power ever since I passed my test. Ended up with more power than I could use in a chassis that wasn't designed to take it. The Mlites are fantastic cars, but the figures don't do them justice when it comes to using it around the corners. If you really really want one get it out of your system now. I never thought I'd come back to something like this, but for spirited driving over a B road it's miles more fun with 200-300bhp and a manual box.
@@lookship Ive wanted one for years, always thought they looked proper cool. So might be a case of getting it now then moving on later like you suggested. I don't think im quite ready for an automatic just yet though 🤣, which is proving to be quite difficult to get a good spec manual for 15-17k which is kinda also throwing me off too. The cornering isnt something I hadn't really thought about too much also. As much as I want to be able to fly down a dual carridgeway, Ild like to be able to corner a B road without ending up in a hedge and wiping my 5y no claims🤣.
The Mk7 is a gorgeous car and a weapon. Interested to know why you didn't choose the Mk8 over a Mk7 though, they are a much better car and a far better daily in my opinion (I'm biased obviously due to having a Mk8 ST-3)
Yep, money. I had a budget of about 17-18k and I was looking at 275 Trophys, but couldn't find one with the options I wanted on for the price (they do come up they're just rare af). When I looked at other things with that budget the MK8 was an option as was the JCW hatch, but I just thought why not pocket a few quid and buy some mods for the van with the change - which is what I'll be doing 🙂
I'm glad you are happy with the new car(s), I love the pick up ! I looked at a brand new Fiesta ST myself before I bought my M140i. To be fair, you were not going to make a video saying 'I bought a new car and I hate it' so I'll take it with a pinch of salt, emperor's new clothes and all that. The Fezza is good handling little hatch but it's not really a direct comparison to the M140i is it. The M140i with adaptive is great, yes the rear end is a bit wobbly, and yes it's a bit floaty at speed, but you are going to be approaching corners a lot faster, and of course RWD handling is completely different to FWD so you take corners in a different way. The M140i gets a lot of (unfair) criticism in the handling department, but mainly because people compare it to cars like the Golf R, RS3, A45S, etc, and it is never going to be as fast ultimately round corners as an AWD car, and for the money I think it holds up brilliantly. It's bigger than the Fezza, more rear legroom, more boot space, better interior by miles, and comfier in comfort mode as a daily driver, with the added bonus of being much faster and worth much more money to resell. The ST is a good little car, but it's crashy to drive as a daily, the interior is cheap & nasty, and I just didn't find it as much fun, mainly because the M140i is a real handful when tuned, and that to me makes it exciting. It keeps you on your toes, you have to actually drive the thing. I don't dislike the ST, but lets be honest, it's not even half the car that the M140i is, and they can't really be compared as they are aimed at totally different market buyers. For all the Fezza fangirls going on about handling, why didn't you buy an Elise, or Caterham ?
I had a fiesta st with the mountune mr230 kit on it. it was amazing but it had a battery drain so I had to keep jumpstarting it once every couple if days and no garage could find the fault, so I had to get rid off it, so gutted
I had a Z4 coupe 3.0si before I went to my fez. I loved that car and miss it. But it was expensive to run and maintain and it would be even worse today. I've had the fez 5 years now and it does make me smile when out on the road. It's not fast by any means and lots of cars can leave me in their wake. But I know I can enjoy all the power it has and use more of it and most my gears compared to more powerful cars than push 300 to 400 bhp where you are doing 60 in second gear in not time. Will look forward to hearing your thoughts on the fez.
@@lookship yeah I often say to myself why pay a fortune for a car as you can't use the power half of them have got in the UK roads, just get something that makes you smile. So what did I do, went and got an A35 AMG! Next time I'll listen to myself!
My god you have made the worst decision here …. 140 to a fiesta st ? Are u mad ….. and then slate the screen in the 140 ? My god mate you have really mad a huge mistake here …. And you slate it so much when previously bigging it up … hypercritical or what ….
I think you've totally got the wrong end of the stick here mate. The pro nav looks amazing, but the functionality compared to other systems is appalling. However, it might just have been mine, or so it seems after taking to a few other people. Apparently you only need a postcode to select a route - even though for some reason I needed to input the postcode, street AND town every single time for it to find me a route. So I ended up just using Google maps, which is what I would have done if I was using car play anyway, but I have an Android so it wasn't an option. Kind of explained the other reasons for switching too... Obviously I'd prefer to keep the M140i, I loved that car, but financially I had to get rid to buy my lil van and it was an itch that needed scratching.
@@lookship Nah you haven't Luke 😄 tbf, what you said about the 140 in the video is true. I've done all the handling mods and mine is night and day difference now! B12 kit, H&R anti roll bars, SuperSprint droplinks, Powerflex pushes all round, Underbody Brace, Engine Brace, MPerf LSD, M4 control arms and tension struts with full alignment. But it has cost more than a pretty penny to do all that! So totally get the change, cost savings too bro 👌
Not a big fan of ford altogether. But hey if everyone was the same be bit boring. Just think the B58 is class engine platform and they can go far. Bit of let down fiesta ST 😦.
They need to put that engine in an M chassis. The tuning potential is mental. But they won't do it because they know it'll out perform certain M cars out there atm...
