Looks like a good choice Jess !!! Last year we bought our first Harley, a 2019 Heritage Softail 114, after 46 years of "other brands". Among old bikes we currently have a '69 Ossa Pioneer, '70 BSA 441 Victor, '74 TY250 Yamaha and a '76 XT500 Yamaha. In 2015 we bought a 650 Suzuki V-Strom which until the Harley came along was going to be our last bike. As much as we love the Harley, we ain't sellin' the V-Strom. Hittin' the back roads is fun and the dirt road experience will make YOU a better rider!! At 65 yrs old I enjoy ALL types of riding. Stay safe and have fun, Jim & Libby

What people fail to realize. Is there a lot bikes that ride better than Harleys. I own a Harley for one reason they're easy to fix and parts are everywhere. So if I get stuck anywhere in the United States I can get the part very quickly and replaced equally as quick. And I also do happen to love the sound.
@vferdman
@vferdman 3 года назад
I agree. Most bikes ride better than a Harley, but it's hard to get Harley's sound, feel, character and ease of maintenance. Been riding a Sportster for 16 years and loving it, but came to it from a Honda and that '83 Honda rode at least as good if not better than my '04 Sporty. I'll never get rid of the Sporty, though. Maybe add to it.
@gfunk63901
@gfunk63901 3 года назад
i totally agree. I bought a royal enfield 2 years ago and the dealer was like 2 hours away and it is not a good bike for speeds above 60. then the dealer stopped selling and servicing enfields. A lot of the other brands have same problem. With a toyota, you have so many options. Harley seems to have a huge dealer network and if you get screwed by one service shop, you can go to another one or a private mechanic who used to work for Harley. I just bought a triumph knowing there is a shop near me
@nbrider7235
@nbrider7235 3 года назад
That was one of the determining factors when I bought my 2003 Softail Nighttrain. A friend had a copy of the HOG touring handbook that includes maps with all the HD dealerships marked on them, I realized that in southern Canada and the Continental United States you were never farther than roughly 100 miles from a HD dealer. I was doing a lot of two up touring with my wife and that extra peace of mind was definitely a pro. I put 75,000 miles on that bike and other than a flat tire in the Finger Lakes region of NY and needing to bleed the brakes in Glenwood Springs, CO after crossing the Rockies I never needed that extra "insurance policy".

Awesome Andre remember how long it took Harley to fix her bike because the parts were not available?
@awesomeandre1757
@awesomeandre1757 3 года назад
@@lucyferina yes I do that's also why I bought a Sportster. It's the least problematic and most reliable out of all models of Harley. Also I use JP cycles, Amazon, and others to keep me out of the HD dealership. However my HDbloomington takes really good care of me and can beat other third part sites prices.

I have the exact same model. Bought it this year and it's the best bike I've ever owned. After the first service it runs even smoother. I've taken a 1200 mile trip on it around lake Michigan and this machine and I became very comfortable with each other. Two out of the three days, both day and night it rained and I have complete trust in the way she handles. Didn't add the heated grips but added everything else you mentioned. Anyone looking at this bike, I highly encourage you to take a test drive, it's really an incredible machine.

So many motorcycles. Not enough time - but a great start! Triumphs Rock. This particular ride sums up what I like best about motorcycling - get to an intersection and decide which way to go based on, well, nothing. Or maybe something random. Just exploring. Don't sweat any haters that throw shade based on their assumption that you might be a Harley purist. Two wheels are two wheels. Ride the way you like, and ride what makes you happy!

I don't think you will be disappointed with the choice! And welcome to the world of handling and stopping - not sportsbike sharp, but different to the Dyna for sure! Not that I'm biased with it being a Brit bike.... More looks is because it's different - Harleys do all blend together if it's all you see unless there is something incredible special about them. I've currently got '98 Honda CBR1100XX (Blackbird), 2020 Buell Custom (built by me), '99 Suzuki Bandit 1200, '94 Kawasaki KLE500 and a '98 Yamaha R1 in the garage. You can't beat a bit of variety!

Like others, wasn't expecting that bike. One thing to get use to with a tall seat height is spotting an avoid putting your foot down in low spots on the ground. Or if you need to put your foot down in a low spot prepare by shifting your butt off the side of the seat. I suspect that by the time you read this you will have already figured this out. Hard saddle bags help when picking your bike up after it needs to take a dirt nap. But, it is true they don't go really go well with the styling of the 1200XC. My late wife road motorcycle with wind protection for about six years before riding her first nake standard style motorcycle. (Your Scrambler is somewhat standard style.) One of the things that I will always remember is hearing her cursing over our Bluetooth intercom as she merge onto the interstate on a Ducati Scrambler. She had the same feeling that you experienced. She felt like she was going to get blown off the motorcycle. I think that this is a pretty common experience when taking a nake standard style motorcycle to speed the first time. This includes my experience 35 plus years ago. (She rode an Indian Scout before. But you sit more in a Scout. Kind of behind the fuel tank. On our little 250 dual sports we would tuck in to make it to 70 mph without overworking the engines. Most of the other motorcycles she rode had fairings and windshields.)

I can’t stop smiling. Great video, I watch as often as I can. A little background, I’m 66 y.o. I had a horrible MC accident in 79 and almost lost my r.leg and it took me a long time to get back on a bike. I rode enduros and that’s what I had my accident on. Fast forward 2008, I bought a Triumph America brand new, my best friend growing up take a trip almost every summer with the expectation of covering the lower 48...we have 27 in the bag. My bike has 81,000 miles and other than normal maintenance, no issues. On your way out west, if you go through St. Lous let me know, I’d love to meet you and talk bikes. Enjoy your Triumph, hope you have as good a one as I do.

You’d have more room, taller suspension and standard riding position is better for taller riders. I’m 6’4 on a t100. But harleys feel super cramped.

As soon as I saw the thumbnail, I thought "This is Amanda Zito effect" . Just knew it had to be more a sport bike. Lighter, responsive and yet still fully tour worthy. Good choice Jess! P.S., this from a one time Gold Wing owner who now rides his second Yamaha Super Tenere. Now, plan on making it to the next Rocky Mountain Roll and you'll be deemed fully a Cross/bike rider/owner.

Very nice choice! The moment I saw the Ohlins, I thought she might ride the Harley a couple more times, and then it`s going to just sit and gather dust. Compared to my 99 BMW R1100S, my FXDC is heavy, slow, clumsy, crude, rough, and in general unrefined. Did I mention, it`s slow! These same comments also apply to my 09 XR1200 Sportster, which the Beemer will run circles around. Also, no more crap bearings for you. I know you will really enjoy this bike.

Funny enough, there used to be a Danish manufacturer named Nimbus. They made a longitudinally mounted inline 4 cylinder engined shaft driven bike that was often paired with a sidecar. They're quite stylish as well.

Wheels, I am glad to see you bought a Triumph - one of my early "dream machines". Truth is there are so many quality choices of which I have had my share over the years. The rumble of a Harley makes me feel 10 years younger. I still get a thrill from my Hayabusa which I sold nearly ten years ago. I am currently on a Goldwing Trike which is perfect for an old(er) man with six fractured vertebraes. - Long story bike+man+gravel+washout+tree = ambulance+hospital and now Goldwing. Ride what you like or ride what you can, no matter just ride. I find you to be a delight and you videos uplifting - Keep up the good work

lucianoromero777...hmmm, more reliable than a Harley huh? I bought a 12 Street Glide new and when I sold it she had 78k miles on it with ZERO mechanical issues. Bought a 16 Road Glide Special in Sept 2016 and when I traded it she had 57k on it...ZERO mechanical issues. Bought an 18 Road Glide Special in April 18 and currently she just rolled over to 50k miles...ZERO mechanical issues. So genius tell me again about the Harley reliability?? Why don't you just STFU if you don't know what you're talking about.

Congrats on the Triumph! Such a sweet bike. I’ve been riding dirt bikes off road, specifically single track, for almost a decade. One thing to remember when off roading on 2 wheels, it’s not a question of if you fall and drop the bike it’s when. You can’t be scared of it. I would highly suggest getting a small pit bike or dirt bike to practice on in the yard before you take that $14k scrambler on anything more than a dirt or gravel road. You’ll feel a lot more confident when the time comes. Looking forward to more content on this one.

Hi jess enjoy your channel, I brought my 1200 xc a year ago on 27 November she's done 10023 miles now and we've had a blast for all of those. I've done a few mods , the best thing I've changed is the tyres, standard metzlers good ,but Dunlop trail max Misson are outstanding, they look like they will run higher mileage, road grip is better wet or dry and they really do work so much better off road. Keep an eye on your headrace bearing had mine replaced at 5000 miles under warranty. Apart from that perfect. I hope you enjoy nimbus as much as I enjoy mine safe riding all the best from UK 🇬🇧
