Ben made the right decision to give back Remy. Rats are a lot and need the proper research and care, and him giving Remy back just shows how much he cares. We love you Ben ❤❤
not everyone is equipped to take care of a a pet. Thank you for doing the mature thing of taking Remy back and giving him another chance of a good home.
Yeah, even if his care wasn’t the best and there were a lot of flaws not to mention he impulse bought Remy, but he was still mature enough to realize he wasn’t equipped to taking care of Remy and decided to give him to another home which is MUCH better than what most “popular” RU-vidrs are willing to do to any animal they impulse purchased let alone a rat. Hope Remy is living his best life with hopefully other ratties ❤️ (if he ever did get neutered ofc)
Seeing Ben, a usually funny and lively type of person cry, is so heartbreaking. I cried immediately when Ben started crying because of Remy. You made the right choice giving back Remy, I know that one day you'll find something that you can take care of. Love you Ben and Remy.
All jokes aside I couldn’t imagine how much it would hurt to give up Remy, it was the right decision though and he’s happy hanging out with his rat friends.
I feel so bad for Ben rn, after he took Remy back I started crying and I still am and it just breaks my heart to see such a happy person break down like that. And I just wish I could give him a hug rn 😭
Bro he’s an actual id!0t People need to stop having petrol they clearly don’t know how to care for them because that rat is literally dead things to him now domesticated animals cannot survive in the wild and now due to his stupidity he’s dead. He’s always doing stupid things are videos but now he’s actually putting an animal’s life in danger without thinking twice this guy’s an idiot. I don’t know how we honestly didn’t think the rat could possibly get out from that because rats literally climb walls and squeeze through small holes it’s not unknown information he should’ve done his research
As a person who owns pet rats I think you made the right decision. Rats are a fun pet to take care of but they can be hard pets to take care of at the same time. Rats might not be for everyone but I know one day you will find the right pet💕🐀🐁
@@zypxier hamsters r shit pets, ive had 3 very cute to look at but so much work for an animal with no thought also they do bite randomly , not ideal for kids

@@skidrum i did. in fact, i had two. unfortunately one ended up dying, the other ATE the dead rat and then ended up getting so lonely they died themselves.
I own rats myself and was quite concerned when I saw the first part of the video for many reasons, one being the cage, the fact there was only one rat. But I'm glad that Ben realised Remy would be better being with other rats and someone who could take better care of Remy. :)
Came here to say the same. I wish RU-vidrs would do a bit more research and educate followers. Rats are emotional, social, intelligent animals. I heard he brought it back so good on him, but I’d love for him to tell followers to do proper research before purchasing a pet.
Remy was not just a rat, he was a small part of our lives that we will never forget,it was the right thing to do and I'm sure he is safe and thanking you everyday in his little pea brain for making the right decision. It's never easy giving up pets but we will never forget Remy 💙💙
@@coma4977 Sorry, I meant ratS, as they are social animals and NEED a friend, even if you can spend 24/7 with them (which. you can't... for obvious reasons) :)
At a rat owner I wasn’t entirely thrilled by this video and your techniques, but the love you had for little Remy was genuine, and I definitely think you’ll be an amazing rat owner after doing some research. Rats are amazing companions, and their little hearts can store an immense amount of love.
Yeh i agree, cause the bedding and the cage itself were pretty bad cause rats have really sensitive loungs butttt the love he had for Remi was just so amazing 🥹🥹🥹❤!!
i have a pet rat, they are like dogs but tiny...They are not easy to take care, they have allergies to substrates, tendency to tumors and the most common respiratory infection...You need to have time for them, ben you take the best decision returning them but i think , maybe one day you can have one again they are literally the cutest thing in the world
A few notes (if ben gets more): 1. Get more than one 2. Don’t use saw dust because they are prone to respiratory problems 3. Please cover the stairs and floors as they’re feet could get trapped or it could hurt them (could get bumblefoot) 4. Please don’t take them outside again 😅 If you read my comment, thank you, I am sad that you are sad ☹️ Edit: yes, it is penis (I think) Edit 2: thanks so much for 100 likes Edit 3: thanks so much for 200 likes Edit 4: MUMMY IM FAMOUS
You made a very responsible decision. I'm sure giving back a pet that you're attached to is hard but you clearly cared a lot about his safety which shows you have very good intentions. We love you Ben. ❤
Ben just saying if u wanna get a little guy to take care of that’ll make you feel proud like ur rat son I suggest getting a hampter they’re fat cuddly creatures that in some cases like to be left alone but i think your do great with ‘em👽💃🏻
Tip for those who are thinking of owning rats or already own some: You should have more than one, I recommend two since they like to stay in groups and are very social creatures. Just make sure they are both the same gender so you don't have to worry about them fighting. Also, DO NOT use the bedding that Ben used in the video. Rats have very sensitive noses, so don't use wood chipping. If you would like more tips, let me know! 😊
@@lydia9757 About 2 years for the regular rat, though it’s hard to let them go, that’s the biggest flaw. Domesticated rats are way less likely to have diseases than cats or dogs.
@@lydia9757 2-4 years --- I don't know if Yui is referring to like rabies or something but yes rats are fairly prone to becoming ill and can carry different spreadable viruses which is why a clean cage environment is a must
@@After_Pasta they don’t live 2-4 years 😂 ans they are referring to stuff like the plague because people associate rats with contagious disease but let me know if your rats lived to four because that might be a world record
@@Elissa_Reads13 Rats typically have short life stages. Domesticated pet rats normally only live 2-4 years-but the longest living rat in captivity lived to be 7 years old! A pet rat's life expectancy is much better than their wild counterparts, though, who typically live less than a year.
Rats may be a controversial creature but it is still a living creature that has emotions and can feel what we feel. I tear up when watching mice growing up from a small bean to a cute creature so yeah
My rats died last year and I wish I had just one more day with them. Like Ben said, I know there just rats…but they are living, beautiful, intelligent creatures that deserve so much more love and recognition from humanity. You did the right thing giving Remi away and I hope one day, when you’re ready, you can get more rats and experience the wonder that is owning pet rats.
That was a really mature and responsible decision considering how hard it can be to let a pet go, even if you've only had them for some time. You'll find the right pet someday!!! 🐁🐀❤️💗
MATURE would be if he did not buy rat at the first place... I thought he is teenager because of his behaving and looking younger but as an adult person he should know that first you should think if you can take of animal... In this point, I really think he bought him just for the sake of video for likes and views... which is a disgusting move .. Like you can not buy animal It is cute I want it.. He is my age and I can not imagine anyone around me of our age doing something immature, selfish an unresponsible to animals... If he will not do research and buy animals for fun or because it is cute, I hope he wont buy any other animals. The animals do have feelings and you should firstly be prepared for it like for child not just get it and not knowing what next and do not investe time in proper preparing. Luckily he had rat just for a little time because alredy he did a massive mistake taking it outside. This could cost the rat health because they are sensitive on dust and wind and it could give them respiratory problems on which the rats are sensitive.
I genuinely felt so terrible when he started crying, ik how it feels to have to let go of a pet and the amount of pain in his voice and regret is genuinely so sad. I just wanna give Ben a hug and give him a bunch of rats
You did really good as a rat owner, I’ve had a few rats before so I can speak from experience. If you ever want another one then I would get a male as they’re usually more mellow. I would also make sure he’s young so that he has more time to feel comfortable in your care. Having rats is a lot of fun and I’ve never had my rats bite ever which is something beginners often fear
I love how different males and females are. All my males can have zoomies, but love cuddling and pats. My girls however are in zoomie mode forever, unless asleep
@Bryan Wells rats that bite are fairly rare but i have one that liked to bite just about everything in sight for about the first year none of my others have ever been like that
I’m sorry to hear that Ben, when your ready to own another pet I recommend a hamster. Since you seem to be ok with rodents. Not all hamsters are social so you could get a hamster instead so you don’t have to worry about taking care of two rodents. It was very sweet of you to try and make Remy a nice little home but it was for the best, like you said, he’s a social creature. I hope you feel better soon!❤️🩹❤️🩹
@@koi_eats_grass thats’s true, but Ben has owned multiple pets so I think he knows the responsibility pets come with. I’m not saying he should get a hamster right away, he should still do his research, and there are nothing wrong with hamsters. I’m not saying rats aren’t great but if ben’s looking for a non-social creature then I recommend a hamster, or a beta fish, but fishes aren’t really fun. (Sorry if I sound rude rn, I’m just trying to explain my reasoning a little better, but I see your point)
He bought a hamster and made a youtube short about it but he deleted it cause of the negativity. He put it in a small cage and clearly didnt do research. Hope he rehomed it
They're small, so it's natural to think they won't require much work. But yeah, I also learned through experience that it is far from being the case. Those little furballs require so much atention, and can take a lot of time for them to bound with you. Really not a decision to make on a whim. I happy you managed to catch him, and did the responsable thing.
Hey Ben, I know it was difficult for you to give Remy up again but that was probably the most responsible thing you could have done for that little guy. Not many people have the true courage to admit when their home or lifestyle is not fitting for a pet and I really just want to say I am proud of you for taking that essential and responsible step. Use this as a way to learn and treasure the time with him, not as a mistake. Stay strong
Why are you congratulating him.. He was a terrible owner and he shouldn't have gotten the rat in the first place. He did not know anything on how to care for it. He only got 1, and rats need constant attention every second of their life, and the only way you can do that is buying having 2 or more rats. Also he literally let it outside, that can go wrong in so many ways. Returning the rat was the bare minimum. If he had kept that rat for over a day it could have been depressed and or aggressive. He did not do any research whatsoever.
I love how people are commenting how Ben is so funny while meanwhile not even watching the whole video so they don’t even know Ben gets real sad at the end💀 edit: im lowkey probably still gonna get replies like a year from now😭😭😭 edit: i was right its been a year..
It must hurt to give up a pet, not because it was dangerous, but because u felt like u weren't responsible enough, Remy was an adorable chill rat, and i hope he still is an adorable chill rat, and I hope Remy remembers you.😇
I feel this, so glad he did the right thing and yes it’s such a painful choice to give up a pet for that reason. I was in the process of re homing my rats because I developed an allergy to them over time, hives, itchy eyes, coughing, sneezing and all that. I had like 7 months to bond with them before I knew I was allergic and I couldn’t give them up at that point. They have a great life don’t get me wrong and I’m definitely responsible, but my issue remains in the painful hives that I break out into every time I clean their cage or take them out to play. For me it is worth the sacrifice to keep my babies but there are all sorts of valid and heartbreaking reasons someone might have to re home a pet.
10:15 when my parents were always fighting…you were there for me I would watch your videos..that made me feel okay…in fact most of us have you made my home feel like it…thank you ben.
Fun fact: rats didn’t cause the Plague. Yersinia Pestis originated in rat fleas and the rats were just as much a victim of the Plague. Rats groom obsessively and are actually cleaner than cats. I've owned 5 rats and they're total sweethearts.
I'm so glad someone else has said this. There's more studies being shown that it was actually humans spreading the plague. Wild rats can carry some nasties but so does every wild animal. Domesticated rats are good and should only get nasties if they've been outside. You do have to watch out for rat bite fever and it's always good to excersise caution when cleaning their bedding but other than that they shouldn't have diseases. They can catch ringworm and rat lice though, that's why it's always good to quarantine any new rats in the house for two weeks before introing to the current mischief
NOOO REMYYY!!!💔 Ben, it’s completely not you’re fault DONT be upset! You did amazing. It’s a first time for everything! I’m sure you’ll be able to take care of something as your own someday,❤️.
I mean it kinda is his fault lmao he shoulda researched more dont impulse buy animals this the reason majority of animals aren’t treated well and neglected because people just think ah cute and don’t actually realise it’s hard work regardless of the animal
@@hi-ng1jn same as he didn’t have to get a rat for the sake of a video not knowing a thing about it he is like 22 he is more than old enough to understand the responsibilities of pets
@@hi-ng1jn I said what I said he’s breaking down in a car over something he caused this why I don’t think many people should be allowed pets because their often mistreated and not cared for properly which is the exact case here I hope he doesn’t have anymore animals
For people who are looking to get a rat as a pet here is a helpful tip (from someone who owns multiple rats themselves) when you are looking to buy a new fuzzy friend make sure you buy two or more as rats are pack animals and can get depressed when by themselves. You can tell when your fuzzy friend is loney when they stop eating or drinking. Its a very sad fact but it happened to my friend after one of her rats passed before the other had. I'll let you know though that rats are very clingy, love attention, and live to cuddle with one another! But make sure you do the propper research before purchasing one as it may take you by surprise when half of your closet gets eaten by your new friend...... Its okay though I still love him! (Sometimes) hope this helps!!! (Also I don't think you guys care but my rats names are Remy, and Dedenne (yes after the Pokemon and the movie rat) and the newest one is goop)
@@ellierose9444 They make great pets! They are very intelligent and can even be potty trained like a puppy! But know they can be destructive if you don't care for them right. Make sure they have the right food for their diet, the right bedding, and make sure they have many things to hide in or chew. Rodents such as squirrel and rats teeth never stop growing so it's nice for them to have something to chew on. They are also at the bottom of the food chain so they often get anxious if left out in the open. So make sure you have spaces for them to hide in. But please do research before purchasing any animal, especially exotic animals such as birds. Hope this helps you at all!
Tizzy taz.Hi want a rat but I can't get one because I have 2 cats it would not end well. I have a Guinea pig but he's like The size of a bunny so they know not to eat him But they would definitely eat A rat if I had a pet rat because they love hunting rats.
Many people have mentioned rats needing other rats to bond with, so I'll throw in another small but very useful tip for rat care... hide aways! Rats love hiding places. You should put lots of places for rats to hide in their enclosure, it makes them feel safe and it stimulates their instincts in a fun way going from one hiding spot to another. It's very easy to get creative with them, too! There are specific ones like sputniks(a plastic toy that can stand on the cage floor or hang from bars), hammocks, plastic igloos, ferret tubes, etc.. If you can't access these for whatever reason, that's fine! Your average dollarstore will have lots of things like tiny plastic buckets and such. You can also use small cardboard boxes... if you have a confident rat, you will often see them roaming, but when they wanna nap nothing is cuter than walking by the cage and seeing a couple tails hanging out of a hammock from a rat slumber party.
As a person with rats. it makes me happy that you did a mature thing and took remy back, hopefully one day you could get pet rats !! You did a great job taking care of him
The decision you made was such a mature decision. You didn't feel as if you could provide Remy a proper home, so you brought him back to the person you got him from, knowing that they could probably provide a better environment. My sister just got rats maybe less than a year ago, and they are a huge responsibly. Thank you for making the best decision for you and the rat
@@ken-je3ni well i want a belgian malinois and a doberman but i dont get them just because I feel like it, do I? I know i wont be able to give them the proper care so im being the more responsible person by not getting them in the first place, instead of not taking care of them, ruining them completely, giving them several mental & behavioural problems and then giving the problem to someone else to deal with. I’m so sorry ben. I felt the same thing when I adopted my 3 quails. Stupid little me thought it was a good idea to play with them out of the cage. You'd be a great rat owner, Ben just do a lot of research about everything first, for example that you can't use wood-chips or anything and they can't be exposed to dust because they are at a super high risk for respiratory infections. If you do research about everything they can and can't have and what they can safely do then you would be a amazing rat dad lol
Aww Ben, not everyone starts of responsible of raising an animal or a child, I was heart broken when my dog killed my baby chicken who I bonded well with, but I've learnt from my mistakes and I know I can take care of another one better in the future. Tips as a rat owner for anyone looking to get a rat! 1. They are social animals so get at least two 2. Hey is a no no, they have very delicate respiratory systems, I recommend newspaper 3. That’s a male rat (since that input was requested 4. they are very clean creature that clean themselves more often than cats 5. Don’t put bedding over all the surfaces, instead put fabric to help prevent them from getting bumble foot 6. rats love climbing and being high up, that is a good cage but it would be better to add some hammocks and bird toys 7. Rats are very adventurous and balanced so it climbing out of the tank is not a big deal, that rat WILL monkey bar across the celling of her cage and be fine lol 8. For the food I’m not familiar with that food brand but it seemed fine, as long as it doesn’t contain alfalfa, I recommend oxbow 9. Rats won’t bite you unless they are under extreme distress, recovering from abuse or mistook your finger as food 10. I don’t think the mist thingy was a good idea, again they have delicate respiratory system so that could suffocate him 11. You probably shouldn’t be interacting with your rat this much on the first and second day, there are a lot of different methods to get your rat used to you but they all take TIME 12. Don’t set up a play pen outside, just don’t- they could overheat, get out, get eaten by wild animals ect 13. That’s not a good play pen for a rat, he will jump over that so easily 14. Having to give a rat back is a very heartbreaking experience, maybe do better research and try again when you’re in a better place to take care of it
My personal recommendation is to have at least 3 rats so when one of them dies you can take your time getting a replacement for it without having to watch the remaining rat get increasingly stressed out from being on its own.
Im so sorry Remi didn’t work out as a pet, i hope one day you can get a new rat 🐭♥︎. Don't be sad, seeing you sad makes me sad (the ending made me cry just a bit😔😥) Rats are amazing and adorable btw i 100% agree with you! 🥰🥰
I feel bad for Ben I know how it feels to have to give away a pet/lose one and its not fun. NOTE FOR BEN: if you still would like a pet I would recommend a cat (if you aren't allergic) because they are pretty low maintenance and they give the best hugs/cuddles. Also they don't usually run away or anything
one thing you gotta know about having pet rats is you have to be comfortable with picking them up, because they will run away or go into dangerous places that you need to be prepared to grab them (gently of-course) also they usually need another rat with them or they’ll get lonely! thank you for being responsible and taking remy back ❤
not just "usally" they NEED at the very least one other rat. this video is so f*ing irresponsable impulsivly buying a living beeing over the internet.. obviously not reading about how to care for pet rats. buying this poor rat but being afraid to touch it ??? and then giving it away again ( which in this case is the best thing he did in the video)
@@katii1997 i 100% agree sorry it’s been a while since i’ve had rats but after one of them died ( of old age ) the other one was always very sad but we couldn’t get another one so in the end we had to put her down it was so sad and people need to do research before they buy pets
It was very responsible to give remy back. I believe that if you do research, and make sure that you have a proper habitat for a rat to live, you would make a great rat dad Ben. I’m sorry this happened. Sending love your way ❤️
Omg when your rat runs away it is terrifying but I'm glad you got him back haha. They are so great at climbing. Thankfully you took him back. He needs friends to be happy and he'd need a lot of affection and bonding time. They are a commitment.
