I Bought a Refurbished Steam Deck 

Do we know if the digital exclusive goodies on the 256 & 512 versions would still be available on refurbs?

I got mine yesterday. 64GB model as well. It's basically new with 100% battery health and no single sign of use. First thing I did was swap SSD for 256GB Samsung I found for 10$ and inside everything was perfect, even screws were scratchless (and they show scratch after one screwing). Pretty impresive on how good the deal is. There is no other handheld device with such power in this price. Over night I nearly completed game Stray with constant 45fps on medium graphics and it was a pleasure to play on handheld again after 10 years when I got my first Nintendo DS Lite.

I got mine in the US, which I believe was during their first sale ever for 10% off. I purchased the 64 GB model and performed an upgrade to the internal SSD to a 256 GB SSD for very cheap off of eBay. I was already an avid pc gamer so I already had a 450+ game library. Great system, GTA V on the go still boggles my mind.

That's flawless, the Steam Deck looks amazing, and I can assure you that the steam deck doesn't come with a film protector on the display, I bought the 512gb model brand new and it only came with a microfiber cloth.

I picked one up at the same time, and it arrived 6 days later, was a 256 model, it looks brand new no evidence of it ever being used, apart from the claim reward thing. very happy overall.

My experience was almost exactly the same as yours. As soon as a saw there were refurbished model available I jumped at the chance to buy one. I wanted the 64Gb model so that I could upgrade the m.2 dive but getting hold of one has been impossible and the refurbished prices meant I could get a 256Gb model for just over the cost on a new 64Gb model. My unit like yours was basically brand new and I was also unable to claim my Steam reward. I have got some light leak on the screen but this seems to be a general deck issue and whether you get light leak seems to be very much luck of the draw. Having seen Wulffden's video it wouldn't surprise me if it is related to construction variables with the screen being clamped too tightly in places. Manufacturing tolerances on an inexpensive (in comparison to its rivals) piece of hardware combined with assembly variables are probably the main cause. Hundreds of workers assembling them will torque the screws differently and I doubt they are provided with torque specifications for the fixings let alone torque setting tools. The light leaks are not a deal breaker and unnoticeable when gaming unless I cant run in 16:10 aspect ration and there are black bars top and bottom. Is it annoying knowing the hardware is not perfect, yes. Is it a deal breaker worth RMAing the device - not for me.

I bought a refurbished 256GB model, it arrived 5 days after ordering, mine is mint condition, like yours absolutely no issues. Apart from the rewards thing. I bought a SanDisk 1TB SDcard, and other bits and bobs. Very Happy with my purchase 👍👍👍👍👍😉

The annoying thing is I was going to buy one but assumed they weren’t out in the uk as the website wasn’t working on mobile so I didn’t realise it was just the mobile browser that was the issue by the time I realised and found this out they were all sold out and I feel like the 512 model is so much more expensive than it’s worth it than the 64gb model considering the ssd is under 100 and the screen cover is about 10. It just doesn’t seem worth while value buying that one. So now I’m just constantly checking, annoying.

64 gb refurbished with a 512 gb SSD replacement is the most efficient buy you can do as a gamer, blows the crappy switch out of the water

Only the 512 GB Model comes with an anti-glare screen protector. You can ofc buy a decent screen protector for quite inexpensive HOWEVER, there is a big difference between cheap and quality screen protectors with anti-glare. A good anti-glare wont heavily blur the screen like the cheaper ones do. I recommend you read reviews and do your research before choosing one.

b̶r̶o̶u̶g̶h̶t̶ bought ;) I also got one of the refurbished 64GB models - Emudeck is absolutely awesome but the guides tend to miss out fine tuning, such as gyro controls and VRAM. I'll be putting a 512GB NVMe in it today, to dual boot to Windows. I'm not sure if I'll use Windows much but I like that I'll be able to install Game Pass games locally.

They also should re open the wait list for them. I’d happily pay now and then wait 2 months for one to arrive but atm. It’s no knowing when they’re going to be stocked. Stupid.
