I am among the many who want to see Saab back in the market.. Beautiful cars... It seems general motors hand picked some of the best brands in the world and put them to ruins. Shame.

Agree there, seen some of the crap brands they have ? Buick to name a few they are so bad at handling that you turn a Buick (non 4x4) in a sharp turn say to avoid hitting a object expect to flip. Vauxhalls are rubbish compared to Saab like I have got a few Vauxhall I have been that put off I would prefer to walk or go in a Lada, defo be more reliable. Vauxhalls poor brand

I have had three SAABs from new. 2xSaab 95 Aero and finally a 95 Aero, HOT. Tuned and lowered by HIRSCH Performance. SAAB were not cars, they were missiles 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Let's be honest, Saab going bust had nothing to do with GM. Saab just didn't make economical cars. Unbelievable quality & safety, but that came at a cost.

I helped design this car (front end) in Trollhatten. There weren't enough computers to work on, so all the design engineers had to work shifts, often late in to the night.

I agree the cheap cars need an 'update' video. If the car goes up for sale, let us know what was done to prepare it for sale. I do not expect you to repair each issue, just the ones you deem important. Maybe give is a few detailing tips. If the car is going to the salvage yard to be dismantled, then just show us a short clip of the car being loaded on a flatbed.

I have an old Saab, and it suits me. I've often thought that in general, if you assume that people are able to buy the car they want, within reason, then the car they buy is quite a good representation of their personality; a bit like their clothes. My Saab is old (like me), but runs like a Swiss watch. It's been given some botox in the form of a bigger intercooler/exhaust/brakes/intake and a substantial hike in power thanks to the wonders of remapping, but it looks stock. Like a Swedish hitman in a civilised suit; you don't know what's coming until it's too late. To me, Saabs have always had the perfect image; they have a quiet quality about them, they don't make you look like a twat (like an Audi/BMW will), they don't make you look like a boy racer, they fly under the cops' radar (unlike your average Golf R/WRX/Focus RS etc), and the chavs and thieves ignore them. And a tuned 9-5 Aero will blitz almost anything on the road in real world conditions. So much fun for so little money.

My dad was a Saab driver, the first one he had was a 900 turbo with the 16 valve engine and he only ever bought Saabs after that. It always makes me a little sad when I see one as that they stopped making them not long after he died

A good friend of mine had a SAAB 900 turbo and he thrashed that thing like a redhead orphan. For years. After seeing that, any misgivings I had about turbos went away because I realised that provided the engine and turbo are well matched, they can be reliable.

I used to drive a 9-3 saloon. I was a top spec model and was one of the most comfortable cars I have ever owned and was fantastic for a long journey. Shame they stopped making them...

If someone hasn't already said, blower motor is passenger side under scuttle panel, check the rubber drain isn't blocked up as mine was which then meant water came in through where the blower is and then flooded the passenger footwell. Cyclone Cyd has some helpful videos on this.

Just bought 2006 wagon. One of the nicest cars i've driven. Warms up fast and a smooth ride. 1.8t with the 2 litre engine isn't too weak either. Well worth a 1000€.

I bought the saloon brand new in 2005, got 8 years motoring, 82000 miles out of it before part exing it for another new car. It had a few issues, but all dealt with under warranty. 2 alternators went . Rear coiled springs broke. EGR issues, gear stick cap used to fly off in the summer, but, the car was so comfortable, and powerful, it was the turbo edition 150hp TiD Sport. I still see it on the road now, 16 years old and still going.

@@leebenstead7171 Sorry, have to jump in there..... take my wife`s current 9-3 Aero for example, 2008, 2.0T petrol convertible. The chassis began life in a Vectra, but was deemed (rightly so) crap by Saab, shortened & strengthened. The loom is GM, granted. The Engine began life in the Vectra SRI, which again Saab deemed as crap, so they basically tipped it upside down & emptied it into the bin. The block alone is GM, the internals, ancillaries, turbos, heads, cams blah blah blah, ALL Saab. Also don`t forget the ReAxs 4 wheel steer system on all 9-3s post 2003. So they`re even fun in the twisty bits! At the moment, I have the 9-3 TTiD Aero, I will admit it has been tweaked by Abbott Racing Saab, but I now have a twin turbo 1.9 diesel, with full electric heated leather, electric everything, 4 wheel steer, basically all the toys & the twin chrome pipes against the black body work look the nuts.... & that`s all most people see anyway as I have 480nm on tap! I have a friend with a 335i.... he put his boot down & looked in the mirror with a smile on his face........as I went by him lol then the excuses started.....

@@brobno9 The rear steer, though they never officially called it such, makes the 9-3 a deceptively good handler. But when it goes wrong like a boot going on the control arm ball joint? it gets pretty scary. And because too many garages just call it a Vectra, have no clue thats even a problem. My last 9-3 I had well over half its life, and 10+ years. It was somebody who hit the back wheel while parked, damaging the cross member and doing a runner that forced my hand. Could get any control arm for it, but not a cross member. Still miss it. Was a car I put a lot of work into keeping it pristine.

I used to have the proper old 900 turbo's, and adored them , (still do) , then I got a 120horse 9-3 vector sport, in snow silver, absolutely loved it, hate to admit, but my wife and I shed a tear when we sold it, and I got a 63 Audi A5, it's a good car, but I still really miss my Saab. I think once you've had one they get under your skin.

Nearly every teacher at my school in the Cotswolds had one of these! Our Science teacher had the '2.3t aero HOT' model, and took great delight in mercilessly gunning it out of the school gates at full chat, at 3pm. Great stuff!

I had a 55 plate 93 Saloon and it was the comfiest, most economical and reliable car I've ever owned, it was like the Terminator, it never stopped and could handle anything

My mother had a Saab 9000 from new from 1991 to 2004. Absolutely LOVED that car. A huge, roomy continent crosser in automatic and light grey leather. Happy to be in it all day in the back seat. Economy was OK too. She traded now has a Saab 93 from 2008 which she bought in 2012 and still has today. It looks like new and very nice respectable professionals car without shouting about it....Time to check out auto trader I guess.😀

Owned a 9-3 and a 9-5 and still can't believe how nice they are to drive. When I see one on the roads these days I tend to say out loud, 'nice SAAB' more than I say 'Oh look, a Tesla'. Is that wrong? lol

I bought a 2003 93 linear, unseen from Birmingham. I was living in Slovakia at the time. Flew to bmi, picked up the car and drove it nearly 1500 miles back. That's the confidence SAAB gives. Brake lights stuck on somewhere in Germany but otherwise no issues whatsoever. Ran it in Slovakia for 6 month then diesel pump went and I was quoted more to fix than I paid for the car. Second saab I owned. It's memories that make a car. I paid 900 quid for it then sold it for 500 euros to a saab club member for parts.

THAT...is the sign of the skill of a true motor dealer. You cant buy that sort of knowledge. You have to learn it over years of hard-won lessons, losses, and mistakes.

Most reliable and comfortable car I've ever had was a 2.0t 9 5 estate. I now have a 9 3 convertible. Loads of car for not much money and my experience has been, as with the 9 5, totally positive. Oh, and Jack Nicholson's character in "As good as it gets" has one. So they are pretty cool too. OK, I'm biased but they really are great cars. Thanks for sharing.

Great video. I love my saab 9-3 convertible 1.9 TID. Its good on fuel pulls strong and just feels like a quality car. I've had the odd electrical issue but that's General motors fault not saabs! And even though I have owned it for 5 years I just love it.

Had the blower motor pack up on my wife's Q7 (on the hottest day of the year!). Took it out, cleaned it up and gave it a good coating of silicone grease, working as good as new after. Saved a few hundred quid.

I once worked for a very successful businessman, he only ever had a Saab 95 as a company car in various incarnations but always a 95. He swore by them, in all the time I worked for him I didn’t hear of one breaking down.

Used to have a 2.8 Petrol 9-3 Aero - loved the car, the fuel efficiency was terrible.... I could not drive 300 miles to a tank so i spent half my life at a petrol pump. Loved the comfy seats and the mid range overtaking was insane. Also I remember it had a night mode that made it feel like a fighter plane.

Even with its issues it's still way too good to scrap, especially with 8 months MOT. Definitely worth £500 to someone who is doing some bangernomics and doesn't mind a bit of fettling. I'd a Saab 9-3 (first generation) 2.0 HOT Aero and it was an outstanding car for the money, made more financial sense than it really should have.

@@domi9577 Don't be such a melodramatic fool. It does have a DPF. It is not "killing people". It is band F (of A to M). Around the time this car was new the first scrappage scheme came into being, when we were all encouraged to ditch polluting old cars for new diesels such as this. It has been proven that the amount of resources used in the creation of new cars obliterates the environmental damage caused by the emissions of an older car. It is kinder for the environment to keep existing cars going as long as reasonably possible before building new ones. Before commenting it is worth considering: "It is better to remain silent and be thought of as a fool than speak and remove all doubt".

Because the production has high amounts of carbon monoxide emission, especially electric cars. In reality, it's just better to keep old cars instead of scrapping them and turning them into new cars.

Take the plastic scuttle panel out remove all leaves and unblock drain tube,dry out or replace cabin filter lubricate and dry out fan change fuse if blown and hopefully you have a working fan (then refix plastic scuttle panel)

Saabs .... gotta miss them. I had 3 in the 1990s and early 2000s - they were fantastic, particularly my early edition 9000 CDE Turbo. Great bit of all or nothing performance. I was getting concerned about your trainers but am glad that the roadman coat appeared to keep them company! Great videos, Matt - keep up the good work - best real-world stuff on youtube.

I love my 9-3 Aero - 57 plate, 120k miles (75k when I got it) and still drives like a MUCH newer car. It was well looked after before I got it, and still looks stunning when it's freshly washed. Had it 'Noobtuned' up to 250bhp, so it has a nice portion of 'get-up-and go', yet does it quietly with none of the shouty drama you get from most other cars that are as quick. One thing I find amusing is when someone asks what I drive and I say 'Saab' - I get replies such as "Yeah that figures..." - I'm a photographer and Saabs just seem to have that image of being driven by people who's work is commonly considered as creative.

Well as a proud Owner of a Saab 93 1.9TID Vector Sport (150BHP) There superb cars, I get just over 500miles to a full tank, Don't get me wrong it's had its share of common faults such as DPF blocked, Airbag Light etc. However after having the DPF removed and mapped out for the MOT, It drives great, More powerful and great on fuel. I only paid £1200 with 12months mot and I've now owned it over 2 years and done a whopping 68,000 miles in 2 years, She's now on 217,300 and pulling strong. My parents also own the Saab 900Turbo 16V, and a 93 1.9TTID (180) Superb cars and certainly a shame they went bust back in 2010. But hopefully NEVS Will soon be in production and the saab will live on... Not to mention the great online forums for owners, including Meets, Saab wizards, qnd of course the only car to drive past each other and Wave 👋

The heater motor is a 20min job by setting the windscreen wipers to fully up, then opening the bonnet, removing the rubber seal and grating and then spraying some WD40 into the top of the motor. Also fully extend the seatbelt and spray silicon oil onto all but the part that would touch your clothing. Jobs done

Owned and still own a 2008 Saab 93 twin turbo aero estate which is very well specced for the year. Now close to 200K miles and amongst the previous Audi, BMW, and Honda I owned before, the Saab has been the best at everything hence just don't want to change it. Granted, in town it's not an exciting car to drive but it munches the motorway miles like no other car I've driven before and it's very economical. Also very impressed by how quickly it picks up speed with its 180 horses and the turbos. Very very comfy seats and enough space. Real shame they don't make them any more.

I had one for years, changed the oil and filters every 5000miles, apart from the normal wear and tear on brakes and a few other mechanical things it never failed me. With over 200,000 miles on it I sold it to a friend and he put another ridicules amount of miles on it.

I had one of the last 9-3’s. A 2011 tt-id. Fantastic car. I only parted with it because I live within the London ULEZ and it’s not compliant. Though of course I spent far more in replacing it than once or twice a week ULEZ costs. I noticed that other Saab drivers would wave at each other! Great shame they went bust.

Great video, I am a happy driver of the Saab 9.3 sport sedan tuned hirsch. Extremely fast car, comfortable, low cost, great seats, fantastic audio system, never let me down. Looks are also great. You still see them fairly a lot in netherlands.Hard to let go my Saab so will keep on driving it. I can afford very expensive cars but guess a lot of Saab drivers like me do not like to show off and want to spend their money one other things. It fits me this attitude.

I love a Saab, or two. I have a 2005 9-3 Aero with factory Hirsch Stage 2 upgrade from new which makes 252hp and 380Nm. It’s now on 160k and I’m the third owner. It’s got MASSIVE history and I’ve practically rebuilt it with Bilstein/Eibach etc and 18” Turbines. Don’t use a drop of fluid and I change oil every 2000 miles. I also have a 2010 9-5 Aero Hot Turbo Edition with all options from factory including the 260Hp B235R engine. It’s also on 151k from new. Both of my Saab’s are mint and with HUGE service history. Both are manual as well which makes them quite unique. Not a spot of rust anywhere. I love this brand.

I guess checking the tyres goes some way to see how the previous owner viewed maitenance & upkeep. If tyres are all mismatched perhaps they had a problem avoiding hazards on the road and kept on damaging their tyres ( makes you wonder how many accidents the car may have been in?) If it has Chinese or other unknown brands then they he must be a cheap Charlie who goes for the cheapest on hand. If he has Michelin’s, Continental’s etc then you know they are fastidious with performance & ride quality and most likely took a similar approach on the all round maitenance of the car..

Always loved these cars. £300 in these mad days is an absolute steal. the 120 bhp diesel is the better of the 2 models as well. No swirl flaps to enter the engine. The 2.0 petrol engines are hard to find these days, unless you want a convertible. Would love another 175 horse petrol saloon.

My daughter had a black 9-3 saloon, loved its style and it was pretty rapid, plastics were starting to grey and DMF was starting to rattle but would have been worth doing until she wrapped it around a pub!

Heater motor access is on passenger side - remove seal that holds scuttle down - lift scuttle - cabin filter underneath - remove - heater motor behind - lubricate shaft - if flooded - look in front of cabin filter you will see drain - poke that through ! good luck 🤞

There's something special about a car thats done 200k, yet has been well looked after enough/well built enough, to still have 50k or so life left in it...proper eco' motoring. I'm sure this Saab will clean up to be a saleable car with a wee bit of profit in it? Looking forward to the restoration video!

I have a 2010 9 3 Sportwagen diesel, automatic, leather interior. A great car with 39 mpg. Just not worth changing as I am 76 and not unrealistic about me going to the scrappers before it.

I bought my Saab 93 convertible on the back of your video @High Peak Autos and have never looked bk 2007 had the chains replaced full service new battery and never misses a beat i had newer cars that give me no more confidence than this car i will keep it till it dies and at 105k that going to be some time away thanks for your video

Never had a Saab, but have had a Volvo, was built like a tank and the ride was pretty good plus it was easy to use to drive, best car I ever had was a Lada Cossack, yes was basic and rough, but always put a smile on my face and off road was a gem.

Fair condition for the mileage Matt and I’d say there was scope there. Fix the seat belt niggles, find the history documents and a new generic cap for the fluids and that’s an easy £5-650 to a savvy buyer. Great video! 💯👍

I had a 93 2.0 turbo lin... Best car ... heater motor is correct .. wd40 that bad boy. Its from the passenger side . Remove the cabin filter and you should see it.

Drove a 9.3 as courtesy car for a few weeks once and it quite grew on me, liked its quirkiness when I got used to it and would have been a good left field choice! For 300 quid you can't go far wrong and this car would be a great example of bangernomics for someone. Fixing the heater would probably help to sell it this time of year !!

Currently driving a 2007 Saab 9-3 SportSedan with the big 2.0 turbo. Quite fun to drive, decent fuel economy for what it is and has been fairly reliable considering what I paid for it. Recently blew a flat tire though the other day, but other than that these things are gold!

Just bought a week ago a saab 9-5 diesel estate, 58plate with 99k. Fully loaded, black leather, climate control etc & I love it, alot of car for £550. Wierd combination with a fiat engine, vectra chassis & saab finesse! Your saab is defo worth at least £500 or more to someone, big fan of bangernomics.

Wow, considering the mileage, how clean is that interior, it's pretty tidy all round, love your videos mate, you cover all types of cars, reminds me of the days when I used to go to auctions and salvage auctions too, I miss going actually, always a buzz for me, learning about different cars and there different mechanics along the way, learnt a lot.. keep up with the good videos 👌

I used to do a lot of bodywork on Saabs at the bodyshop I work at. They love to rust, the plastic always gets sticky and the automatics were horrible. We had two 93 as loaner cars. They were quite reliable (but horrible in the end). But you could beat on them relentlessly. Did a ton of neutral drops and never had an issue.

For an 06 9-3 with +200k miles, and a few months MOT, gotta be worth £500-£550 if it runs OK. That one looks like the 120bhp variant though, not the 150bhp that I had.

Worked at Saab as a student back in 05-06, they had a 900 in the showroom with 1.000.000 KM on it, that's around 600.000 miles give and take. A guy bought it new back in the early 90's, put 600.000 miles on it, brought it back to the dealer, and traded it in for free on a new Saab 9-3 i think, the dealership got such good advertisement with that car, they decided to hand the owner a brand new 9-3 for free in trade for his old 900. These cars where very reliable, and i will never forget the test drive my fellow mecanic made with myself being the passenger, in a 9-3 Aero with 2.8 6-Cyl, that car was perfect in every way!

This looks very decent indeed for the money, nice one. I picked up a 9-3 Convertible 2.0 Turbo for £350 just before Christmas, MOT to May and generally very tidy. I now appreciate these cars as I had previously and wrongly dismissed them as a Vectra c with a different body.

Hi matt, I had a Saab 95, estate 2.2 for years took both Saabs well above 250 thousand miles, loved them both, now run peugeot 3008, which I've had for 3,1/2. years with out any fault, and I can't wait for my new 5008 in March 22, love your report's mate

Nice! Love these cars. I had an '06 2.8 V6 saloon. Fantastic car and rapid, right up until the engine decided to have some terminal timing chain issue (and only at 80k miles). The specialist up in Glossop (I think) couldn't sort it after stripping it all down so it went for scrap :'(

As an 18 year old I was on the Costa Del Sol for 6 weeks between Fuengirola, Marbella and Puerto Banus and I do actually remember those train stop announcements! Blast from the past there thanks. Planned to work for the summer, decided it was too hot and just lasted as long as my stash of cash. A right experience!

I had a 9-3. Bought it for £3900 and within a year I'd doubled that in repair bills. Terrible car full of junk GM parts! They are best avoided imo.

To clear the cabin fan system its actually on the glovebox side for anyone watching. The problem is normally the drain gets clogged up, which if you feel behind/below the radiator bottle theres like a u-bend and a plastic flap. Keep that clear and you're good. If it clogs up, water builds up and gets into the fan and control module (which is usually what goes rather than the motor). Its usually pretty obvious as you find the carpet damp on the passenger side.

Fan Motor -Thru the glovebox, not the scuttle panel. see Cyclone Cyd RU-vid channel, great vid on "how to fix and why they break 👍PS took my 9-3 to 247,000 miles. Sold it for £800 and it did another 12k for the next owner.

In the United States SAAB "FAN BOY'S" would be throwing wads of $100.00 bills at you begging for the privilege of purchasing it. Then they would claim it can outrun a Lamborghini, out handle a Lotus, is more luxurious than a Rolls Royce and more reliable than a Toyota.

Heater blower motors have brushes that eventually wear out. I have replaced the brushes on a Passat blower motor, 30p for genric motor brushes of about the right size, sanded to fit an a whole afternoon to fit, had to remove the passenger airbag. Sometimes hitting the dash settles the brushes and gets you a few more weeks of life.

I have a 55 plate 9-3 convertible.. 210 bhp ultra reliable.. it has only 91000 miles and still drives like new but I have cleaned out heater motor before of crap as it stopped working,, but all in all stylish and great cars a big future classic.

Tell me if I am wrong but as I know, the seat belt has to be washed in soapy water and then it will go back on its own. The problem is that over the years the grease from the hand of the driver made the seat belt weigh more and this is why it doesn`t get pulled back automatically. Btw, Saab has always been my childhood dream car and this 9-3 with its taillights... it seemed like a spaceship to me back then. Thanks for the memories. Love this brand! :)

Bought our 04 95 Aero 4 years ago from an old from a dealer for £400 on New Year’s Eve. 78k on the clock, history but horrible body work from previous old guy owner. Fast forward 4 years and 52,000 miles later the wife loves it so much we shipped it to Canada when we emigrated in August! She even has a name for the bloody thing! I’ve grown so fond of it I’m actually considering getting everything done cosmetically to make it perfect. Other than crappy GM suspension components it’s been faultless. Keep the oil and sparks fresh it goes like a rocket!

I have an 06 9-5 Vector Sport 185bhp Petrol saloon, Xenons, Cruise, Tiptronic, half leather two stage heated seats, 17" ten spoke alloys, 9 speaker cd system, Bluetooth, heated electric folding mirrors that auto dim in conjunction with the rear view mirror, a/c, auto wipers, auto headlight washers, same tuned sports suspension as the Aero, for a big car it flies, and that's without the planned Noob tune remap to 235bhp. It's rock solid, dependable and silent when driving. I was chasing a 911 up the A22 the other day.....

Hey man, I really like your videos! I recognise a lot from them. As a side job I help car sellers pick up cars for their businesses and sometimes I’ll photograph them as well. I am a 20 year old student and I own/daily drive a Saab 9-3 OG (1998-2002). I have always been a big fan of Saabs and cars in general. Hi Matt I bourght a 9-5 estate 1.9 diesel, after I lost my job 5 yes ago and plush Audi A5 etc etc...cost me £950.00 from a doubtful private trader in Birmingham, I did 120k miles in 3 yes, never serviced it,then some oik drove into the back of me, wrote it off etc,insurance gave me £2400, I bought it back for £400.00..i ran it for another 8 months until the usual egr probs and px it for an mint Audi A4 cab.for £450...job done...happy new year..

@@HighPeakAutos yes, it's winter too 🤣. My wife drive's a 2007 9-3 diesel, 110k miles, it's had some serious surgery over the last 6 months.....latest issue, burning oil like crazy, topping up every few weeks, apparently it's common on the 120bhp 1.9's.

I currently run (3 1/2 years now) a 90k 55 plate Aero saloon, I can honestly say its been the best car I have owned over the last 30 years! It goes like the wind and other than regular annual servicing and a couple of sticking NSF calliper's its been fantastic, supremely comfortable and even gets up to 40 MPG on a sensible run, I bought it from a friend for £1400 and can say its been a bargain, always drives lovely and feels very safe for an older car, just service use good oil (Mobil1) and drive, would buy another in a heartbeat, shame the later ones command £500 plus road tax
