Have to agree. As a motorcycle enthusiast, i never considered owning a scooter until i rode one in the Philippines. Light and a blast to drive, and the gas and insurance savings are the cherry on top.
I've done a few long trips and every times i was still very comfortable even after several hours, it is very relaxing to ride to come back home from work too !
Due to multiple surgical procedures to my left leg, it no longer bends….ive been riding 2 wheels since I was 5 (now 67), owned, repaired and restored so many bikes I’ve lost track. I was a road racer back in the 60’-80’s. I had to sell all of my motorcycles and picked up an 03 Honda Reflex years ago and it’s been the best ride we’ve ever owned! Step though, automatic, comfortable, lots of luggage space (tail trunk) and easy to maneuver around. Easy to load onto carrier or the car hauler trailer behind our Class A RV. Thank you for this great video. Enjoy and be safe out there.
Absolutely fantastic vid. Two days ago i bought a 2005 Burgman 650 with 17,000 miles for $2,000 USD. I love this Burgman. Twist and go is wonderful. Keep your vids coming on your scooter journey. Thanks from Seattle.
I have been riding over 20 years with A license, experienced many different styles from adventure to cruiser. While I was experiencing different bikes I always kept a scooter in my garage. After selling my sym joyride 200, bought and fall in love with Burgy400AN K6. I owned for over 10 years, in comparison with other “regular” bikes my tours on same routes were always better with Burgy. Say a 350-400km ride, after that I had energy to walk-discover-enjoy the place that I visited without getting exhausted. Now I have a 250cc Yamaha X max, bit less comfortable than burgy but better road handling, better storage space, better cornering like a motorbike but scooter. With a 46l topcase I have over 100l storage. More than enough for touring, some times enough for shopping 😂. As guru’s say you don’t need a adventure bike to have an adventure!
I guess this popped up due to me owning a 650. If you ever get a 650, make sure it's an executive. That comes with heated seat front and rear, heated grips, ABS, and electric windscreen + wing mirrors. Also the weight is no joke. I'm 6'3 and 130lbs and struggle. She's a heavy girl. Fully wet, she pushes 640lbs. It is by far the biggest reason people prefer the 400. The Burgman 400/650 to me are touring bikes at heart. Their only scooter heritage is the terrible name and the fact they're CVTs. I bought a cheap Burgman 650 as an all weather, all year round bike to compliment my sportsbike addiction. It's now my favourite bike ever and the bike I've used the most. Great video mate.
At the time i'm writting this, i sold my 400 for a 2008 650 executive, it's a wonderful machine but the 400 was more fun to ride, you can't go wrong with either of them, personnally none of them feels heavy when riding compare to conventionnal motorcycles
I sold my YZF600 (R6) and bought a J300, I miss the acceleration of the YZF but I'm much happier with the J300. I have back problems and getting on the j300 is a breeze compared to getting on a motorbike, it also feels much lighter (I'm pretty sure on paper it's heavier), it's easier to reverse out of parking spaces and I can get a full weeks worth of groceries on it! It's twice as economical, it sits at motorway speeds no problem and it leaves cars at the lights. Servicing is a doddle and tyres are less than half the price of the YZF. Ironically my insurance went up when I changed bikes, despite having several years no claims and both bikes being worth around the same! I doubt I'd go back to a motorbike even if my back recovered and that's something I never thought I'd say.
americans have huge ego with a toxic masculine complex that makes them think they need big loug motorcycles and trucks in order to "be a man"". - an American
I picked up a new Burgman200 a few months ago, and have 1200/mi on the clock. It is slightly cramped feeling for me at 5'11" w/32" inseam, but it's not uncomfortable. It's everything mentioned in the video, and I avg 74mpg US. I've had it up to 75mph on the interstate with no problems. Even though there's plenty storage underseat, I will be ordering a topcase from my local Suzuki dealer soon. Ride safe ya'll....
@@ryszardlorenc7047 great recommendation, that's exactly why I don't have one, i would love to have a bag that can velcro in the empty space between the legs
I’ve been riding bikes for about 30 years, but 4 years ago I sold my cbf600 and got the xmax, I love it so much that I got another maxi scooter, the burgman200, love them both and will never go back to motorcycles,
Hey Matthew I'm curious to watch your video here. I just got done totaling out a 2006 Bergman 400 scooter that was hit by a deer when I was going 45 miles an hour. The impact totaled the scooter but I was only hurt a minor amount, but the ER doc said without a helmet I'd be dead and quite agreed. That Burgman scooter was running so great it had 21,000 miles on it, and my only complaint was high oil consumption at highway speeds above 6,000 RPMs and the CVT tuning was fussy - meaning it was hard to get it to allow for low revs at highway speeds. I hear the later Bergman's had solved that problem and the 650 has a more advanced wet CVT so it's not an issue on the 650. But yeah I'm a huge Maxi scooter of fan. I actually rode that Bergman 400 from East Texas to San Diego and back on a 4500 mile tour so they can do the big miles. Maybe the only negative of the 03-07 Burgman 400 is the small 13-inch wheels. 2008 and newer have larger ones like a 14-in or 15-in wheel which is a better plan. I did put a dark side rear tire (car tire) on my Bergman and that made all the difference because of all the extreme wear on a rear tire on a maxi scooter. It's even worse than a regular motorcycle due to being so much % weight on rear tire. After that wreck I'm now on a similar bike by Suzuki, a Vstrom 650 adventure Touring bike. It's a very different machine more able to tour a high speeds but also less practical for short trips around town and storage is seriously lacking compared to the Bergman. In fact I've just ordered side saddlebags and that pannier carriers to hold them. But I will definitely consider and look for either a newer Bergman 400 or possibly a 650. I'm a fan of simplicity and the dry CVT on the 400 Bergman has more appeal for me. It's something to consider if you're looking at Suzuki maxi scooters and can't decide between 400 and 650. Thanks for the review God bless and ride safe David in Texas.
Thank you, what a great history ! I didnt know about the different wheel size, but my 2008 feels really stable on highway, i don't "need" more power but sometimes i wish there was a little more, no oil consumption on my side !
I'm considering buying one of these soon. Like you I have owned and ridden everything out there. As I get older, these seem to appeal to me more everyday. No need to impress anyone, just want to enjoy the machine. Thanks for the great video. Ride safe 🏍
I split the difference between motorcycle and scooter by getting a Honda CTX700 with DCT transmission. I added mini floorboards, factory bags and a longer rear shock. I give up some storage space but I believe the DCT is better than the E-CVT and the larger wheels are better for the freeway. I get the same MPG as your scooter too. 70mph is only 4k RPM on the Honda.
Unfortunately Honda Canada only brought in the 6-spd CTX700...I had a line on a CTX with the DCT that some guy brought in from the States, but it was in pretty rough shape for the money he was asking, so I passed on it. I had an '18 NC750X DCT and I really liked it, but honestly, I find myself riding, and enjoying my Maxi-scooter a whole lot more...maybe it's the fact that I'm 57 now???
@@catalin1859 Chain is easy with a center stand. I'd rather do that then change rear diff oil like on a scooter. The factory keyed bags and small "frunk" are enough for me. The motor is just about flat in the frame keeping the center of gravity very low. 60,000 miles and still loving it. The E-CVT will likely grenade by then, at least that's what they say on the Burgman forums.
After watching this... I'm seriously thinking about getting a scooter. Older rider. Thanks for the great review and information. Ride safe. Cheers from the States.
I have a 2018 Kymco X-Town and I love it, I hate shifting. I am really tall and just got tired of the hassle. your scooter is nice and a very reliable brand. Congrats, ride safe pal.
Nice review. Very fair. I had a B650 and loved it for its power, storage and that with a passenger there was no apparent loss of power. But it was a beast to manoeuvre manually as it has no neutral being a CVT bike and heavy. The 400 is more utilitarian but lighter. Since my wife no longer rides with me it makes a better one rider option. One thing not mentioned. As a cyclist having the brakes controlled by handlebar levers is just natural and you can also finesse the brakes better than when using a hand and foot brake pedal combination. Better for emergency stopping.
Brilliant review! I am facing the choice of which should be my first motorcycle, and the Burgman 400 is at the top of the list. I have not had the chance to ride one yet unfortunately and am still not sure about how cool it looks compared to something like a KTM Duke 390 or a Yamaha R3. But your review was very helpful!
Ride safe !
I bought my burgman 400 site unseen in Seattle and drove it 3500 miles home, doing many mountan passes and adventures on the way! If doing a longer trip again, i would add a larger wind screen, heaver clutch weights to get the rpm down a bit when doing 75 mph, and i would darkside it. What a great bike to see the countryside with, and it handles like a dream. Doing Beartooth Pass, i was able to drag the center stand! Lol 😂😅
I was a Harley rider for 40 years and then i tried a scooter on a holiday to Thailand and i have not gone back to the Harley since i was so impressed and had so much fun on the scooter i was wondering why i waited so long to switch.
Being shaft driven, is a great selling point. Can't understand why reviewers almost never emphasize that feature. Shaft driven scooters are ahead of chain driven scooters.
I felt old and worried when I sold my motorcycle and bought my first 350cc scooter, but it is so much easy and fun to ride... I just don't want to go back to motorcycles ... I'm 40 by the way 😅
Great video. I have the same bike. You can also buy a trunk of it, mine came with one but I don't ride with it on much unless I go to the grocery store. Enjoy!
Thank you friend, this was really a fantastic video, I totally agree I owe a Yamaha TMax 560 tech Max, you reminded me of all the reasons why I ended up getting a maxi scooter, fantastic all around practicality and comfort.. thanks again for a great video👍🏽👍🏽💛🙌🏽😊
It's s good scooter, I sell them for years. Today in my country Spain it's s little expensive and maybe needs the actual model some modifications in comparison with other brands. But it's fun and a part from luggage space, riding comfort etc, in summer no extra heat engine
at 4:03 this man says something that only riders that use the motorcycle for very long trips will understand . Every time i hear someone talking about changing the exhaust for louder noise, they usually do their nails at a salon, use tampons, and ride 10 miles a year
I see that you are not a native English speaker. That said I completely enjoyed your video and loved the part at the end where you climbed into the storage compartment. I don't think I will fit in there, but I'm looking to trade my Honda Shadow 750 for a 3-400cc scooter for all of the reasons you noted. Thanks again for a fun and thought provoking video. ✌
Excellent review ... I too have had close to 20 motorcycles from GS1200 to Harley road glide and now have a Ducati Monster SP .. Since I got the 400 I ride it way more than the Ducati .. Mathieu do you live in Qc ? Looks very familiar .. Merci Howard
My dad accepted to do a test ride with my mom on the 400, then in the same week he sold his St1300 to buy a Burgman 650 that he will have tomorrow, i had the chance to try it and i'm very unsure whether or not i make the switch, i really liked how the engine feeled
@@MathieuTechMoto Oh wow now your Dad is gay too! In my very humble opinion, if you're happy with the 400, I'd stick with it. I haven't ridden one besides my 650 and I love it. Happy and safe scootering, thanks again for the video.
Merci beaucoup pour cette vidéo ! t'es passé à l'action alors que je suis toujours en reflexion lol ! cela dit, je voudrais tester le 650 aussi... have fun !
I think it has about 52 000km, i have sanded the clutch pads and other clutch parts because they were beginning to glaze and make noise on takeoff@@keith4usa1
Hi, i have had a 400 (£1500) and a 650 burgman, (£6000)i regret spending 4 times the price and should have kept the 400. Cheaper to run and as much fun. I know have a piaggio x10 350. And a yamaha xjr 1300. I always use the piaggio. Love it.
Very good and funny. I laughed out loud at the 'gay' bit at the end! My only concern is if the 400 will be too small for me...I am 6ft 3 with long legs..

Epic review. I'm looking to buy a 2007 Burgman right now. Believe it or not my main concern is my #quadlock. How did you mount your phone front & center like that? Looks great.
@passtheparcel2024 7 minutes ago (edited) I had an Adiva, only 125 cc. Then a Suzuki AN 400 Burgman, a Piaggio X9 500 then finally a Suzuki AN250 Burgman. I had top boxes on all of them. So yeh I needed a maxi scooter. I test rode a Piaggio MP3 250, a Piaggio X8 400 an a Suzuki AN 650 Burgman . Loved em. I'm driving cars now. My latest is a Mk5 Town an Country...
I use a burgman 125cc from 2007, il think the main problèmes with burgmans is the low ground clearance. You experience it specially on bad roads or speed bumps or when you cary a passenger, the chassis may touche the ground sometimes. It’s really annoying
Hello,Mathieu! I need your feedback. You have last motorcycle experience. What you think about small burgman 13/14" wheels vs big 17" wheels at bad asphalt?
I changed my Corolla for a Smart Fortwo, the sell my motorcycle to buy a scooter and on top on that i ride electric unicycles, no wonder :) For reference, he's the type who drive's a big pick-up truck
Hello, great video! Quick question, what’s the 0-60mph or 0-100km timed speed. I’m looking for something super quick to merge into heavy American traffic when merging into highway/freeway. Thank u and have a great day! 👍🏽👍🏽
How come in western countries the burgman series are as you say affordable and easy to maintain, while in the Philippines, even a burgman 125 alone is a sure fire away to get each Filipino bankrupt?
Tellement vrai, je viens de m'acheter un Honda Forza 300 de 2014 comme premier scooter après 20 ans de moto. C'est fun de retrouver un peu le feeling des premiers 2 roues de notre jeunesse.
Hi, Mathieu! I live in the Vaudreuil-Dorion area and there are a LOT of 2-wheel and 3-wheel fans out here. I see motorcycles, scooters and Spyder/Rykers all over the place. I'm looking at either getting a Burgman 650 or a Kawasaki T-Max. They're stylish and fuel-efficient. I work in Lachine so this would be the perfect way to commute along Hwy 20 during the Spring/Summer/Fall. I'm looking at a maxi scooter because I have problems shifting with my left foot due to a foot injury. I also found out that since I need a class 6A licence to ride a 650cc scooter, I can also use a 650cc scooter to take my 6A licence test from the driving school and the SAAQ. Thanks for your very informative video. Nice to see RU-vid channels from fellow Quebecers! Merci encore et bonne journee!!
Oh yeah, injuries sucks but a least you can ride a very comfortable Burgman, i try to take trains as much as possible especially when going in Montreal :)
I own a 400 cc and I love it. But the 650 is a different story. Now I am an old man so the 650 is too heavy for me. But the 650 spoiled me. Nothing compares with the Big Burg...😢
Very interesting! May i ask where you bought the phone holder? J'ai reçu un Burgman limited 2015 pour ma 60ieme fête, ma rêve depuis plus que 50 ans. Il manque seulement le permis de conduire!
Not enough storage space for travel! I have around 120 Liters of storage space on my simple motorcylce (two sidebags of 35 L each and a topcase of 47 L). The burgmann storage is only a third of this I reckon. And I can easily add a tankbag with additional more than 20 L and two small 8L bags at the engine protection bars. Sums up to 153 Liters !!! So that box (storage) is definitely NOT checked for me. 👎
Hello, i know it is not a proper place to ask, but my 06 400s can't rev over 4000rpm, I usually rides 50mph, i know i ride slow but it is like, it limits to 4000 rpm whatever i heavy load it up hill or do a launch..it is my first ever bike and i have no idea if it is normal bcoz i am light and slow, or its in limp mode or intake plate not turning....would like to hear from anyone, thx
@@laiericsson7148 it could be a lot of things, but its only rpm related i would check the cvt weights assuming that its like that since you got the bike, make sure that you use 1/2 to full throttle on takeoffs
@@laiericsson7148 The heavier the CVT weights, the slower rpm and more sluggish take offs will be, usually people like 17-21g weights, but it's only a theory, i can't diagnose a motorcycle by internet
This type of scooter is a grown cycle,, real scooters can't be on hi speed roads,, eny scooter that can be on hi speed roads or I70 type roads is a m-cycle
How come in the Philippines everything is overpriced and under quality? You cant even fit 1 full face helmet on a burgman 400? The first world countries get the best and we get rejects?
