Nice pick up Weekly, that was a smart move in my opinion! I use the bullion wand to test all my 5+ oz bars and coins because it's meant to penetrate deeper in the sample. The Sigma does have issues when testing high relief or toned samples, just a heads up. Also, the machine has the option to test 90% silver but its pointless becsuse even clad coins pass the test and thats because 90% silver coins and clad both have similar resistivities. I actually just uploaded a video on this topic, haven't heard anyone talk about this issue, so i figured it would be a good idea.

Hey, S.G.T. I saw your video, and it was awesome. Thanks for pointing out the limitations on the 90% Silver. Right now, I'm just systematically back-testing everything in my stack to make sure I don't have any less-than-pure samples. I'll link to your video, here! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-G5HdJ29tUFs.html

Sometimes a raised edge will throw the machine off a bit. I think thats why its changing a bit. Like you said as long as its within the bracket 99% of the time its real. Only exception is for pre-33. Had it test as real but it was a recast coin made from an old worn down pre-33 coin. I've had a Sigma for a couple of years and it's paid for itself.

Thanks for the information, StackThatGold. Yes, I think raised edge was throwing it off just a bit. But I should weight the bar for complete testing as well.

Hi Weekly, according to my sources, all RCM 10oz bars were made with serial numbers, but some may have slipped through without. This would make your bar quite rare.

I use the Sigma first, then weigh it, check dimensions, do a magnetic slide test, and check it’s specific gravity. Many bars do not have serial numbers even though there is a spot for them.

I have this machine and the 3 wands that come with it. The sensor on top is for coins only. The wands are for bars and unique sized coins like 1/10 ozT in size. Do not use the wands to test anything whilst positioning the object you are testing on top of the machine sensor. Test that bar (or anything) on a flat surface like a table when using any wand. Good video.
@JRJStacks
@JRJStacks Год назад
Thanks for that information. What are the 2 other wands used for?
@johnyaniuk1254
@johnyaniuk1254 Год назад
@@JRJStacks 3 wands. For whatever size of bullion bar is being tested. Or coin. But because I was testing a 1/10th OzT PLATINUM Britannia and I wasn't having success getting an accurate reading or any reading whatsoever on the coin sensor of the tester, I switched to the smallest wand. The sensor tip accommodated the tiny coin in its entirety in diameter. The other 2 sensor wands are medium and large. Google it. All 3 wands are primarily for bullion bars whether they are 1 gram gold, silver or platinum up to a 100 OzT bar of the same metals. Ideally the best sensor for coins is the top main sensor. It seems most accurate with Coins above 1/10th OzT.

Don't take this the wrong way... I don't own anything, so I can't evaluate anything I have... but the machine you have reads only the surface... so that bar may yet be fake, and just encased in silver. You need to weigh it carefully, and then measure it carefully... based on the metal, and the thickness the length and width can be easily calculated (in fact your machine will do that for you)... so you can actually determine if it's silver all the way thru. just laying on the sensor is not enough... you have to measure it to be sure.

@@tjf1531 You are simply incorrect... clearly you have not done your homework... but do as you wish with your money, both fake, and real. From Sigma: ATTENTION The PMV Original is not an all-in-one testing device. It is critically important to test the density of your samples in addition to testing the resistivity. The PMV Original only tests the resistivity of the sample. A sample can only be considered genuine if both the resistivity and density are correct. The PMV PRO series does test both density and resistivity, but when testing with the PMV Original, the user must test density separately on their own.
