I bought an abandoned storage unit for $70... What's inside?? Part 1 of 2. Follow me on Instagram @paperandmoose Shop on Etsy at www.etsy.com/s... #storagewars #auctionfinds #trashtotreasure
Following you and watching you unpack everything is like a tawdry version of Christmas ...in a good way. It's also like peeking in the neighbor's medicine cabinet when you go over of happy hour. I love it!
All those Wi games and you get excited over a Disney controller! I know nothing about these things but your excitement made me chuckle. Keep doing what you do. Your personality and sincerity have us all returning for more.
The spongebob controller is a plug n play game, you just plug it into a tv and start playing the game that’s loaded in the controller. Being sold on EBay for 20 bucks with free shipping
Go through them first. Cash may be in them or unspent money orders, etc. Some of the "paper" maybe good for junk journaling. Along with other junk papers as efemora (sp?).
Aunt Suga also looks like an uncashed money order and more stamps in the personal items. Always check when emptying an elderly persons house, usually a ton of stamps. C it all the time at the post office.
Play your cards right and market those games on the right platform - a.k.a. eBay - and you'll get your $70 back, and then some! Then take the housewares and misc. stuff to the flea market to sell for icing on the cake.
Okay, for all the people lamenting over these storage units and even estate sales. First, a reminder: if YOU have a storage locker, is this stuff truly valuable to you? Do you regularly use it like it was intended? I mean, if you have a too tiny apartment, you should either limit the stuff you own, or you should be trading stuff out. For example, bringing your summer stuff (lawn chairs, even your summer clothes) to your unit and then pulling out your Fall/Christmas items, including heavy winter clothing. In reality folks get storage bins and then NEVER come back. Or when they do, they stash more junk in and don’t take anything back out. If you find it sad that the heirs to an estate don’t WANT mama’s junk, why do you feel so bad? If they can’t appreciate her vintage and antique items, then, it should be acquired by people that do. If YOU want your stuff to go to a certain person, then damn it do NOT put it in storage, give it to that person before you’re gone! That way you know it goes to the right person. And guess what, a lot of the stuff in storage is part of a hoard. The relatives just want it gone. They dealt with it enough when dear ol’ mom was alive. Do I sound harsh? Well, I never got as bad as those people on the hoarding shows, but I did keep a whole lot of crap. I’m talking garages full. When I moved 6 years ago, I had a place with 3 RV garage slots. I carefully stored it in 1.5 of those garages. And then I NEVER looked at that stuff again. There was good stuff in there too. By my next move the majority had been ruined by mice. My house had another bunch of crap. Some of it valuable, some of it duplicates (because I could NEVER find the stuff I’d already bought). I spent the better part of two years breaking my habit. It was awful. I even got the shakes more than once. (I was remodeling my house & so, I kept plugging away at my crap until I bought a different house and decided once and for all to get rid of at least 25% and eventually I actually parted with 50-60% of it. I HAD to have friend help because if I wavered for even a second, I kept it.) I am moving again to my last house where I’m retiring. That house is 600 sqft smaller than the home I just sold). I’m planning to put only a skeleton of home items into my house. The rest will stay in the garage for me to sell, donate, or give to family/friends. If you don’t want YOUR STUFF to become so much flotsam and jetsam, then get rid of, donate or GIVE to the people you know would want it NOW. Like my daughter said to me, “Mom, are you really trying to guilt trip me into keeping things I have no use for?” It was true, I was. Why should she have the SAME junk I had and didn’t appreciate? If they don’t use antiques and vintage things give it to your friends that do, or donate it to the charities that rely on reselling donations! Then, you won’t end up having someone like Rene or Taco going through your stuff and having others say, “this is so sad.” Rene’s previous video was sad because we don’t know why that lady abandoned her stuff. But many many of these units are just stuff from previous lives, or, someday I’ll comeback or just not needed but the person didn’t have the wherewithal to get rid of their “STUFF.” Sorry I got on my soapbox here. Truly I am. But I don’t think all of these bins are as sad as they’re made out to be. If you have a storage bin, make sure it’s for a good reason rather than you just didn’t have the courage to give it away, sell, or decide if a friend or relative should have it.
Storage units are somewhat like a cousin to estate sales. We don't know the full details behind each and why family/friends/distant relatives didn't step in to either take the items before an estate sale or offer financial assistance in order for someone to keep the items stored away. One can never know... now, one can Google to their heart's content the names associated with a storage unit or an estate sale, but one will never know the full story. It's just a way to keep the items moving along and not having dumpsters fill up with things that are perfectly useable..
@@PaperandMoose The good thing Renee is that the stuff in the storage may not all be ' valuable ' or even worth the time to take to a flea market to sell for .50, but many items are usable. The Unit I bought a week ago... They did store some trash, a LOT of it. (I filled my 5x8 trailer with a full load to the dump ) But the usable stuff that someone could use.... I put at the curb by my house. Had about 8 boxes, kids toys, kitchen stuff, clothes etc with a sign " Storage Locker cleanout-Free stuff " A few items got picked the first two days then I went to work 3rd day. EVERYTHING was gone, somebody took it all. Somebody will use the stuff and it won't be in the landfill. I did my part. * It was a LOT of work to sort thru the trash though.
I was kicked out of a place and I had to put most of it in storage and throw out a lot I ended up losing the storage I couldn't pay for it I am in a better spot now and I had to clean out my aunt's house omg she has a lot of stuff it took me and my family 5 months to clean it out
Leslie Johnson Hi Leslie! A lot of good advice there. My kids don’t want much of my vintage and my mom’s so I plan a vintage yard sale next spring pandemic permitting. I am not sure where my vintage destination will be but wherever I will probably hit thrift shops there!
You just make me laugh when you find a nice surprise ,I would say that you dear lady have made a nice profit. But please do check these out you may be better of selling some on ebay for the best prices. This is a good storage locker. Can't wait for the rest of the treasures.please don't price things to cheap. Until next time. Again the look on your face is priceless.
Seriously, you are beautiful, respectful, intelligent and magnetic...TLC and all other channels need to snap you up with an incredible offer.....Renee, you are first class!!! I don't know you personally, but watch every video you make. You are truly special. Considering what our country and globe is going through at this 2020 year.....any producer or network is highly mistaken not snatching you up immediately. I have sent multiple messages to those I know in the industry....Renee, thank you for ALWAYS being kind and classy in every video you offer all us. You set the bar quite high !!!!
I knew after your 1st storage locker you would be hooked!!!! You got some nice items. And the bags that had what you said was personal papers, go through them one at a time, you never know what might be in there. The boxes that were stacked in the front, IF one had to have water damage, it was good that the bottom box had only glassware. i MOST always think that Bath Balms stink, the card on the top may have been nothing, but it could have been a card with money, you never know. The expression on your face when you find something neat is so CUTE!!!
Not only do the bath bombs stink, that is chemicals that would absorb into your skin. Best thing to use is Epsom salts because they have magnesium and are relaxing to sore muscles AND we are lacking usually in magnesium!
That Tool Box with ALL of those tools alone is worth SOME MONEY!!!! Believe me, I have brothers and a husband that uses the BITS on their Drills, and they are NOT CHEAP!!!!
Woohoo your expanding big time. Takes slot to branch out but hey, thats a good thing.. plus your learning as you go.. more moola to get more paper goodies. Way to go Renee.
Thanks for understanding Rae! While I of course love vintage, you never know what might be in a storage unit. It's not an estate sale or an auction, but it is something different and perhaps one day I'll find a unit filled with vintage postcards and paper!
@@PaperandMoose , At my flea market, the tool box and if you leave the tools in it and sell as a lot.... should easily make you $30. Tools were in good shape. Pure profit because all those Wii and video games already paid for the unit. "You never KNOW what you are going to find "
Hi Renee, Nice finds; you’ve gotta go through “everything;” you never know where the valuables were stashed away. Can always take back unopened package (e.g. locks) to the store. Stay well and be safe. Best, Brian
I kept saying to open the box right in front of you, then part 2 announcement and my heart sunk...it was a cliff hanger like end of season tv shows. Curious to see what you find.
Susie Jakes, RU-vid disagrees. They give reports to every RU-vid channel owner. The reports shows them when they lose viewers. Usually by 30 minutes there’s a huge drop off because viewers don’t have time to watch. If you notice, Taco is super fast. Rene just isn’t that kind of person. She’s methodical to Taco’s sprint to treasures on the roadside, in loading & unloading. Taco does nothing slow. - or even regular time. Lol. Finally, I can’t imagine Rene even *thinking,* “Hmm I’m going to split this video into two because I KNOW this’ll piss my viewers off.” Lol. She has a channel that she’s dedicated to. She respects us and she also must manage her channel. If that pisses you off, I’m sure Taco will be glad to have you exclusively. But I assure you Rene isn’t spending any negative energy on any of us.
That is a Nintendo Switch Charger for the system, the spongebob control is actually a plug in game that has games stored in the controller ($5 at Walmart)
Renee..you are so lucky!!! What great finds. I was on the edge of my seat with each box you opened and cheering you on!!!!Thanks for bringing us along on your journey. So looking forward to tomorrow!🐈
I know some people are "upset" that I split the storage unit into two videos, but I thought with the detail that I went through each item, I didn't want to have a 45 minute video so thought two videos would be best!
If you taken a magnet with you, it’s a great way to tell precious metal from pot metal. Precious metal is not magnetic. My father taught me that years ago.
Part 1 ended too soon!! Can't wait for the rest. It's always an adventure in your search for all that you hold dear. Feel like I'm standing behind you just as eager to see what is uncovered next. Your joy is so contagious! Love watching your videos! Thnx for sharing as always!
Awesome locker! Good job. My son loved the super smash bro game. You could probably get more than a $1. on the sealed movies. Thanks for sharing. :) Also I have been looking for Mario Party that one is rare and usually expensive.
I almost cried when you pulled out the Saturday night Fever video. I've been looking for that movie for quite awhile. Looks like you got a really good unit.
The bar items should sell. They just said on the news drinking was up a bit, but they hoped it would go back down after the virus. Good locker. Good size, organized, and clean. Well done.
I'm so proud of you. Can't believe it's been a year & look at all the different things you've done! You can see it on your face how happy it makes you. Full steam ahead! 🍁🎃👻👍
Congratulations on your unit! 🎉🎉There have been some amazing finds, a Wii plus a lot of games, lots of DVDs....can't wait until part 2!!!!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻😊💕💜💕💜💕🇩🇰
@@PaperandMoose Just like you said about the W-D 40.. I'll use that. I didn't have or buy a loop but I did find a round optical magnifier (like a loop) in one of my storage units. Not everything is BIG money... but you do SAVE a lot of money not having to buy things and supplies.
Check those cards.....I watched a vid a couple of weeks ago for Locker Nuts, and he found 300 dollars in cards and 150 in gift cards.....Keeping my fingers crossed you come across some
I know nothing of gaming but your subscribers do and they are happy for you!!!!! Thanks subscribers!!!!! Yay Renee!!!! You don't seem to enjoy the storage locker thing, please do what you enjoy. Thanks for sharing your adventures.
I like the storage lockers, obviously not as much as finding ephemera or vintage holiday decor though. I think that when I am going through items that I do not know much about, my enthusiasm is overtaken by my brain wondering what something is/what the value is versus thinking "Oh my goodness, this vintage Christmas card has the cutest snowmen I have ever seen!" Eventually, at some point, I'm sure I'll run across a storage unit with some vintage and I'll be doing my "Oh my goodness!" mantra haha.
Nintendo switch thing you found is the docking station and/charging station and Docking Station 2 plug the switch into the TV to get picture on the TV that's what that's for if nobody told you in the comments
