I have always wanted to own a tractor. I purchased a 1981 International 4786 4wd. In this video you can climb in the cab of this 350 hp V-8 engine tractor and see it work as well as watch and hear it work in the field.
The video covers the specifications and functions of the International 4786.

Isn:t it ironic to call it "ÿour new tractor" :) That 4786 was the biggest international the time i was in agriculture in the late 70-s. Our biggest was the 1246, 125 hp, which was a realy big thing in that time in this area. (Netherlands) Most seen was the 846 with 80 hp and the 624, 60 hp. The smaller one"s 423, 40 hp you still see on diary farms. Perhaps that was a strong serie.

Beswick Farms Ltd bought me a 4786 at the end of production and a Co-op 808 deep tiller. It was 59 feet and I added 1 more shank on each end for 61 of 14 inch sweeps so I could till 60 feet per pass before GPS. I built a rear hitch on it that I used to pull a large NH3 tank in fall with 4 inch beavertails. I used that same hitch to pull a 67 foot Herman harrow when I prepped seedbed in spring with the 14 inch sweeps. Yes I was proud of my ability to fine tune guage wheels and machine leveling to prep a firm moist seedbed with a deep tiller. I left the harrows wider than the tiller so it would give full coverage when cornering. I rubbed a few fence posts with end of harrow. The tractor was putting out more than 350 and handled this outfit easily where the foothills of the Canadian Rockies meet the Milk River ridge a couple of miles north of Montana. I am not saying that you would want to load yours like that but I put 2900 hours on with no repairs. I did put rubber blocks on the stops for the rolling drawer and kept my radiator clean and serviced it on a tight schedule. Have a 4366 and 4586 now. A 4786 would be welcome. Congratulations on yours.

I spent many, many hours in the 4786, in '70-80, as a high school aged farmhand, in Michigan. I felt like the king of the world, in that machine! Thank you for posting the vlog! It brought back some great memories!

yea I drove that exact tractor in 80-83.....many 16 hour days....in Iowa ....on my Fathers 3000 acre farm....yea Felt like King of the World for about 2-3 hours then I felt like a Slave to the Grind....thank God for Great Rock n Roll Stations with Real Music...and listing to Paul Harvey that was Real NEWS...then Reagan embargoed the Russians and the price of Grain fell...but I feel it did help to bring down the Berlin Wall...American Famers suffered but .. that if that is what it took to help bring down the Berlin Wall it was Worth it///Moved to California in 84 San Diego and NEVER WENT BACK ...but yea Driving that Tractor still Haunts me ...like Turning over Virgin Land with a Miller offset disk bouncing my ASS OFF ...Smelling the Fresh Earth and watching ALL the Creature RUN FOR THEIR LIVES!

I'm happy for you. You can hear in your voice and see in your face your happiness. You can't remember my comments our where I'm from but you might have noted I'm partial to IHC and Gleaner combines. You don't have to be a farmer to have the passion. The non farmers often show 10 times more heart in farm equipment. In closing you made an excellent choice , I know your tractor well. It was famous in her day and still a strong machine today.

My 3 year old boy is obsessed with farm and construction equipment. We usually watch your channel a couple times a week. He loves seeing the tractors and equipment in action and enjoy the commentary on the history and specifications of the machines. Keep up the good work. On a side note, I can only imagine the conversation with that farmer: "So you have a tractor and no land to use it on? You want to disc up my field, using your tractor at no cost to me? Well, I'm sure we can work something out..." Lol

This is awesome. I'm itching to get back into the field so this was a good fix. It's amazing to see how much shatter loss/what got pushed through the combine via the volunteer corn. We don't get to see our volunteer corn growing in the fall in Iowa. Makes me think a little more. Congratulations on the big boy purchase.

Corn is harvested here in August so volunteer corn is in every field no matter the brand. In a warm fall some of the volunteer corn will get all the way to the tassel stage before a frost.

The 45 and 4786 with IH V800 engines were great tractors. We had multiple units when I was a boy matter of fact it is what I learned on. I used to plow many acres as a boy. The V800 was actually a truck motor and got a bad rep of failure which was due to too high rpm. Later they were governed down which took care of problem. Actually we ran them at 2200 rpm and never had a failure. But an awesome tractor!
@jamesbarbour8400
@jamesbarbour8400 10 месяцев назад
An unfortunate and inherent characteristic of V8 engines, regardless of Brand name, is they have very little in the way of torque back up and the only way to get any kind of decent performance out of them, is to rev them in the higher speed range. Two more cylinders than a straight six and higher rpms equals more fuel useage per hour. This coupled with the low torque is what led most manufacturers to install straight sixes over V8s. From a purely aesthetic and sound point of view however, a V8 engined tractor is hard to beat. Glad to hear that your tractor hasn't had any engine issues - they're a great looking machine with the V8 fitted. Also great that people like yourself have the foresight to keep these legends in running order and not simply scrap them. While todays artics may be way more powerful and sophisticated, these old school machines have much more character than the new ones will ever have. They just do what it says on the tin ! 👍

I was working for a neighbor in the 70’ s and in 1979 my boss had two 4568’s that he traded for a new 4786 that was the most powerful tractor I had ever driven and it became my favorite ever He also bought a 800 series IH 10 bottom 18” plow We plowed 12” s deep at 5 1/2”-6 mph and we could plow six acres per hour whether we were in a 30 acre field or a 160 acre field that was always amazing to me Your tractor looks like a great purchase and I hope you enjoy driving it as much as I did back in 1979 congratulations

I grew up on a farm in the 50s and we left in 1964. I remember the time when all the different farm tractors were the order of the day. I always thought the Olivers with their hood sides were the coolest looking and liked the Farmall 400 and 450s but I grew up on WD45 and D17 gas tractors. Haven't driven a farm tractor newer than a 1962 or so model and I am sure I would have a hard time trying to figure out how to even start a new tractor. Thanks for the videos, especially the videos of the older tractors and the specifications.

As an ex ag contractor, I'd like to give you a tip or 3. First up, when you start the engine, give it a minute at idle to get oil pressure up & oil circulating, before you rev it up, longer time in cold conditions, got to remember hydraulic pumps are running as soon as you start. Second, gear up-revs down, make the engine work in its high torque range, not revving the 'tits' off of it, it'll thank you for it, by longer eng life, less fuel used, etc. Third, start the tractor rolling, clutch all the way up, before you engage your implement with the ground. The clutch will live a lot longer. Pull/raise the implement out of the ground before you stop. I tell you these things so you don't reduce it's life, operating errors eventually cost money. You got a good buy there, a classic, keep it nice, regular maintenance, fix issues while they are small issues, before they become big major ones, you'll save a lot of coin that way. I congratulate you on your purchase & I hope it serves you well & I'm sure you are going to enjoy every moment with it. I actually have an old IH 412B elevating scraper that I'm 'doing up', so Yeh, I like the old inter's as well.

What a sight it is to see a happy man doing what he loves doing. I'm not a farmer either, sadly, but have farming in my blood sort of. I really love it and youtube channels like your makes my day a lot brighter. You're making an awsome work spreading these really splendid videos out on the internet for everyone to like. I used to go out on my bicycle as a teenager as soon as I noticed farmers around were out doing something and I could be standing there for hours. Eventually I was alllowed to ride along in the cab and later on that was the how I got to help out a little bit at least on a couple of local farms. Nowadays, when I'm over 50 years old I'm still that boy that just loves it, love learning how to farm and gets excited over stuff that the friends I had in school that grew up on farms, never really could understand. I know my grandparents had a small farm and maybe that's why I love all of it. Keep doing what your're doing because you do make a whole lot of difference for people like me. My best wishes for you and that lovely tractor.

My neighbor growing up in the 80 was a big crop farmer and had a large dairy herd too and they were die hard IH people. They had one like that, not sure but I think it was a 4586. I remember they had a big ass V-plow for it and used to hire out to the township after the really big snows. It was exciting to see in action busting thru the big drifts. They had a big wing disk and a moldboard plow also , forget how many bottoms. Also had a 5488,5088, two 1586's,1486, and a fleet of 66 and older series tractors. They were big time at least for around here in the East. Congratulations on your tractor! Brought back good memories for me.

Great to see you saved a IH V8 tractor as they are growing more rare to see since most have tossed the V8 for a inline repower from what guys tell me the V8 IH engine is worth big $$$ now

Thank you for sharing your story- I was just like you when I was a kid. The land around my house is farmed, and I could here the Cummins from the neighbors Case IH 5130 coming down the road. I always would watch them go by or work in the field. I am lucky to be able to do some farming now as an adult, and own two 5140's. Awesome tractor, congrats!!!

BTP, what a wonderful story. I could see you making some sort deal with a older or retiring farmer trading some tractor hours or help for rent of some ground maybe use of a disk and seeder. Just start with a small amount of land so any mistakes don’t cost to much and try growing a crop. No feeling like it when you take off a crop you grew.

That would be a great opportunity. Hopefully some day I can raise a crop on a few acres.

@@bigtractorpower something you could also consider is asking some of the farms you work with for filming if they'd like your help with some work in the spring. That 4786 is plenty big enough to pull a lot of tillage implements and I imagine some of them would be more than happy to have another tractor on the go on their farm, even if only for a few days, when they're really in the thick of planting season

Look for an ih 800 9-12bottom plow, model14 v-ripper on a 6500cart, 6500 chisel plow or a 4500 fieldcultivator these were all era implements we used on our 68 and 86 series 4x4's

The smile on your face is priceless, like a kid in a candy store running that old girl. That’s a lot of tractor and very cool to see that it hasn’t been repowered. There was one on my local Craigslist for a while with an 855 Cummins in it. I’m looking forward to seeing more videos in the future.

Congratulations, Jason, on reaching as many subscribers as you have. It's nice to *finally* see you on your own videos. (I remember you from the How Farms Work Farm Day last year, and I share your penchant for staying out of the camera lens as much as possible.) It's been quite the ambitious effort you've put forward to get to where you are, and since you've been working on it as long as you have, it's necessarily a labor of love. I'm very close to you in age, circumstance, and interest, even if we're separated by a lot of geography. What you do in these videos helps to satisfy the vicarious farmer in a lot of us who would otherwise have no exposure to these machines or processes. The tractor you bought will certainly make you happy. Thanks for the effort throughout the years to show your perspective to so many of us.

First of all congratulations on your tractor purchase! Growing up I too loved seeing tractors of all makes, especially IH! Really like the deep growl of those IH V800 engines. As for equipment to pull with it I would think a 32' disk, 35-40' field cultivator, 5 shank ripper or a 13-15 shank soil saver with 4" twisted shanks would be a good match. Just remember keep the oil changed, air filter cleaned and was always told to back the rpm's back a couple hundred on those motors instead of running wide open. Looking forward to seeing more videos!! Thank you for sharing

A face to go with the voice! Fantastic! I'm starting the process of looking for the John Deere 4040 that was my Dad's, that unfortunately and despite my protesting that we keep it was sold after his passing when I was 11. For whatever reason, I remember riding around with him in that more then the others he had. I'm debating writing a book about all of this.
