Lol what I hate about this commentary is that if you're struggling financially you shouldn't even be looking at buying high-end headphones, let a lone complaining that they're expensive. You can literally go to the dollar store and get basic headphones. My point is, there's cheap options for everything in this world, we shouldn't get mad at a company for making better products and charging for it.

They're really not overpriced, and a lot of the time they are the best among competitors in the space they're aiming for. To my ears these 3rd Gen Air pods are more comfortable compared to the newer Pro version with the soft gel tips. ru-vid.comUgkxgl8SzyQoymMu-S3V55Dskg5QJ8xr1yCR That said, compared to the 3rd Gen, I notice these do not stay planted in the ear as well. One design issue I think, is you squeeze the stem and click it twice to advance your songs. On 3rd gen you tap the large speaker. The difference is by grabbing the stem each time, you tend to loosen the bud fit in your ear. Not always, but the bud falls out a few times while running. The old tap to change never had that problem for me. I would not have changed that tap function. That said, the newer Pro version sticks in the ear, almost airtight if you want that. I do not like that Airtight fit. So that's why I'd stay with this version as the best trade off of comfort, use, and overall feel.

Some tiny clarifications, when you take it off, it does go into a low power mode. It goes into further low power after 2 hours, and there is a way to do a wired connection. They sell an overpriced lightening to aux cable.

On iOS in accessibility you can apply "headphone accomodations" which functionally are like a basic EQ. if you get an app that makes an audiogram in the healthkit system you can use that audiogram to correct the audio like a hearing aid, which is effectively seperate EQ for each ear, and you can also turn on transparency mode accomodations which gives you the ability to adjust the bass/trebel, balance, and volume of the passthrough audio if they're anything like airpods pro on iOS

@@maxcostco Nah tell me that you're joking/ fanboying. These have higher noise floor/ hiss because of anc which is enemy of fidelity. A $150 bayerdynamic headphones with a DAC can easily destroy these in terms of sound quality, fidelity and also in comfort. And you really don't understand things if you underestimate bitrat because there is not enough information in lower bitrate source. And if you want to talk about tonality and timbre, this are not a neutral headphone. It is coloured af

Not really, it’s not like you could hook it up to a giant amp and the headphones are just going to take in the signal and play it passively, it’ll convert whatever you give it into a digital signal, since the lightning port is a digital port, and then you’ll get a re-creation of that analog audio digitally

So, you can use the lighting to 3.5mm to bypass the BT and use an amp. You’ll want to set the headphones to Max volume and let your amp sit in mid power to avoid using high power mode. BUT this improves dynamics and bitrate

You can actually get a lightning to headphone jack cable on the Apple store to use the headphones wired. This reduces latency, but they still need to be charged to work.

Still, you cannot "drive" them with an external dac/amp, which was his point (the cable does ADC and then the headphones work with their own dac/amp as usual, the only thing you bypass is the BT module, or the way you feed the digital signal)

@@DavidFregoli No that wasn't Linus' point. He explicitly said he thought that Bluetooth was the only way to drive the headphones which is wrong. Funny how Linus spends so much time getting every detail of every little random thing right but can't be bothered to do 5 minutes of research on an Apple product. He knows the average viewer of his channel likes when he rips on Apple products so it's OK.

That is true and it solves some of the situations, but I think the issue with this is that it will still use the headphone’s dac and amp, do you can’t use your expensive and better quality ones.

I want to use mine with midi piano and need the low latency/cable connection. I don't mind the internal dac/amp as it's likely quite nice if it's Apple.

@@zakblue yup, I use my headphones for the same thing, I use both with a audio interface and directly from my digital piano. Still the point that being able to bypass the internal dac still stands, specially for hi-fi audio

You know what else is environmental friendly? Not putting the paper in there in the first place and wasting less paper cutting out the spot to let the inserts fit. More people tend to save the whole box, but throw away the inserts so now they've created more waste. Yay Apple!

@@NoThrottle First, it still takes water and energy to make that recycled paper, so if it’s a pointless use of paper you *are* still wasting resources on it. Second, recycling isn’t magic: The fibers in paper can only be reprocessed so many times. The more it’s reprocessed, the shorter the fibers get and mean that it can only be used for lesser and lesser grades of paper products. In other words, it’s not just water and energy you’re wasting, you’re also wasting raw materials that could have been put to better use.

@@sys-administrator you're so wrong... the entire point of wired is to directly connect the drivers to a high-powered DAC. Using lightning would go from analog, to digital and back to analog (all drivers are analog in the end) it's pointless if it's not a direct connection from. The DAC to the drivers.
