This is the 4th video in the series on this cabin. Found out the cabin needs more work than I thought, thats pretty typical on a job like this.

Hey man. Musician and instrument lover here, I’ve seen that piano in a few of your videos and I beg you not to throw it away. It’s probably over a hundred years old, just like the house, which makes it very valuable as an antique. It’s in very bad condition but I’m certain that there are piano technicians wherever you are, who are willing to restore it. Please send it to a piano service for the sake of preserving a piece of music history.

OMG THE HAPPY PUPPY!! 8) OMG THERE'S TWO PUPPIES!!! 9) *random screaming in the background* 10) *up, no down, no up, no back down, measure, down, back up, back down, measure a couple more times, back up, back down* 11) "I've got you in my crosshairs." -- "I've got a chainsaw." 12) Pivot. Pivot. PIVOT! 13) More stairs phobia activation. Now with ptophobia! *Bet everyone who reads this has to look that up.* 14) Getting wood stuck, but not like that. 15) GIVE MAX A COOKIE, YOU MONSTER!! 16) Floor needs an inspection. -- "Yep, that's a floor." 17) Raised the ceiling vs RAISE DA ROOF! 18) "I want to carefully take these brackets off." *Uses the shovel of the backhoe to rip it off* 19) *Every person over the age 0f 25 starts having flashbacks to Final Destination 2* 20) Honestly, the most wholesome reasoning for cleaning up after yourself. It is easy to criticize someone on the internet. The strange part about that is that those criticizing someone took the time to record, document and then share it to the world, they would likely become the criticized for one reason or another. After having done a few rehabs myself, I probably would have done a couple things differently than you have chosen. But at the end of the day, I am also learning things from you that I could potentially apply the next time I have a rehab project. The nail will give allowing the house to move where the screw will snap when the house moves over time. soooo, that's why you want to use nails and not screws. I'm not here to tell you what to do. I'm here to enjoy the video. looks good man. you mentioned earlier in the video that new houses are falling apart more than older homes. this may be a big reason to why. also material just isn't what it used to be. many factors come into play when comparing old to new.

Hope your dog didn't step on anything sharp. Just saw you had an old piano. Inside them is the soundboard, usually made of iron, looks kind of like a harp. They can have casting info, like location and date - pretty cool looking. I've seen people make tables, yard are, etc. Just in case you want to get up to 100 projects..

The thing that amuses me most about your work relationship is you two are in sync after (I'm sure) many discussions about how this is going to be done and NO arguments (at least not on screen) and still you have fun together and can laugh. Keep on keeping your sense of humor & stay warm. I am looking forward to the finish and the "surprise" you plan with the old floorboards.

Would maybe be good to put a trap door into that little stone box. Could use it as a cellar or storage area! Saw someone else mention this but figured I should also repeat it to up its likelihood of being seen: if you still have any of the rough cut wooden structural beams that aren’t rotten, keep them. You will need them for framing windows and such.

I'm really enjoying watching the way you're repairing and remodeling while trying to keep what you can. You're absolutely right about homes being built to save on cost rather than being built to last. Lumber alone isn't even grown the way it used to be, so even if boards were cut to the same size, they're just weaker. Keep up the great job, and give Max lots of pets from me and my pack!

Gluing and screwing the floor decking down is way better than just nailing it. Floor will not squeak when walking around the room. Same always need to be done on stair treads material.

LOLOLOL It looks like an archeological dig. hehehehe I hope you put in sinks, tubs, toilets, etc.....that might be period appropriate for when the cabin was built. That'd be soooooo cool! And thank you for making sure Max made an appearance. I look for him in these videos. He's the star of the show. You couldn't get this done without him.

Screws are the best, I'm a contractor and always use screws over nails especially in remodels. Of course people will say nails are faster which they are but not when your remodeling a old building.

Great work. Love that box bay on the second floor and hope you keep it and incorporate it in the design. As a retired custom builder, I always tried to blend the old with the new when doing a rehab. When people see it, they'll feel that connection to history.

Stumbled across your channel and so glad I did! I love all things construction/renovation and restoration. Especially turn of the century homes. I formerly owned a home built in the 1930’s, so I understand the challenges. And yes, they sure were built to last. Great job on the restoration thus far! Can’t wait to see the finished project.

Another great video, guys. I'll be anxiously awaiting the next episode for this lovely abode. You're making your mommas proud. Thank God Max was there to make sure you did everything the right way. hehehehe I also love your philosophy to build for longevity and not based on what's cheapest, because you're right, the original builders built for strength and stability of the home...not how cheaply they could do it for. That's the way they thought back them.....basically, if you have the money to build it twice, you have the money to do it right the first time.....and that's exactly what YOU did. This cabin will probably stand for at least another 100 years. Be proud of yourself. Your honor and integrity are inarguable and there for all to see. Until next time.....see ya 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🔨🔨🔨🔨🔨🔨🔨🔨
