Personally I would've kept the pre facelift head- and taillights. Maybe not as modern looking but it's the OG M5 look 😎

About 6 years ago I came across a very clean 2001 6 cyl 5 Series that had 118K miles on it and had just gone through all the required services as well as a few upgrades in cooling and interior, for a steal. I told the dealer I'd take it and they checked my credit. They called me back to say Exerian reported I was dead! By the time I traced the problem and fixed it the car was sold to someone else.

The 6 cylinder E39s are the unsung heroes of the platform. They’re not fast, but they’re so incredibly smooth yet involving and they’ll cruise at 120 mph all day. Best overall package that BMW has made imo :)

So glad you got another one Brandon, they are very special cars. I bought an 2002 lemans with carmel interior 3 moths ago and i am in the process of refreshing bunch of common things. i didn't get the drive it much, because i want it to look and sound good, that's why always something is taking apart, plus weather here in pa wasn't the greatest so. But i am almost done with it. i love it more and more. Just looking at it everyday alone, makes me happy and i am proud to own one. E39 m5 deserves all the respect and love it gets. it is an handsome car for sure.

So I’m thinking about buying a 2002 M5 asking price is 20k with 165k the Vanos has been rebuilt along with a number of other upgrades over the last two years. Can you give me your thoughts on what the purchase price should be and if it’s worth even doing

Congrats another e39 ///M5 owner. Can’t wait until you get it dialed. Might I recommend the muffler delete. It’s the perfect amount of sound with no drone. Don’t buy a cat back system it’s a waste of money.
