End of the holiday season sales can save you SO MUCH money. Sarah bought every bag of frozen fresh cranberries to make homemade cranberry juice concentrate. It will be shelf-stable for 18 months after she preserves the juice through canning.

***** About Living Traditions Homestead *****
Living Traditions Homestead is all about living a simple and sustainable way of life. We believe the world has gotten too “busy” and that people are missing out on many of the true blessings this world has to offer. We started as a small urban homestead in Gilbert, AZ and after the city grew up around us, decided it was time leave corporate America and take a big leap of faith by moving our family to the Missouri Ozarks.
We put out 5 new videos every week! Tuesday through Saturday. We hope you will become part of our homestead family by subscribing to our channel and watching as we transition from city dwellers to full time homesteaders!

This was the first video I've watched here and what a joy. We are actually cranberry farmers and I can honestly say I've never heard anyone who's not a cranberry farmer talk about cranberries as thoroughly and with as much love as you did here. I make my own juice, too and you're right the color and flavor is phenomenal. Thank you so much for supporting the cranberry industry.

Sarah, I appreciate you and Kevin and the girls more than words can say, but I wanted to try and say how in just a few ways. I grew up on a homestead for a few years and my mother and grandmother both grew up their whole lives on homesteads, so they taught me a lot. Both of them have passed, but you have, unknowingly, picked up the mantel. I am physically disabled, so haven't been doing a lot of the things I used to, but you have inspired me to do some things and to start a small garden again. You've made a difference in my life and I thank you

Sarah, I saw someone use a wooden TV tray, they turned it upside down and used hair ties to hold the four corners to the legs, set a large pot under the cloth and pour in the stuff to drain. I have been using this method since then and I set it on my table and let it drain all night. Works like a charm, I use it for jelly or grape juice.

Another thing to use for UTI or getting sick in general is eating fermented foods such as homemade sauerkraut (fresh not canned). The probiotics in them naturally boost your immune system and within minutes I can feel a difference. If you take a couple of spoonfuls every hour or every few hours you will notice a big difference. If you only have pickle juice you can do the same with that and it also works well. Hopefully this gives you another possibility to help you feel better.

Now I loved this video and idea! Super great idea and HUGE money savings!!! One thing I do to save even more money and time in instaces like this when taking things from the freezer to either cook for a meal or can like this is I take them out of the freezer usually the night before so they have time to naturally get to room temperature then start the cooking process. Doing that saves me time cooking them on the stove and money spent on gas. Also another way to easier ladle things into my jars I use a glass measuring cup with a handle so in one motion I can see that I have enough amount in the measuring cup and there is a pour spout on the cup. Well Sara I am going to make sure I check out the freezer section of the grocery store this weekend to do this! Such a great idea that I have never thought of nor did I even know how to do! Thanks!!!

I do a similar process, not to make juice for drinking but for the first step for making cranberry and port jelly ( in England we use it for an accompaniment to roast poultry eg, chicken, turkey, duck even roast pork) The pulp that’s left is then made into Christmas chutney which is fantastic with cheese or gammon ham (cold cut)

Cherrie Mckinstry No the jelly is a clear deep purple set jelly. I include some freshly pulped and juiced Bramley Apple juice with the sugar in the final jelly process so there’s a lot of pectin - no gelatine is used and there’s a good set. The port is added near the end before putting it in the jars. Unlike the USA, the British jam making process does not include a bottling water bath in the process for jam or jelly making. The chutney recipe I use is one from Mary Berry the British cooking doyenne.

Wow! What a great idea! I have always dehydrated my end of the season clearance cranberries. I never even thought about juicing them. I didn't get any this year...someone must have bought them all before I got there. I do the same thing if I get there in time. lolol Next year I'll do the juice if someone doesn't beat me to the berries. Much Love

Sarah, you are amazing! How lucky for us that you share your talents and in such a simple way! Because of recently being diagnosed with some health issues I have changed my diet to as all natural as possible and have cut as much sugar from my diet as possible. I have stayed away from store juices because of the sugar, so this is perfect! I can’t thank you enough for taking the time to share this process.... it will bless my life. Thank you, sweet lady 😊

Do people do the same with oranges? Perhaps also with apples? I guarantee you, there’s nothing better than fresh-made apple juice (although my memory comes from apples being juiced for cider so that could make a difference).

I'm a huge fan of cranberry sauce. So last year I bought a lot of fresh cranberries and then made cranberry sauce and then canned it. Some I added walnuts to. Amazing. Now I can have homemade cranberry sauce all year long. Thanks for all you do and may our God continue to bless you and your family.

My grandmother has cranberry bushes. She picked all hers and washed them. Then she tossed them in a blender and made a fine slurry and put them in pot. It saved her from standing there cooking that mixture a long time. Then she canned the juice. She'd use the paste to make cranberry bread without a ton of chunks so it was smooth.

@Lucille Carpenter - I replied to someone else the other night, saying that all the other stores in the area were out except the local Ingles ($1.49 bag) and I was going to go in the morning. Well, I got there and found 16 bags and they had marked them down to 99c each too! I bought all of them. So now I have about 46 bags in the freezer. I use them in my juicing, so if I use half a bag per week, they'll last me the entire year. : )

Great find! Believe it or not, but I found that one of the best strainers is a 2 part honey strainer. The bottom strainer is really fine. Makes the first strain go much faster. Then you can strain through cloth if you want it clearer. I use it for broth too. I may have to get another one for my honey. LOL

One of my favorite jellies for gifting is jalapeño cranberry. Everyone thinks I am gourmet, but I'm really just frugal. Just follow your favorite cranberry jelly recipe measurements, first having simmered 10 jalapeños in the cranberry juice. Most recipes suggest removing seeds and inner membranes, but not enough heat for us that way so I remove stems and just slice in half lengthwise. Of course you strain before canning. Makes a lovely, deceptive pink jelly that packs a punch!

I love making cranberry juice. We get cases of cranberries for under $10 Canadian here ... at discount produce stores. I found if you did a first wire mesh strain... then ran the batch through a cloth it sped up the process. That pulp leftover I used with some sugar and made fruit roll ups. I can't wait to see what you did with your pulp.
